I started vaping at 24mg one year ago this month. I started cutting down to where I am now, 11mg last spring. I intend to stay at 11mg over the winter and begin reducing to 0mg next spring. I hope to be at 0 midsummer. I have tried to do this in a way to avoid weight gain as much as possible. So far, I have been successful. Other than gaining a couple pounds when I switched to low (which may have been due to other factors), I am at the same weight I was 1 year ago. I weigh myself daily.

I started higher at 36mg. But had to cut that back immediately. Im at 24mg now and dont think thats right either as over the last week I have REALLY been craving an analog ( I haven't given in ) I think 30mg is where I need to be for right now. My plan is to cut back the nic slowly over the course of a year or so, then once I am at 0 nic, I may give up vaping too ( may not as I really really enjoy it hehehe )

The thing I see about vaping is: Its a way to defeat the addiction while maintaining the habit. Habits can be easy to break, addictions are difficult. So by cutting the nicotine back slowly, Ill defeat the addiction to nicotine first, then deal with the oral fixation habit later.

My doctor is recommending them to her smoking patients also. But what I'm wondering is how safe is the liquid that presumably comes from China? I mean there was the bad baby formula, dog food, toothpaste...... I just don't trust anything that comes from China! I've stumbled upon a few sites that says their ingredients are made in the US and FDA approved, and I've used the EcoPure juice from the UK - but there are so many e-juice sites, with yummy flavors how do you guys determine where and what is a safe product to buy?

I think your Dr.'s viewpoint is about as good as we'll see and is very promising. I think my Dr. will be the same - but looking forward to talking with her about it. My Dr. is fairly young and very open-minded - but my previous Dr.'s? I wouldn't have broached the subject unless I was having a problem that I thought was specifically related to vaping.

My doctor was pleased to hear it in May ... I look forward to talking more in Nov when I go again. I know regulation and taxes is coming, but I do look forward to some real studies, long term info ... stuff NOT influenced by Bug Tobacco and the Pharma crooks who do NOT want us to give up stinkies forever.

Didn't I read some where the National Association of Physicians gave e-cigs a thumbs up for lower risks and eliminating second hand smoke risks all together?

Here is their petition to the courts: http://www.aaphp.org/special/joelstobac/2010/Petition/20100207FDAPetitionSummary.pdf

I think you might want to watch this (and send the link to your doctor):
YouTube - Chinese E-liquid Manufacturing Facilities

If you look carefully, you'll see the Boge name on the front of the vats. This is where 99% of the e-liquid in China comes from.

Testing is big for liquids (and many companies have registered with the FDA, though none are approved). Look for testing certificates at the manufacturer's websites. Boge's are listed at the bottom of this page (scroll down): China Electronic Cigarette Cartridges. Shenzhen Manufacturer, Exporter

I have no worries about liquid from Boge (which is what most Supplier's sell). As for USA made liquids, ask before purchasing. Most of the time, they say that the INGREDIENTS are FDA approved (not the liquid itself). This is from Halo's USA made liquid line: All the formula's ingredients are FDA and FEMA approved, although as your well aware, there are no FDA approved e-liquids. The flavoring formulas come from a FEMA GRAS facility which is a world class facility. A FEMA GRAS designation means that the substance receiving this classification has been tested using certain standards, and has been deemed safe for use by people.

Known suppliers on the forum are a good place to make liquid purchases.

My convo with my doctor went like this:

"I quit smoking 5 months ago."
"Great!"
"I am using e-cigarettes and have no immediate intention of quitting them. Is that OK?"
"Ideally, you should quit nicotine entirely."
"I am afraid I will return to smoking if I do that."
"If there is the slightest risk of you returning to smoking, then do not quit the e-cigarettes. They are much less harmful to your health."

It was the AAPHP - American Association of Public Health Physicians.

To those going to see your doctor - don't forget to take the physician info-graph handout created by CASAA with you! You can download the PDF and then print it out on your computer (it's two-sided, so print one side, flip the paper and then print the back. A thicker paper works best.) Ideally, make a whole stack of them for your doctors to give as handouts to their patients!!

anywhere my broomstick takes me
I know several people with COPD that have started vaping and report some improvement of symptoms. If nothing else, it is safer to vape than smoke while on oxygen because they are less likely to blow themselves up.

I have copd and have showed huge improvements..

Infact, ive been able to drop my spiriva, and drop my symbicort inhalers.

I do at times rely on my quick inhaler( which is a differ med) but only every now and then..really dont use it that much..

My father, when alive( bless his soul) was on oxygen and vaped with his mask pulled to the side..

I gave up tobacco 13 months ago. After a couple of false starts (Blu, 306), I got a 510 and quit; but only with the help of 36mg. e-juice. Over this year, I have gradually cut down the NIC level from 36 to 24,18,16 & 10-12mg. with absolutely no cravings or side-effects. Today, I got my first shipment of 6mg. juice from Halo (and waiting for my order of 6mg. juice from ivape.net). I'm still getting excellent vapor and TH with the 6mg. juice and looking forward to 0mg. in the next few months.

It's been a long process, but I have never felt better and have had countless other benefits; I don't stink, my clothes don't stink, my house doesn't stink, my teeth are whiter. and (most importantly) I'm not adversely effecting my family and friends as I once did. It's a Win, Win situation!

As for the oral fixation, I kinda like that and think I will continue vaping for quite some time.

I'm headed that way on Tuesday, I'll have to remember to ask. Going to see what the VA asthma doctor thinks about vaping, and leave a huge stack of business cards in my wake. Last doc I showed the 510 to was very supportive and amazed at how well it seemed to work.

Results are in, after more than a year of using my PV instead of smoking..... BP is "perfect"...heart is nice and strong, slow beats...lungs are clear. Showed the doc my 510 and a bottle of juice and asked him what he thought...

Basically, the only think nicotine does to your system is constrict blood vessels. He did say that staying away from any of the cancer causing compounds in smoke was what really mattered....compared these PV devices to the other nicotine sources out there, and said that the pharmacy at the VA in Reno actually sells a PV, along with nicotrol inhalers.

Why people talk trash on the Veteran's hospitals I'll never know. Never been to a better place (just don't go to the one in LA). Yeah, they might not care just like everyone else, but they act like they do until you leave.
