Ok, so I just started learning about vaping a few days ago and I ordered some disposable 510 vaporizers that I have not yet received. After reading through some of the info on this forum, I've decided that I might as well take the plunge and purchase a real unit, if I'm going to truly understand what vaping has to offer. I figure I can always use the disposables for back-up.

Now that I've made that decision, I'm having a hard time figuring out what type of unit is going to be best for me. I know the 510 is popular, but it sounds like the battery life is short and it only produces a so-so vape. Someone suggested it is a good unit for newbies, but after reading about so many people "upgrading" to better models, I'd prefer to skip ahead to a better model, rather than purchasing something that I will soon want to upgrade.

The units I'm seriously looking at are the eGo, the Riva, or the Vapor King.

Not having even vaped, yet, I'm tring to figure out if the Vapor King, with the cartomizer, is more limiting than the models with the atomizers and cartridges separate. I'd like to experiment with different liquids and I'm wondering if that can be done with that style of unit. On the other hand, it seems like the simpler unit might be easier to maintain for someone like me, who has absolutely no clue what they are doing. Two things I really want are a good battery life and a nice, strong vapor.

Please forgive me if my terminology is off- I haven't quite gotten the hang of what everything means, yet. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!! :thumb:

if you go for the geo/tornado it is a 510 with a big battery (about 7 hours use), and you can allways get adapters to cange what atty you use in it.

if ybu go to Totally wicked .com you can get a tornado kit (2 batterys, 2 attys, charger and a few carts) for $80 but dont for get to get some spare liquid.

this is the starter kit for the tornado and you can get 7.5% of with a discount code, but im a UK user so dont have a USA code for ya.

have fun Dan.

Woot! I'm glad you have decided to upgrade! I wish I had just started with the eGo although I'll always credit my 510 with helping me to quit smoking. The eGo is what completely did it though. Right now, you can get (2) complete eGo's from cignot.com for $78. That is a ROCKING deal. They also have fantastic customer service.

Whatever decision you make, I know you are are going to love it!! Congrats again!!

Scarlet, The vapor King is a kr808D-1 model ecig with a brand name attached to it and an inflated price. Ironicly, and just to confuse matters there is a decent supplier named "Vaporkings" (plural) that sells a kr808D-1 kit without the personal charging case (PCC) for half the price. There's no way a PCC is worth $45.00. Here's a link to "Vaporkings" KR808D-1 2 piece e-Cigarette
A lot of people find the 2 piece design much easier to use and you can refill the cartomizers. They sell empty (blank) ones for just that purpose. You can use a 901 atomizer on a kr808 battery.
The most versatile model is the 510 however. You can use a 510 atomizer or 510 cartomizers with that model. There are also bigger, longer lasting batteries for the 510 called eGo, Riva, Tornado, etc.
Hope I haven't confused you more with all this and I hope this helps a little.

You picked the winner!!! Thank you so much for the tip about KR808D=VaporKing. You're absolutely right- it's silly to pay a bunch more for the exact same thing. I decided that as a compelte newbie, the cartomizer design will probably make it a lot easier to adapt to vaping. Once I master that, maybe I'll go for the eGo. BTW, I had to take the link out of the above quote, since I'm a newb and all... :rules:

I ordered from Vaporkings and tacked on some extra cartomizers (both filled and blanks) several ejuices, and a more powerful 380mAh battery (with a 10 second shut-off!). I got it ordered in time to ship today, too! I'll be vaping away in no time! :vapor:

Thanks to everyone for your tips and suggestions! I'm just glad I finally settled on one, for better or worse. All of the info on here is awesome, but my head was starting to spin trying to absorb it all. I think I'll have a much better understanding once I actually use one myself! ;-)

Now, I just need to come up with a nickname for my new sidekick. KR808D doesn't exactly roll off the tongue... :2cool:

Most people refer to it as an 808. (Whenever I see KR8... I tend to mentally say "crate.")

Your disposables will also let you figure out if you basically like the 510. The atomizers that come with it can be used on a 510 even after the disposable batteries are dead. An eGo is a fancy 510 with a longer battery life.

I went straight from stock batteries to a mod (a Little Chuck) which has even longer battery life than an eGo. I've settled into that with the mega 510 cartos. That's a good combo for me.

You can also buy adapters so you can try different different atomizers. If, for example, you want to try a 510 cartomizer, you can pick up an 808 to 510 adapter for $2.49 at Mad Vapes and use 501 cartos or atomizers on your 808 battery. That's a lot cheaper than buying every unit until you find your favorite. :)

Tornado (Ego) has my vote. With the Low Resist attys it hits nice and has a lot of vapor.

I started on the Blu a year ago and hated it (went back to regular cigs) Got my Tornado 2 days ago with LR atomizers, many different vaporbomb.com juices (80PG/20VG/24mg nic), 1 Totally Wicked Marlboro e-liquid, and its great.

I have been experimenting (mixing, snipping cart filters) for two days straight. I guess it depends on the person and what they smoked before, but 25% VB Maxboro, 50% VB Cappuccino, and 25% TW Marlboro is the closest Ive come to my regular smokes. Im waiting on my juice from several different vendors, will bee experimenting all week.

Thank you so much for the suggestions and advice, everyone. I received my unit yesterday and I'm currently vaping coconut e-liquid from VaporKings. Not bad...sort of reminds me of the smell of pipe tobacco.

I do have a couple of stupid questions. Can the blank cartomizers be refilled with the same flavor of e-juice, or do they need to be tossed after one use? Also, I refrigerated my e-juice to preserve it's freshness. Should I get it back to room temp before filling a blank cartomizer, or can I fill it cold?

Thanks again, everyone! I'd be completely lost without this forum.

Hi, Scarlet, and welcome!
The blank cartomizers can be refilled several times. Members seem to report anywhere from 3 refills to .... a lot! Cartomizers seem to be somewhat variable in overall quality, so each cartomizer will have its own lifespan. You can even refill them with other flavors, but they have to be cleaned out first. Some boil them after removing the white mouthpiece cap from the end, and the little washer beneath it. Some just rinse them several times, blowing out the water repeatedly, and then dry them for one or two days before refilling.

Some cartomizers have a hard plastic cap on the mouthpiece end, and others have a soft cap. The soft cap is much easier to remove for refilling and/or cleaning.

There are also some newer cartomizers sometimes referred to as "mega" or "turbo" or "premium". Those tend to hold more liquid, and take a greater number of refills.

Thank you, Buzzy! I actually posted another thread, because I thought my tacked on questions may not be answered here. You proved me wrong!

I'm very glad to hear that I can re-use cartomizers. The ones I ordered from VaporKings are hard-tipped, so rinsing them and blowing them out may be the easier way to go. I think I'd also like to try the V4L cool Turbos (or something like that) with the soft tip. I'm not quite getting the vape I would like, yet.

I did some research on the unit I bought, but I didn't realize the difference in performance among the various cartomizers. Or the difference in e-juices for that matter. From what I've read here, I definitely need to check out Tasty Vapors.

Club42,

The EgO was on my short list, but I decided the two-piece would be an easier starter. I'm happy with the KR8 so far, but once I've learned enough to broaden my horizons, I may very well get the eGo, as well. It looks and sounds like a great unit!
