Taifun GT Discusion!

There really isn't much down there, I would think and good washing and boiling would clean it out pretty good.
Thanks for the information. So there is really no threading on it, as I would expect from an upper class (and price) rba. In that way the cheap fogger seems to be quite ahead of the GT and easier to service. ;);) I will try again with just flushing with hot water, but I think boiling could damage the 2 silicone-insulator-discs. I really appricate your work here, since this is the very first time I have seen an opened GT - Base. :):):) Thank you very much.

If a coil is touching a post but not a side wall or base I can't see much wrong. The wire is attached to the post, after all, so in this sense it is always touching the post. It would change resistance and could cause inconsistency with performance, but when it touches something other than the post that is when shorts occur.

If you can not provide a picture, you might explain to us how you are building your setup. Do you wind your wire around what size drill bit, paperclip, your thumb???? etc

thanks for clearing that up. yeah the coils are touching the post but not the wall. I did not use any tools to coil, just hold the silica and wrap the coil around it. should the coil be between the post of above the screws?

I don't think it's a flaw at all, it's a much more secure positive and negative connections than the flimsy fogger connections. Both delrin in the fake and silicone in the authentic can withstand the temps of boiling.

You could try soaking in a hydrogen peroxide and baking soda solution and then rinsing well with hot water.

So, I've heard it said a few times that the Taifun GT is a Kayfun clone.

Though I can see some similarities, I struggle with this label. Perhaps it's the meaning of clone versus replica? I mean, yes we have some similar parts, but the delivery system is entirely different. The Taifun has constant wicking, so to speak, versus the Kayfun having wicking dependent on draw. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I can see some differences in the two attys.

To me, a clone is the same design with a different label. This doesn't foot the bill with the Taifun/Kayfun.

Thoughts?

The Taifun isn't a clone/copy/other, it's a completely different concept and design. Not to mention patented in the UK.

But the Taifun is still dependent on draw for wicking, just less so than the Kayfun style attys.

See that was my thoughts as well, minus the wicking concept. I seen a local retailer calling the GT the "Kayfun clone", and I'm all "what the heck is this person talking about". May have to pay a visit to set the record straight. ;)

Yeah, I can't see it either. The Taifun GT is a completely different design from the Kayfun.

I thought I would try the SS section since it's been shelved since I bought it with the package. Btw, that Gambit is amazing on micro/cotton

hows it wicking with cotton

good... with cotton balls however.... It's a good idea to make the ends of the wick (sitting in the side-slits of the atomizer-chamber) thicker than the middle. E.g. by splitting the ends of the wick on each side and inserting a piece of cotton. I found this to work better than having a flavour-wick on top (propensity to overwick/gurgle).
Or make a bigger diameter coil... but i like to stick with a true micro-range, thus the wick with thicker ends on each side.

Exactly as stated above, though I keep my cotton wick pretty consistent in size all the way through. Though, as mentioned, it's highly important to have the chamber holes plugged with your desired wick. I tried the flavor wick setup too, and found that to be flood prone.

Nowhere
Lemme weigh in on two things

Not a Kayfun clone and both have had previous versions prior to their current iterations. Still have both, they are different and vape different.

And you can boil pretty much every major part besides the combo tank. I got the the idea because it's in the their pdf with tips & tricks. I pull the rings, screws and insulators before I do. Mine has seen daily use for 6 months and has shown no ill affects that weren't inflicted by me.

nope, I did order from fasttech thoughbut I cancelled it and bought it locally. Fasttech is selling the version without the R on the box and it seems the material is not SS but chrome plated brass.. I am glad that I cancel the order from FT.

The only portion of the FT clone that is plates brass is the inner deck.

Have you checked the inner deck on the version you got?

Is the version you got available to purchase online anywhere?

Here is my "easy" approach to setting up the Taifun for no flood/perfect wicking...(at least for me).

Coil is 29g Kanthal with a 2mm ID. I used 12 strand Hemp Cord and Hemp Fiber both Uber Clean (courtesy of Bapgood).

First step is to cut a 50mm length of Hemp Cord and twist it through the coil:

Second step is to fold back each of the legs just to the edge of the coil:

Third step is to take a pinch of 5mm length of Hemp Fiber twist down to ~1mm and fold into an upside down "U" shape and place over the folded hemp cord on the inside of the slots and then tamp lightly just to fit. The wick is juiced here to help with placement.

With the top on you have two small loops extending at 2-3MM.

Same set-up could work with Cotton, just haven't tried it yet. If you feel wicking is slow, place a finger over the airflow hole and suck. I find that this can create some movement in the wick fiber and increase flow rates. If you still feel flow is a bit slow, cut about 6 strands off of the tail that folds over back into the atty.

yes, I have checked all the parts and all of the metal parts are made from SS. I also did a shorting check using my Fluke 23 multimeter. I don't know any other place online is selling this version.
