I just started doing some DIY and I really like it. Using the breaktru calculator makes it super easy. The only problem I'm encountering though is after a few washes the syringe numbers are melting off or washing off I guess is the right way to say it.

Anyone know where I can get some syringes that the numbers won't melt off? I'm just running hot water through them, no soap or anything like that.

Also, someone here said to coat the numbers with a clear fingernail poilish. I tried that, it smudged all the numbers on the one I tried so I didn't try any of the others.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Try getting some clear glossy spray paint. Lay your syringes out, number side up and give them several light mists of clear spray paint, letting each coat dry in between. IME, one thick coat smudges the markings like nail polish will. The trick is to seal the numbers on without allowing the solvents in the spray paint or nail polish time to dissolve the markings on the syringe.

I've had success with clear nail polish, but what I was using was a specialty product that's used to quick dry nail polish (Seche Vite). It goes on in a thick coat and dries super fast, which seems to prevent it from smudging. I did smudge a syringe one time when I painted over the numbers with a heavy stroke because I tried to go back over an area that wasn't coated well.

I believe other people have used tape, but I haven't tried that. I figured the juice would eventually dissolve the sticky of the tape and make a mess of it, but I don't know if that would actually happen.

Thanks for this, but really I don't think I want to try and coat any more of them. I've got a number of like graduated cylinders with the numbers raised in plastic type molding. I've search but cant find the same thing in a syringe. This is really driving me nuts lol.

Get yourself some clear wide packing tape and put it over the numbers. It wont wash off or come loose. Its the easiest and simplest way to keep the digits on your syringes.

Hmmm never thought of that. I will give it a shot. We've got some I can "liberate" from the office here lol. Just kidding, doubt my employer would care about a few inches of tape.

I just ordered 20 1ml syringes from ebay. $2.27 but coming from canada, might take a while but good deal I think

Solution: buy more syringes lol. I bought 100 3ml syringes off Amazon August '10 for $11.50. I've gone through maybe 10-20 at most and usually that's because the plunger starts to grab the sides. I think this has something to do with the oil flavors, but nonetheless it's nice to have a new one every so often. It may also have to do with the quality of the syringes you have...but I've been 100% DIY liquid since before I ordered the box and haven't had many issues with them.

I suspect you were using the cheap B-D syringes with numbers that look to have been applied with some sort of inkjet printer. Look for syringes that have embossed or etched numbers, which last much longer. They aren't difficult to find, in fact the B-D syringes are the exception and not the rule, even if they are super common.

Wow thanks. These don't melt or wash off? Great prices.

I honestly don't know. The numbers and markings are impressed into the plastic. The paint might still wash off, but the impressions wouldn't. And I can only say for sure that the 20 ml is like this. That's the only size I ordered. I was going to make tanks with them, but I actually prefer my tanks to not have markings, so I haven't used them for anything yet.

I have been using the same 8 syringes for about a year and a half and the numbers are sill just as clear as the day I bought them. The sleeve fits over the numbers so they are never subjected to the DIY components. I get them for about $.35 @ at my local pharmacist(not a big chain) They are the 3 ml/cc size. No fuss no muss. They are a Luer-Lok hub.....latex free........

Oh, there is a brand that I have a few of that have the numbers embossed into the barrel. They are monoject brand. I got the here: Horse Healthcare: Monoject Syringes

I know at least the 20 ml ones are embossed, not sure about other volumes.

Ah that explains it for the syringes I have. They are Monoject 3ml and have text that can't be scratched off with my fingernail, unlike the large syringe I have for refilling my tank.
