Who on this thread has a real Taifun? Just curious.

I do. Purchased it a last week from an e-store in state. So far I really like it but I also have nothing to compare it to either as it was the only RBA I had until last night when I received a Russian I ordered. I'd prefer to buy originals for a lot of reasons but the primary one would be to support the innovators. Truth is if you don't support them sooner or later they move on to something else and we all lose.

I'd like to say that I'll never buy a clone but that'd be a lie because as much as I'd like to and as diligently as I search sometimes you just cannot find/buy the original. I'm really somewhat surprised that they're produced in such small quantities and that none of them are being produced in quantities that'd allow more people to buy them.

If the original costs $175 and can't be found but you can buy a functionaly identical clone for $30 and they're easily obtained then you have a problem for the developers. Why they haven't hooked up with turnkey contract manufacturers, increased their production and driven the price doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Hey Guys,

So I just received my new 'authentic' Taifun GT. While I have no doubts about it's authenticity (visually/aesthetically perfect, no smell of machine oil, registered trademark), I do have doubts about the positive/negative deck screws. One of them looks like it belongs, and the other one looks like it's totally different (well it is!!). They're both Philips head screws, but one seems to be much 'cheaper' looking than the other...I am having trouble uploading pics, so you're just gonna have to take my word for it...

Am I missing something (do these things sometimes come with different looking positive/negative screws?), or did the seller replace one of the screws with a different one? I mean it should not matter, but for $175 I was kinda expecting this thing to be perfect. And I have a hard time believing that Taifun would put 2 different looking screws in an authentic atty....

From looking at Google images...it looks like they are different screws. One has a cross through the cross kind of?

I'm guessing its for telling the positive and negative posts apart.

You are absolutely right!! Guess I should've looked at some google images before posting!! Haha....so it DOES appear that the authentic version has TWO diff. Type screws (one Philips and one "Posidrive"); one for the positive and one for the negative....interesting and good to know!!

I am very excited to do a build on this! I think I will start by trying cotton + microcoil....

Sounds like an original 'cause that describes it's screw heads. Positive and negative at a glance.
I haven't seen a clone with two differently marked screw heads.
Removing both the positive screw and the 510 screw at the same time is to be avoided as the brass disc inside the base will turn making re-installing the positive screw a little tricky but still doable.

Yep....that' exactly what I found out upon doing some more research! Thanks for the info though!! I will look out for the 510/positive screw removal....

Since I asked the question I see it only fair to say that I own an original. Not a fan of clones. I also need to ask where can I buy a replacement frosted tank. Damn Baja Blast left me with a few tiny cracks. I don't know how you guys are setting your coil and wicks up but mine hits like a dripper. Tons of vapor and flavor. No leaks or gurgles. 8 wraps 26g micro @ .8ohm and organic cotton firing at 16.5 watts. Total juice ..... but well worth it.

I get my stuff from White Fog in England, or SmokerStore in Germany. This is authentic gear. Clone stuff, just google... there's plenty. Good luck! By the way, my two authentic originals did arrive today. 5 minutes later, I'm vaping 1.5 ohms, 1/16" micro coil at 12 Watts, wicked with cotton. Very nice. Forgot to clean :p. Still pretty good. Nothing nasty, lucky me....All the best!

So cotton wicking is working well for you? I've used 3x 2mm silica and 2x 3mm silica both right at 1.7 ohms. They're pretty comparable with the 2mm having the edge. This weekend, when I have some cold beer and spare time, I'm going to try a mesh wick and if I can ever get the hot spots worked out of it I'll report back on how it compared.

There is a learning curve with cotton. But when you get it right it's ridiculous. Amazing flavor and vapor. And it's cheaper, too.

Yes, cotton. I've tried silica, mesh and cotton and combos of all three. I definitely like the cotton the best. Wicks perfectly, juicy flavor. Me likee!

I started out with 2x3mm and 3x2mm silica, I then switched to micros and cotton in both my genuine and fake taifun and, I must say the flavor is even better than a kayfun cotton setup :)

I have to say that I like the flavor slightly better on the Kayfun. However, the combination of flavor, vapor, TH and draw is just a wee bit better on the Taifun GT to me. I'm actually super happy with either and do change. Not a week goes by that I don't use both, and I enjoy their vape's immensely. I can't give up either at this point. Vaping Nirvana! I spent my first year vaping (excluding failed attempts in 2009 and 2011) with roughly six months of clearos and six months of carto tanks. Carto tanks are to clearos what RTA's are to carto tanks. It just keeps getting better. I've used more than 30 different APV's and mechs, and easily more than 50 different toppers. 2014 is the year of the coil for me and I'm loving it. Just keeps getting better. I try a lot of different coils, and starting rebuilding them on Kanger's in June 2013. What's worked best for me in every application is cotton. Love cotton. Wet juicy pillowy clouds of wet vapor. Yummy! My two cents.

Ok, I'll give cotton a try then. I assume you guys are building your coils and then threading the cotton through it. Is that correct? Any tips you guys would care to share or any links that I could hit up to help me along the way?

I've never used cotton in anything. Actually I've only been using rebuildables for less than a week so if you get right down to it I don't know much about anything and my coils/wicks are pretty awful. I've yet to build one that's better than what I can get out of an IBTanked with a Smok 2.0 ohm carto.

I do enjoy learning though and I figure if I keep at it I'll develop enough skill that I'll be able to "tune" my vape just the way I want it. I could just be very, very wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened.
