I kinda think the doggy is like the shoemaker's story. Whatever you put in there, there are little puppies running around and doing stuff to the coil and wicking and placement to just make it work. Same with chain vaping, the puppies pull out little fans and mutter, "You can't be having a dry hit with this tank."

I do like plenty of other tanks too but the doggy is unbeatable for a reliable magic vape. LOL, just don't get lazy you do have to coil it you can't leave ALL the work to the puppies.

This morning, I swapped out the stock drip tip for a Nautilus 2 tip and messed around with height of the coil and it is improving. I get tons of flavor but it's just not flavor that is tuned to my tastes yet. It seems more like a restricted DL vape that I'm tuning to MTL. In that respect, I think it is similar to the Galaxies RDTA and different from the Kayfun.

What's everyone using in their doggies? Today I'm trying 28g kanthal, 7 wraps at 2.5mm. coming on at 1 ohm. Great flavor!

I'd always used 2.5mm, but in the doggy, get a more intense vape at 2.0. Also used to use 8 or more wraps, but dropping down to 7 improved the vape as well.

28ga 316SS
2.0 id
7 wraps, slightly spaced
approx. 0.60a
About 80% of the coil above the heads of the screw
8.5W

Knew you'd love it!

It does seem I vape a bit higher wattages here then most do in their dogs . I vape between 20 to 23 watts which might be another reason the 26g works a bit better for me....I also have tried SS wire a few times in the past couple years and there's something about it I don't like quite as much as kanthal and because I run just power mode, I'm not to bothered.
Good for comparison. :thumb: The wattage that you guys use would also be helpful. I prefer not to go any higher than 12W. Others like more power and more air flow. I suspect some that are using thicker wire are running much higher wattage.

Doggy is growing on me and the second refill went smoothly.

I took the chance to make some quick comparisons to the Galaxies RDTA and YFTK Prime. The Doggy's chimney has a larger diameter than the chimney on both the Galaxies and Prime. The bell is larger on the Galaxies but the raised portion forms a second smaller bell directly above the coil. The Prime has a longer chimney. These differences may account for some of the differences in the way they vape. I had coils in all 3 so I didn't have a chance to measure the air flow openings under the coil but that is important and I look forward to comparing them later. The Galaxies has 2 additional air flow openings on the sides that can be adjusted for those who like more air flow. They can also be closed off so that theres only a single air flow opening under the coil.

The chimney on the Doggy appears to be plated whereas the Prime and Galaxies appear to be bare steel (plated versions of both are also available though). The deck on the Galaxies is gold plated. I prefer bare steel for several reasons. Some like plating. The glass on the YFTK-made Prime "feels" thin and cheap compared to the glass on the Galaxies. I assume the German-made Prime has better glass but I've never seen an authentic Prime. The tank on the Doggy is plastic. It does not have the same feeling of quality as glass. But for plastic, it seems good. Looks good to my eye also. The plastic tank and uninspired air flow control make it seem cheap but the deck section of the Doggy seems well constructed.

At $11, I don't think the Doggy is a crazy good deal compared to the Prime for $18. That's especially true if the plastic threading on the Doggy tank doesn't last. Seems like a lot of folks are buying multiples for this reason and that adds up. Of course, if you drop your glass tanks then they won't last either! Haha! There's a lot more to the Prime and YFTK did a super job with all the fine machining--All for only $7 more than the Doggy. On the other hand, the simplicity of the Doggy is something that some prefer. At full retail price of $30 for the Galaxies, the $11 Doggy seems like a good deal. But at the sale price of $16 shipped, you're getting a lot more with the Galaxies for only $5 more. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. All 3 are capable of producing good flavor.

With all the crazy sales, the best deal changes every day. I've seen most of the MTL RTAs go on sale for around $15-16... like the Berserker, Berserker Mini, Galaxies, Gotank 2, Galaxies RDTA. I recently saw the Nautilus 2 for $8.50!

Nice work. Makes me a little interested in trying the Galaxies.

A couple of things, though. Judging by the way most here seem to have pretty large vape budgets, I doubt anyone will make a decision based on $11-$30 in cost. I'd like to hear your impressions on how they vape- throat hit, flavor, etc.

I was a Kayfun guy, (KM3 & Lite+V2) but the Prime just failed big time for me. Not only was it sort of old school over-engineered, with many parts & orings, it just had some kind of turbulence that made the vape sort of "diluted" with air, that I couldn't get rid of with any build. Same effect I got from Ares. Also, I'm not sure about a lot of folks buying multiple doggies due to threading. I might've seen one or 2 on this thread. I've been using the same one for almost a year, and never had a thread issue yet. I did buy a 5 pack of replacement tanks for $5 just in case, but haven't needed one.

Do let us know what you think of the vapes!

I've been vaping for 6 months and have only used RBAs recently. I've used very few compared to many of the regulars. Only used those three.

I view the Prime as primarily MTL. The tiny chamber and small diameter chimney really concentrate the vapor and gives a good throat hit when tootle puffing. And that is how I vape. On the other hand, it won't perform as well for the same reasons if you open up the airflow.

I view the Doggy and Galaxies RDTA as restricted DTL that can be reduced to MTL. I'm not saying they can't be used MTL. I just think they both really shine best on the looser end of the MTL spectrum or restricted DTL. There are a lot of similarities in the construction. There are also differences. Both are fairly short and you can see the coils if you remove the drip tips. I think the vape can be similar on both. You have many more options for airflow with the Galaxies.... many more ways to fine tune to perfection... or to mess everything up--haha!

So for me, the Prime is the best performer for my MTL vaping style but I also like the Doggy and Galaxies. For those who want a looser MTL or restricted DTL, I would not recommend the Prime at all. I think the Doggy and Galaxies are centered around that middle mark. Build quality might also be a factor. The Doggy "feels" cheap with the plastic tank and underengineered airflow control. The Galaxies has a smaller 2ml capacity compared to the 3.5ml Doggy and that may be a factor for some. It is intended to be used on a squonker. I vape 2ml a day so for me it is sufficient without BF.

I couldn't direct lung my Dog at all. Wide open is a smooth MTL on mine.

Don't own a galaxy but do own an authentic prime and I feel either tank gives me a similiar vape. I use the prime on the 4th opening (I believe it's 1.6 or 1.8) and find it fairly equal to the doggy wide open. Yes if you like the prime at its tightest, I would say it's a better or smoother vape then closing the cheapy af ring on the dog to achieve a similiar vape because I believe the dog doesn't shine with af closed all the way....as for the doggy being a good deal to buy for 11 bucks, he'll yes imo...I guess it just depends on what your use to s po ending and in my case, 11 bucks is the cheapest tank I ever bought in my life. The doggy is the only clone I own (except a darvw clone that was given to me to try, thanks brew!, but since have bought 2 authentic darvws) as all my other 15 rta's are well over 100 bucks each and some of my mods well over 300 each, so at least for me, the dog is worth 11 bucks easy

I should mention that I bought the Doggy based on the recommendation that I would get a true MTL vape from it with the airflow closed off most of the way. But I agree with you that it doesn't shine with the af closed off. It does shine once you start opening it up.

I also agree with you that it's worth the $11. I also feel that I've gotten my moneys worth from the others.

Are you using the tighter airflow sxk doggy (1.8mm airflow hole diameter) or the looser sjmy (2.3mm) doggy?

Everyone is different and likes different things - that's what makes vaping so awesome

I agree and the variety available is really enjoyable. I bought the SXK Doggy. I had been advised that it works really well with the airflow closed off 99%.

To me, the doggy really shines when the airflow hole is 99% closed. It’s super tight, yet super smooth.

Some say that magic happens in the last 2% ;)

you need to understand 98% of the Doggy AFC is just "fully open", and it is the last 2% where all the magic occurs. It's actually tighter than a Beserker.

I think it performs best when the airflow is opened up for what I would call a loose MTL.
