I am aware of the istick 50W's issues. Its still a good regulated mod however. From what I hear they have alleviated the issues that the unit has been having. I just bought my second one. I've been doing a lot of thinking on the situation. I think the issues are more so centered around the charge port. Some say that using a charge adapter other than the one that comes with it may be causing the issue. I always use the USB cable that came with it and charge from the USB port on my computer...never in the wall. But I believe what is happening maybe is some folks try to drip on these units and their drippers either leak through the connection on the top or better yet seep into the charge port on the side shorting the unit out. I don't drip on mine...I only use rta's. Just my observations. I do however err on the side of caution whenever I do charge my units. I never charge when I'm asleep or away from the house and I always turn the unit off when not in use and I'm not around.

The EVOD kits are a great basic vaping setup. I used EVOD tanks on my Egos for a few years (rebuilding the atomizers) before I moved on to bigger things.

In another very recent What should I get this nOOb thread, Several Advanced Vapers also said that when they left the house, they
often still grabbed an Evod. Also, lots of Evods stealthing at work. They're relatively simple, they work and their form factor is very convenient.

I have two iSticks and I've had zero issues. And I've seen a ton fly off shelves. Not sure to what you're referring, but the iStick is a nice bump up from an eGo.
Hi Rocket, long time no talk, buddy. :)

The iStick50 is the model which seems to have had some issues, and they are serious. A few have had incidents where they autofire or won't turn off, and catch on fire. And this in a regulated mod to boot that's supposed to have protection circuitry! o_O

These units use LiPo batteries which are not safe chemistry, so when they vent they vent with flames. Allegedly, eLeaf has responded by saying some models had production issues and they have corrected the problem, but we shall see. I'll wait a while before recommending the iStick 50.

And some haven't happened due to the issues you've posted. In any event make sure you keep the box it came in. I've read that eLeaf doesn't serialize the device- all that info would be on the box.

The vape world is a strange one.

Can things happen?? Anything?? You bettya!!!

But vape stuff seems to be looked on with this like sense of fear, or maybe awe.

Plus anytime humans interact with battery tech it always starts with fear. When cordless power tools became common the innernet was clogged with horror stories. If you didn't charge your batteries in a concrete bunker you would kill yourself, your pets and most of your town.

Now nobody thinks twice. And for all the stories on the web I knew my days were number but to this day I have never known personally of a single bad thing happening.

A cheap Chinese device with Chinese batteries?? Surely we are all gonna die. This must be stopped. Can you imagine how many fires and deaths we would have if the Chinese ever started making cell phones?? Now relax cause as we all know all cell phones are made in the USA with USA batteries and we all plug our phones in to charge only when we have time to sit and watch them (you all do right, jesus now I'm nervous just thinking about somebody plugging a phone in before bed.

I'm actually pretty shook up right now. Does anyone know how many Black and Decker Firestorm cordless drill Walmart has sold?? It must be millions. A much more powerful battery in a cheap Chinese device.

I have a fireproof safe big enough to fit the iStick. If I drill a hole for the cable it should be safe.

Does anyone have a number of fires caused by smoking in bed vs iStick fires??

Sometimes its like I'm talking about two different things and its cause I am. Vaping and quitting smoking. Cause to me they are different.

And while I don't wanna see anyone die because of iSticks I'm just not sure the facts support the fear. I'll tell you its a fact quiet afew people aren't sitting at my Thanksgiving table because of smoking. Both because of health and the much more immediate threat of fire.

As a vaping tool I consider the iStick and Nautilus to be very poor choices.

As a quitting smoking tool I consider them to be the most amazing thing since the wheel. Quitting smoking can be difficult. And you can't really quit til you hit your bottom. Thing is we all have different bottoms. I had, had enough so I used some crappy gear. Many other people would quit if given a decent choice but there really wasn't anything as good as the one/two punch of a iStick/Nautilus. I tell people if that combo doesn't work then you must really wanna smoke cause it will get you off smokes and to the point where you can get better gear, or quit everything but I'm not sure where I'm at with that yet.

Local B&M sells a crapton of that combo over say the last yearish. Over the preceding years I knew afew people here and again that quit with crap gear and of coarse there is me. But for everyone I know who used other gear I bet I know or know of 10 people who quit with a iStick Natilus. Its just magic. And they are just walking away from decades long addiction like nothing happened.

Just using the people I know personally I have suggested or out right bought that setup for about 10 people. And about 5 are done smoking and 3 doing well but not perfect. And two others I choose not to speak of. When I quit with a mech not one person was even interested.

Magic I tell ya.

Can always get her a Kbox that goes up to 40 watts. Can't fine tune it, but she a dream, and only 2 buttons to worry bout. plus you just need to get a good 18650 battery :)
I've had issues with the Kbox, I believe it's the insulator around the battery post failing. Twice in a row, within a month or two both times.

Hey, Baditude!! Are you still able to catch some Internet at the local library! Been missing your threads and information!

You know, I haven't used a carto tank in almost 2 months. I still love them, but when the Atlantis came out, it was quite addictive. All the flavor, some impressive clouds, and none of the hassle. I've since learned to rebuild RBAs but it is most definitely not something I actively enjoy. I learned it because I had to. I loathe dripping (ever since the Joyetech 510 lo-res atomizers). Waaaay too much tinkering and fiddling around for my tastes.

It's funny, in the store we've seen a huge shift away from RBAs and RTAs (RTAs sit on the shelf and collect dust). Even sales in mechs have dropped. Drippers are still out there, but the wow factor is gone. Everybody's all about high wattage box mods and sub-ohm tanks. I have to say, I don't mind. It makes "explaining" sub-ohm much easier to those "vapers" who want to blow huge clouds with no desire to learn. We had to concede that point, man. Too many kiddos wanted to blow big clouds like their buddies, but didn't want to learn anything about battery safety, Ohm's law, etc. So, here's your 30 watt iStick, here's an Atlantis, here's some 6 mg liquid, knock yourself out.

We had a dripper come in the other day. He wanted to drip some of our premium juice. We only had open bottles in 12 mg. He scoffed at us. Literally scoffed at us. "Really? 12 mg? What are you trying to do, kill me?" We all rolled our eyes but kept quiet. I said it, I had to. "Not everyone drips, man." We cater to all sides, but starter kits are the bread and butter. Drippers are the vocal minority.

And I know all about the 50 watt iStick problems. Heard enough horror stories from other people.

After watching the videos of some autofiring on Isticks...didn't even risk it and returned my Istick 50W back to my B&M.
Exchanged it, and got a SMOK M80 PLUS.
I'm scared of my Smok m80. I have an issue with it not reading ohms correctly, and I decided not to use it anymore when it read a sub ohm coil as 2.62 ohms and burned my throat at 24 watts. (It was a Subtank coil, that reads .55 on my ohms meter and on other devices.) My device is brand new and has the updated chip.

edit: Fellow ECF members have come to my rescue again! I feel dumb now; it seems my resistance was jumping around due to my contacts being dirty.
