Just got a hcigar Taifun yesterday and have tried about 5 builds on it with nothing but horrible results! Just did my ol' normal Micro Coil and cotton. Tried adding extra cotton but it just keeps flooding! Also every build I have tried there has been 0 airflow.....like sucking a golf ball through a garden hose...lol Is mesh the way to go in these? Seen a lotta pics with mesh builds. Any tips or anything guys? Lol I know i'm not a noob but i'm feeling like one right now! lol

Also, as far as your build, you may wanna give the PBusardo build a whirl, it is what I am using with great success. Your lack of air flow may also be the culprit behind your failed build, so after you fix it, if your build is still not working out, try the ss mesh and silica top wick. :)

I'm already laughing my ... off imagining your video cursing the shiz out of it!

Pull the center tube out. Make sure the plastic insulator/holder tube isn't shoved all the way down or causing some other blockage (as others mentioned). I just pulled all that crap out entirely. But no airlow will def. just pull liquid into the chamber - hence your flooding. I make my coils with 2mm id., thick cotton wick, trimmed to just the outer edge of the chamber and fluff them up.

............

I have been using a non micro coil in mine.
Wrapped around .9ohm.
Coil is about 2mm above the airhole.
I run cotton through like usual.
The one thing I do to stop flooding is add a piece of cotton to each side of the wick.
It does not go through the coil.
Just enough to fill some space in the wick channels.
What I do it take the cut off ends of my main wick.
Position the cut side nearest the coil, making sure not to cover the coil with each piece.
Drip a couple drops of eliquid onto the "extra" pieces and mold them into the main wick....again, making sure not to cover the coil with them.
Screw on the chimney cap, but be careful not to screw it on TOO tight, as the oring will deform at the wick channels.
If the oring deforms at the wick channels, it will most likely flood the chamber.
Cut the excess wick off, leaving a couple MM sticking out of the chimney.
You have to be careful doing this. Use really sharp scissors.
If you disturb your "extra" wick pieces, they will pull out of place and cause flooding.
Make sure the wick doesn't stick out too far of the chimney. If the wick gets tugged on while screwing onto the tank, the extra wicks can get moved around as well.
After using this method I have not had a single dry hit or gurgle for over 100ml of juice vaped through my GT.

Thanks guys! I just pulled the stem and insulator and now it works perfect! Thanks for the help!

Awesome. Glad you got it working good.
My GT is slowly beating my kayfuns, russians and squapes for a first place slot in my rotation.
I just ordered 2 more GTs from focalecig, along with another astro.
They are a great fit together.
U still have that astro Twisted?
Chuck it on there if you do....well maybe not. If I had a flip I would most likely have my GT on there too. Lol

Just dropping by to say Hi! I've been using the HCigar Taifun GT clone now for three weeks. Been using Kayfun's for last six months prior. I can't get the Taifun out of my hand now. The combination of flavor, vapor and draw just works for me. I think I actually get slightly better flavor from the Kayfun, but better draw and vapor from the Taifun. Believe me, I'm happy with either, but I'm just so fond of this Taifun that I ordered two more from Germany, the dripper and nano tank from England, and I should be set for full and backup rotation on the Taifun's.

I tried the Taifun because I heard many similar statements about it compared with the Kayfun by many vapors whose opinions I trust. Then the KF 3.1 was discontinued and I had no way to get a backup. I have the KFL+, but it's not the same to me. I like the 3.1, and while this was all going on, the missus decides she wants to use RTA's. So, with the KF 4.0 coming out later this Spring, I had no choice but to try the Taifun, and I'm glad I did. I use a cotton micro coil build, similar to the kayfun, and I'm loving it. Vapor similar to an RBA, I use the Origin Dripper primarily, but we'll see how the Taifun Dripper works soon. Anyway, just saying hi, and I'm going to follow this thread. I couldn't make it through the whole thread. I tried 3 times and I got to about page 20, so just jumpin' in here. Look forward to participating with ya'll in the near future. Power up and Vape On!

Got my Taifun coiled up last night and was instantly sold on it. I'd already pulled the air tube out which gave me a fairly airy draw which I prefer. Flavor and vapor production were spot on.

Fast forward to today and I got a gurgle. Based on what I'd read I knew what was coming so I flipped it upside down and unscrewed the base. Wick looked fine (3 strands of 2mm silica) but I was still somewhat surprised because the juice channels were filled with wick but whatever .. I went on happily vaping away. I get home tonight and everything is right with the world when I get another gurgle. I didn't have time to mess with it so I just swapped in another RBA and went about my business.

I finish what I was doing at the time and was planning to lay a strip of Ekowool over my wick. I turn it upside down and unscrew the tank section. That was when I had my ... moment. The ends of my wick were totally gone. Nothing sticking out at all. Now I realize I'm getting old and my memory isn't all that anymore but how the heck did 3x 2mm silica wicks lose 2-3mm off of their ends? I'm not talking about mostly gone or even just a little shorter but gone as in like they were never there.

I double checked the wicks last night, they were longish but they weren't long enough to get caught in the threads when I screwed the tank back on so I'm stumped. My wicks have shortened and I cannot vape. This makes me a very confused and unhappy old man.

Anyone else have something like this happen to them or am I special in a not so good way?

I use one piece of 3mm silica passing through the coil and out the slots with a second short piece of 3mm silica piggybacked on the main wick inside the coil but not sticking out the holes, with great success BTW.
I grab into the ends of the main wick before I cut off the excess and untwist it. I leave about 2mm sticking out of the chamber.

Quick OT question: how does focalecig compare to fasttech regarding shipping times
and customer service?

So far, very happy with focal.
Shortly before xmas I ordered a kayfun clone from them.
It arrived on xmas eve.
Excited to play with my early xmas present, I cleaned it and dryed all the parts.
Upon assembly I broke the center pin.
Very unlike me to hamfist something.
I went to the focal website to contact them about getting a spare pin.
Keep in mind this is xmas eve around 6pm.
Send an email explaining what happened and asked about obtaining spares.
Within a few minutes, I recieved a reply from Doris.
She was great. Appologized profusely about the issue and asked if I could send pictures of the broken part.
Sent pic.
A few minutes later got a response.
She said she was calling the supplier and would get back to me shortly.
Within 10 minutes I had another reply from her saying the parts were going to be sent out and I would have tracking shortly.
In less than 10 minutes I got tracking.
The parts arrived in under 6 days!
Not only did she send me a replacement center pin, she sent 2!
Also sent a kanger ce3 [ I think] as a gift for the issues.
I was blown away at the responsiveness of them. Very happy.
Funny thing......I was waiting on orders of kayfuns from FT and Vapor Break before I had even placed my order with focal.
Not only did focal come through first, the replacement parts from them came and I had my broken kayfun fixed and vaping before either of my 2 other orders had shown up. Both of which were placed weeks before my initial focal order.

I have seen the chimney cap unscrew before meaning there's been movement in the chimney walls or from the top cap/tube. This could easily pull the ends out. Can't say it's happened to me yet, but I can see how it could happen. Just make sure everything is nice and finger tight everywhere, and stop using that dissolving silica wick...:p

Right. It does/can happen. The topcap airtube (oring) can stick in the top of the chimney and cause the chimney to spin when screwing on the tank.

I rolled up a piece of 600 grit sand paper and ran it through the top of the chimney hole, then used a little metal polish (on a qtip) to try and smooth it out. Then make sure to put a little eliquid on the topcap airtube o-ring when putting it all back together.

Worked for me. Hasn't happened since. Good thing to know when using a stainless tank and can't see in...still worries me a little.
Glad I saw it happen the first time building with the clear tank on.

I've had the same thing happen to me. I think it's caused by the suction from inhaling. I just make my wicks slightly longer to prevent it. I also switched to using mesh.

Dang, just got a message when I logged onto focal saying the Taifun GT was oversold during the holidays.
Now it is on back order. I'm gonna send them an email and find out how long the wait will be.
The message said they will split the order if I want. I mean, if it is a week or 2, I don't mind. Any longer and I'll be splitting my order into 2 shipments.
