well it happens w/ every juice - i just take it as a sign my ZFM is dry and therefore my atty is dry, and i'm usually right

Not sure what your theory is here but please let me explain my vote (510+auto).

This happened on a 510 device using a 10440 battery. I'm more than certain the problem was caused by the horrible battery drop off, causing low coil temp that merely simmered the liquid to a thick nasty sauce. At first the drop off had me thinking the atty was drying out, I'd add more drops to the sauce and it would just get nastier. 10440's are 3.7v but one of the worst ones to use, some start dropping off very early before they actually die, and just don't have the power to cook a 510 atty properly, IMO. I have not had this problem at all since switching to 5v, the atties are hot enough to cut through liquid fast, no battery drop off or juice simmering on the coil.

My 10440 device was a mod, so just happened to be a manual. I don't remember having this problem with the auto Evo I started on, those batts were pretty good for a standard Ecig.

I'd be tempted to say they don't know what they are talking about.

An atomizer suddenly tastes burnt when it's dry.
That's pretty much it.

But why are the atomizers getting dryer on the manuals more often?

Button abuse.

I noticed that I was hitting the button on my manual battery before I started to draw and I was holding it down a second after I completed the draw and my attys were giving me the burns very regularly.

I changed my vaping style, began my draw before hitting the button and letting off the switch as the draw completes and the burning was greatly reduced.

This can also happen if you have your PV in your pocket and the button is getting pressed accidentally. This happens occasionally with my eGo.

This may be a "duh" for the more experienced vapers but it took me awhile to figure it out.

510 Mega Batt with standard atty. Just ran it outta juice, and smoked some filler I guess. Nasty stuff. Now I know to refill when flavor is diminished.

Get these mf'n sankes off of Shannon! lol. It doesn't happen very often, but I get the burnt taste no matter if I just dripped or not. And as soon as it comes, it goes away. Maybe it's a wick issue, IDK.

I have had an atty or two go funky like that. and it does taste the same as a dry atty only much stronger. I washed it,, no help. boiled it,, no help. I replaced it,,, that worked.
