It is one hundred percent individual and some folks who dislike any kind of sweetness really struggle to even find flavor mixes that work.

With that said, the nice thing about sweeteners (most of them) is that you really don't have to steep, usually adding the sweetener, shaking and vaping is all that is required. If you know some juices are too sweet (commercial ones) there is absolutely NO reason not to start without it.

I use some EM sweetened juices in small quantities more for layering and mouthfeel but you can also overdo it, as EM can mute certain flavors.

I use sucralose as my primary sweetener when I use it, and it's usually about 1 drop per 30 ml if I use it at all, although there are certain recipes I always use it in.

I have no clue as to whether certain sweeteners are dangerous to inhale, although I've heard mutterings on the subject, I tend to not worry so much given the amount of sweetener I use. I'm more worried about my diet pepsi habit, frankly and was glad when they switched back to aspartame. LOL.

A recipe doesn't ever really NEED the sweetness. It's totally up to you, but the creator generally will suggest it if it's a big part of the overall flavoring. That being said there are a lot of flavorings out there that are naturally sweet and can create a sweetness without any sweetener being added. Often times flavorings can be used to replace sweetness without changing the overall profile (things like marshmallow)

Marshmallow has ethyl maltol in it, which is a sweetener. It can also mute certain flavors so you will in fact be changing the overall profile QUITE A BIT depending on how much you use, and etc.

I like marshmallows and merengues and whatnot for mouth feel used judiciously but I don't think you can in all fairness use a flavor that has a sweetener already in it and then claim it is not a sweetener. It may in fact ALSO have associated flavor, but it is also most definitely a sweetener.

Anna, is EM really a sweetener? ;)

I know a lot of people say it is, but personally I get zero sweetness from it. It smoothes out a mix, softens the rough edges, helps meld the flavors. But then, most people say vg is sweet, and I don’t get sweet from that either. It’s just not as harsh or bitter as pg.

I guess I'm as much to blame for this thread being locked as anyone: The Flavor Apprentice Flavoring Thread
So where did everyone go? I have some TFA Raisin arriving today and need some ideas. I'm thinking it might go good with some cinnamon danish or graham cracker

I used cinnamon danish and graham cracker to recreate a Jango Fett tobacco flavor. I might get some raisin for myself to add to that.

Just spit-balling from food (vs. vaping) usage... raisins are popular with:
    apples
    pears
    nuts
stone fruits (peach, nectarine, plum, apricot, etc.)
cinnamon, nutmeg, or clove, for accent

    Food types:
Dessert -- cookies, muffins, pastries, pies, cobblers, bread/rice pudding, mince meat, etc.
fruit salad -- (e.g. Waldorf, ambrosia)

If you like thinking outside the box:
One of my favorite uses for raisins, is a side dish, my Mom used to make. She would take dry plain white rice, add a few strands of saffron and a handful of raisins, and simmer. This would cook the rice, infusing the rice with the subtle saffron notes (and beautiful yellow hue), and poach the raisins to juicy tenderness. When it was done cooking, she would remove from the heat, and toss with toasted almond silvers. It was sweet, nutty, aromatic nirvana.

I could see doing an homage to this by using:
Fe Sweet Rice, or VTA Rice base, for the rice element
FA Saffron for the saffron note
TFA Raisin for the raisin element
TFA Toasted Almond for the almond note

Again, all this is just thinking out loud. But, if I were wanting to explore a raisin concentrate, this is where I would start. Of course, the first thing I would do is; make a small tester (or a few), of the Raisin by itself... to get a personal understanding of what the concentrate tastes like to me, and what percentages I may want to try. :)

    :hubba:
OK' I'll admit what I'm trying to do. Every time I try to clone Boba's Bounty I don't even come close but I do end up with some pretty good tasting juice. All I can say now is I'm closer than ever but still way off. It's good though.
Yeah, me too. But it's so off when I'm done, I call it something else like Lando's Loss or Jabba's Junk .

I had an old friend on another forum that loved a rum raisen juice and had been trying to clone it forever. A mixer named Arnne (I think) finally made him a recipe for it and he swore by it. His recipes are out there somewhere

Sometimes threads are locked due to inactivity. You can request from a mod to have it unlocked and brought up to page 1 of diy(do that by posting) or you can start a new thread with the same or similar title.

    :)

easiest way to get attention is to tag a mod like this @classwife and ask her.

She may be along soon, depends on her schedule.......lol
