PTFD or Mesh is used in the feeder holes that are above the wick tails on your coil. I would imagine that mesh is less prone to chemical reactions/ leaching than the PTFD. Its similar to poly/pmma/ or other plastics so it might be prone to reactions to some flavours? Just speculation of course, I dont know the molecular similarities/ differences of these plastics so dont quote me.

I think SS especially the better mesh that is 316 and higher is surgical grade so less prone to chemical reactions.

just to say, PTFE is probably more resistant to corrosion/chemical attack than SS!!!

Just what I figured based on ss and titanium being used in implants. Im sure there are plastics used in surgical implants too.

Ive seen the metal that comes out of peoples bodies. Ive seen gold, SS and titanium parts. All supposed to be "stainless" but damn if they dont look pretty tarnished when they get taken out. I wont even go in to the details of how silicone looks like...... But as gross as these bits and bobs look like when removed, nothing is as ugly as cancerous tissue or infected flesh.

Only thing that worries me is its level of temperature stability, such as subjected to extreme temps that some vapors use, what is its melting point , so thought Id look it up.

I found this in wikipedia. I know, its wikipedia and we cant believe everything there. Im just more comfortable with the use of SS mesh.

"The pyrolysis of PTFE is detectable at 200 °C (392 °F)" It is basically Teflon and we all have heard of what happens to Teflon when burned. Not that we average vapers will ever subject our atties to temps above 392 degrees F. :)

Please dont take this "pondering" as trying to come off as a know it all, Ive only copied and pasted what I found on the internet. Im not an expert at anything. :)

Not saying SS isnt resistant!! PTFE is teflon - pretty tough and is used in may applications that expose it to pretty corrosive gunk!

Sounds like you are in the medical trade :)

Sorry I missed the bit about heating the stuff up!!! The heat issue is well taken. Having played with it now, I am indeed a bit worried about the proximity of the ptfe tubes to the coil which, in my case, is a 3mm spaced Ti thing. Its only 6 wraps but they are really well spaced and the ends are perilously close to the PTFE...I'll have a look in a mo and see if they have suffered any. Must say I havent tasted any burning plastic...yet...lol!!

LOL, as you can probably tell, Im not used to interacting with people much these days... Sorry I went completely off topic.
I tend to over think things and forget most people "put off" by it.
No, I definitely wasn't put off at all, personally found it quote interesting [emoji14]

Im surprised they didn't offer those tubes made out of peek if it's that close. Maybe that would be a good idea.

PEEK is a very good idea. I think for touching coils its not a biggies and with a few spaced wraps it seems to be fine (I just checked lol) but for, say, a Ni build with 10 or 12 wraps it could be a problem..as would SS mesh which presumably would short it out!

Maybe PEEK should be suggested to them?!?!
