I received my first order of snus yesterday in the mail from getsnus.com. Since I started vaping, I realized that vaping alone was not quite doing it for me so I started with the Camel snus. Camel is very very sweet so I thought I wanted something not quite as sweet and that is why I came here. I ordered General Sterk, Thunder Berry Blend, Thunder Frosted Minis, the peach and strawberry flavored Discreet brand, and the General sampler pack. My free mystery can was General Onyx. So I think I got a pretty good variety of flavors and strengths. I have not received the Discreet flavors yet but I have tried the others. So far, and maybe my tastes need to adjust, I don't care to much for these flavors. As extreme as the Camel is for sweet, I feel that these are extreme just the opposite and very salty. Is this something that I will get use to and is there an acquired taste curve to go through? I am doing a Thunder frosted mini right now and it seems better than the first one. What are some other experiences? Thanks for your input to this.

Luckily, none of this has made me sick yet and it seems that General's wintergreen and their dry mini mint are not bad. Both of those are in the sampler pack. I even got a little bit of sweet with the dry mini mint. I have not tried the General sterk yet either but can't imagine it is a lot different from the other.

Well yes there is something you can do to tone down the salt. You can dip your portion in a little liqourer, I usually use creme de menthe it will change the flavor quite a bit. I only do this on flavors I dont really care for and luckily for me I love most of the flavors. As for the carcingens
most of them in a cig are chems added by the tob companies and from burning the tob.

Seems to me most americans like flavoured snus??
Here in Sweden the only ones i have seen used flavoured snus are girls :p

I think you should try some "real snus" like ettan or grov if you can find it, i think it's soo much better then the mint/flavoured stuff.

I used snus for 8 years but since i started vaping i have now quit, only get snus cravings at evnings/night now.

Hullo, and welcome to the Smokeless Forum!
@Creatv, the "not quite doing it" is what has brought us here to this side of the tracks.

If you ever do try the Discreet you'll polly find them as sweet as the Camel. The salt in the Swedish style of snus does take some getting used to but most folks find they don't really notice it after a few days or a week perhaps.

Of the snus you've listed, the General Sterk and Thunder Berry are both amongst the highest in nicotine content. The rest are all at the "average" level of 8mg/portion. In the General Sampler pack there should be some General Original Portion? Those will give some idea of the more traditional taste of the Swedish snus. The Ettan and Grov that zopp mentions are similar to the General OP, but milder in the bergamot and salt. Very nice indeed.

@zoppztorsk, hehe, do you suggest we are girlie men sirrah! I like my General Wintergreen and General Mini Mints and Mocca Macchiato and LD Black and and and.....! :sneaky:

Harumph!:grr:

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Does seem the American taste runs more to the flavored for sure. That said after a time I've come to really enjoy the stronger taste of some of the sterks, Probe Whiskey in particular. General OP is good as well.

Hee hee.... Guess it has to do with traditions and stuff :p
Here the traditional snus like ettan, general, grov have been around for a long time. Stuff like "white portions" is also pretty new, have only been around for a couple of years.

Personally i think snus should taste snus. On the other hand i never cared for menthol cigg either, but then i don't know anyone smoking menthols here either, only girls and "partysmokers". :p

Flavoured snus is "kind of new" in Sweden too.
We got lot of "new snus brands" now, mostly budget brands.
Price of snus in sweden is now nearly twice than it was only a couple of years ago for "quality snus" like ettan, general, grov etc.

In the US snus is alot cheaper than here :(

Aaarghhhh.... stupid evning snus cravings, i miss the feeling under my lip....... time to load up the pv

lol

I don´t say it´s anything wrong with liking other flavs. Just a different culture.

Another thing i come to think about by reading your post is that you seem to switch flavours.
Over here the common thing is like with cigg that you stick with one brand.

Enjoy your snus!

Well I guess I wouldnt be a very good Sweedish Snusser while Ettan is my my fav I like general, catch, offroad, rodaLacket, thunder, after 30 years of being strapped to one flavor why limit myself to just one now?

Yeh, I spent literally decades smoking one brand of cigarette. Oh the relief of being able to choose from many flavours every day!

:D

Pretty much sticking to one brand/flavor of cigarette seems to be the norm around the world.

With the snus though, and snuff for that matter, it just seems it would be a shame to NOT take advantage of the variety available :D

As far as the salt goes, it's one of the main complaints of people new to Swedish snus and nearly everyone says it's to salty. You get used to it in a few weeks and the salt fads to the background. It does take a bit getting used to the Swedish taste, and it is somewhat of an acquired taste, especially the bergamot. It can take some time for your taste to settle down.

A good rule of thumb for snus is if you don't like it at first, put it in the fridge for a few days and try again. You may find the its not so bad the second time. After half a can you might actually like it. It can also take some time and experimenting to find the flavors you like. After 9 months of using snus I'm turning into one of the traditionalist, but many don't and stay mostly with the flavored snus. If it works for you it's all good.

Funny thing was I loved the taste right from the start, and I couldnt stand chew. I guess Ive always liked salty things though.

In the beginning, I almost threw up a few times from snus, and once I did. It's probably the extreme saltiness - and that's not coming from an American - that did that. But then, our first cigarettes were not all that tasty, either. It's just that we already knew that when we started smoking, while most people outside Sweden never heard much about snus.

Yeah, I think sometimes we tend to forget how bad the smokes taste. I absolutely enjoyed smoking, but in reality can any of us truly say we like the taste or the breath?
