Bapgood, how did you manage to disassemble the base? Is there a certain way? I still haven't figured out how to do this...

The base is pressed together. So I pull out the 510 screw/spring/oring/insulator and get a punch that fits fairly tight in the hole and then using one or two swift and solid whacks with a hammer and it pops out. I found using a ss tank is the easiest way to support the large base while hammering.

I just took mine apart to figure out why it was shorting out. I used too small of a punch and messed up the center screw threads. I was able to get it fixed but had to go to a bigger screw. Don't do what I did. Listen to bapgood.

Bapgood, Blackl1sted, thank you so much for the useful info!

The reason I want to disassemble the base is to clean it, from the inside. Is it worth the hassle? How dirty or clean were yours?

What bugs me the most is these two pics I found online:

Pretty dirty imo and a potential health hazard if there are any residual shavings from machining or other particles that get (or have already got) in the airflow pathway...

Hope I don't sound overly paranoid! :)

Mine wasn't that dirty but I've only had it for a couple months. What I do to clean mine is to take a syringe and push water through the outside airhole to flush it out and then take my air compressor and blow it out. I only found minute wetness when I took mine apart. Here are a couple pics of what mine looked like when i opened it. I opened it up because it was hard shorting. I have some pics of what I did to (hopefully) fix the shorting problem. I hope it wasn't because it was wet inside. These pics are of where it was shorting out.

@ bapgood, my vape mail from SmokerStore is arriving today.
I'm going to be itching to start a thread on it but there may be just you and I receiving one. I haven't been this exited about vape mail since ordering my first Vmax. LOL

Lucky!!!! I got mine from a friend in Poland and shipping is not moving very fast. Hopefully I will get mine next week sometime.

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1527301 arrived yesterday, I was worried initially because I wanted the newer one that was getting all the good reviews but on 'ships in 10 business days' vs this one 'ships next day'. Boy am I glad I bit the bullet, the one I got looks great! The threading and knurling are nice, the chimney wall locks in perfectly, it does not spin when screwing in the tank, the insulator around the 510 pin is there, the airtube was a cinch to remove. The only complaint is that it was pretty nasty with machine oil and it's impractical to break down the deck to fully clean. I still gave it a soak yesterday and brushed everything down, still a trace of machine oil detected on the draw oh well. Built a .9 ohm microcoil with cotton wick, very nice. It's tighter then my Aqua without an airtube, close to how I had my KFL+ set to not whistle badly. The vapor is warm and mucho flavor. Again so far very very pleased!

Hello there! New to the tread. Just got my taifun gt clone from fasttech and i must say I am pretty impressed. I've got a authentic kfl lite and the performance of both is pretty close.
My only concern is that i think the base is chrome plated brass. What are your thoughts on this?

As far as I know only the very early FT Taifun GT's had a brass deck pressed into the base but that supposedly changed quite fast.
Easy to determine, brass is soft, ss is hard, scratch on it with the corner of a razor blade. If the blade wants to dig in it's brass.
Pick a spot that doesn't matter
