Hi there,

I am a newbie DIY mixer so far thanks to help from many of you I am doing good...

Just a quick question though regarding syringes....

The markings on the outside of my syringes have started to wear out each time I rinse my syringes out with hot water,is this normal?

Is it recommended to wash syringes out using hot water?

Dont get me wrong I have only mixed like 40ml of liquid altogether so its not like they have been overly used.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Same thing has happened to me with one I was using the most since I started mixing a few weeks ago. Only look a week or two to wear off completely. So this syringe I only use for cleaning and refilling ego and 510-t tanks, where accurate measurements are not necessary. For measuring VG, I cracked open a new one and only use it for measuring VG. Since this new one isn't being man-handled all the time for cleaning and refilling, it is holding up much better, and will probably keep its markings for quite a while.

I bet the markings are wearing off from handling and any juice that has gotten on it, not from water itself. To make your markigs permanent so that if they do wear off, you're still good to go, you could score each marking with a razor blade.

The markings on syringes will indeed wear with use. You can extend the life of your syringes by coating the markings with clear nail polish.

thanks a million like always you guys never fail to deliver

cheers indeedy

p.s. i wondered if it was the hot water that was causing the marking from rubbing off?

I had the same problem. The last time I bought my syringes at a pharmacy I asked for a 3 ml and they gave me an odd looking syringe. I thinks it's called a safety syringe or needle guard syringe (it has a Luer Lok tip). You'll know it when you see it. It looks like a syringe within a clear barrel. When I first got these I didn't notice the difference because they were in a sealed pouch and was going to take them back when I notice the difference but decide it would cost more in gas than it was worth so I decided to try them. Am I ever glad I did. The outside barrel protects all the markings from rubbing off! They cost 35 cents a piece. And now I will only get that type. I was going through a ton of the others due to losing the markings. I have had the same three syringes for 2 months of DIYing now.
Give them a try they are the best

Cannot seem to add pictures? the brand name of the syringe is BD.

My 1mL syringes seem to lose their markings from handling, especially from cleaning. I just tossed one today... the 0-0.3mL markings were still readable, the 0.8-1.0 markings were there, the others were rubbed out. I think I'll just order a box of 100... anyone need 25 gauge x 1/2" needles?

On the other hand, my BD 5mL syringe is 6 months old and the markings look like new. I use this one to draw PG and VG for the most part, and some liquid usually gets on the barrel of the syringe.

Where do you buy your 1ml (cc) syringes? I've tried at the pharmacy but to no avail, I need them w/o the needle's.
