Just got one of these, browsed around this thread but haven't read 106 pages ...
Like the simple design, but the prospect of having to expose the sticky, gooey workings just to fill it has me doubtful that this design has a useful place as an everyday solution.
Has anyone just drilled thru & tapped some threads for a bottom fill, ala kayfun lite style ?
After using it a short while, I think you'll see after using it that bottom fill is not an issue at all. In fact, it's one less weak point/potential fail or leak in the system. The only tank I've owned that NEVER had a leak or seepage. And inspecting the coil & wick on refills can actually be a plus.

Just remember not to over tighten, and you'll love it. You should be able to stick a thumbnail into the AF slot, apply a tiny bit of pressure, and it'll unscrew from the base without tools. You barely have to tighten it after the tank makes contact with the base.

They are certainly cheap enough to try and drill thru bottom, but don't think I have heard of anyone doing that. I personally don't get sticky or juicy fingers when refilling, if you just hold the base edge and set it down, then refill and screw back in, I don't seem to get anymore messy then any of my other rtas. I think once you get use to it, it won't be to bad....now I agree on the old kfl with screw, some had issues with seepage, but if not it was a very clean refill and I personally liked it and found it extremely easy as long as you had a screwdriver

Still using KFL stuff, 5 in rotation. They don't even leak on an airplane ... mostly.
Tried a couple of the recent MTL iterations but none really delivered satisfactorily.
This one is another 'grass is greener' experiment, if it's superior to the dinosaurs I'm currently using performance wise, I'll drill & tap for a screw & presumably live happily ever after.

It's definitely a slightly different style tank to the kfl as the wicks are in constant contact with juice, but it does promote better wicking this way . In most eyes the kfl is still very hard to beat, as it was and still is one of the best mtl rtas ever created . If you only vape in the 15 watt or lower range, vape juices not over 70vg, and still don't mind the size and parts of the kfl, then perhaps you might not find the dog is better. Although my vaping style hasnt changed all that much since the kfl days, I do now vape slightly higher wattages, around 23 and since have moved to much smaller profiles , so the doggy fits really nice. I wouldn't say the doggy is any better in flavor, but it does wick better, is smaller, easier to build, much less picky about precision of build, and much simpler design.....

Got my Doggy today. My only others are the Galaxies RDTA and YFTK Prime. No dogs ;) among the three. But for me, the YFTK Prime has the best flavor, then the Galaxies and then the Doggy. The Galaxies is easiest to work on. The Doggy does have some quirks but I knew about them before I bought it. I may be more of a Kayfun type of guy but I'm enjoying trying out different RBAs.

I was a KF guy, and nothing else came close. Especially loved the KM3. But trust me, if you liked Kayfun, you'll LOVE this. Kayfun was great in it's time, but this is better in every respect. More solid vape, easier to build, less finicky on wicking, no need to get a blueprint of parts and stock up on orings, no clearing the gurgles, no having a great build one time, and with a tiny variation, the next one just isn't there. This is just better and easier.

So true.

Just built it up w / same 28ga, 1.4-ish as in my KFL's.
This is the 1st one of these 'new' MTL atty's Iv'e tried that pretty much equals the Kayfun right from the get-go.
Viva la France !
er ... China.

Agree completely. I very very briefly used a nautilus x as a beginner - which was a top fill and got gooier hands.

I've found with filling the doggy it's always a dry experience - unless I end up tweaking my wicking ;)

Also like that I can check wick/coil status.

@smoked25years i can’t get flavor even CLOSE to the doggy using the galaxies rdta. Tried tons of builds and airflow options, and I just can’t get it there at all.

I want a rda to test flavors on, but nothing compares to the airflow and flavor of the doggy. So my testing is just super slow hahaha

My experience is the exact opposite --haha! Probably different coils and vaping styles. I need to run the same coil on the Doggy at a bit higher wattage to get closer but it doesn't match the Galaxies. The Kayfun is so good that I have a difficult time putting it down--haha!

What's everyone using in their doggies? Today I'm trying 28g kanthal, 7 wraps at 2.5mm. coming on at 1 ohm. Great flavor!
That's the wire and build Iv'e been using for just about a year. PERFECT VAPE!!!

I used 28g K for many years and up to last year used it a little, but I have now totally switched to 26g in all my rtas. In fact every rta I have uses the same exact coil, 2.38mm, 6 wraps, about .7 ohms. I think one reason I prefer it is because of my use for rayon and that it's just a bit more rigid when threading . Threading rayon on a slightly spaced 28g coil is just a bit wobbly. Also the 26g coil produces a bit more TH imo.

Good for comparison. :thumb: The wattage that you guys use would also be helpful. I prefer not to go any higher than 12W. Others like more power and more air flow. I suspect some that are using thicker wire are running much higher wattage.
I'm currently at 12w on my Dog.
