Just wondered if anyone else ever had this happen.

I had a tank that was leaking and no matter what I did, it continued to leak.

Sometimes when this happens, it just needs a new coil even though this is a new tank.

Once in awhile you will get a bad or dead coil even in a new tank.

So emptied the tank, unscrewed the old coil and went to put a new one in.

Started screwing it down and it just kept spinning and wouldn't screw on tight.

Checked to see if the bottom was moving(the post) and it wasn't.

Tried a Halo coil and one of the Kanger coils I have just to see if I could get it to work and neither one would screw down.

Eventually I turned it enough times that when I pulled up to remove the coil, the top of the post came with it and it had a wire sticking out of it.

Makes sense now as to why it wouldn't stop leaking.

Don't want to go to the expense of sending it back or anything, I mean nothing in life is perfect and this is the first bad tank I have had out of the 16 I have received.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this experience.

Thanks,

Cindy

Cindy I have 19 tanks filled and I haven't had that issue not once.

I did have one blue tank that at the very bottom juice leaked out on the outside of the tank above the silver ring where they joined, I believe Aviationrich had the same problem, Halo replaced that tank for me no problem.

I also had one red tank where the tip wouldn't screw down right and I was regretting not buying any replacement tips that DaveOno had suggested we get but then I remembered the leaking blue tank and I used that tip and it worked fine. Then I ordered me 4 more from the web site. ;)

Never had that happen. But I have been having issues with the coil unscrewing when I take the tip off.

I think they all do that because of the tight fit with the mouthpiece and coil condom. If not for that tight fit juice would leak out of the mouthpiece.

The coil comes completely off with the tip. I'd understand more if it stopped after a few turns.

Thanks Evie, Rich and Sando7.

Exactly what I thought.

Only one out of 16 is nothing to be concerned about and I know if I contacted Halo they would replace it for me but it wouldn't be worth sending it back.

And I keep thinking about how awesome they were when I had the battery issue, I mean we are only talking $6.99 so I'm not going to bother them with it, was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue.

I haven't had this problem, but I don't expect these tanks to last forever LOL

I'm still waiting for my replacement battery. Not totally thrilled - I sent it last Tuesday, and everytime I ask if they've got it they tell me that they'll let me know when it arrives. I realize I used that battery more often than not in my purse, and I miss it :p

Cindy,
Can you tell me how the center post is attached to the base? I think I understand the coil head is just pressed together with the grommet holding it all together. But the center post in my tanks seems too solid to be simply captured with a grommet. Is it just pressed into the hole in the base? It might be bad tolerances here, probably the base hole a bit too big? any remnants of an adhesive? And I'd bet the wire is just held with grommet like the coil is.

I can't help you much this time, just trying to learn from your "autopsy". Who might be able to help is our tank guru, BigBen.

Cindy, I would contact Halo. They sent out a replacement tank for me without me sending the old one back.

My issue was the old style tank (red) with the old tip with the short threads. I didn't trust the tip would hold, and was just questioning if this was normal, since it didn't match the 2 clear tanks in the kit. They responded with a "sorry, we have sent you another tank".

The replacement was the same. So I used both tanks. But those old style tips break, so replacement tips saved them.

Contact Halo, saying it leaked from day one, and only after attempting the logical fixes yourself with new coils (don't mention the Kanger part, lol) did you discover the obvious manufacturing flaw.

(maybe I did help?)

Wait a second....I had the same exact problem with my red tank. Its the only 1/4 tanks I have that is the "new" design, with the extra metal ring at the top of the tank, and the tip with minimal threading. Is that the old or new style?! Because the tips that design comes with suck, it kept coming off in my pocket, emptying the ejuice into my jeans. I replaced it with a new .99c tip with more threading and no more problems. I don't know why they would offer the faulty tips with less threading, when the tank threading is the same because both style tips fit both tank designs. Why the difference in tanks anyways, with and without the metal ring at the top?

The reason they don't ask for the faulty tanks back is because they demand priority mail shipping on returns, which costs as much as a new tank. I'm living with a wonky battery because I refused to pay for priority mail 1/3 the cost of the battery I already payed for.

My guess is they either changed suppliers or have 2 to keep up with demand. There are 2 tip styles, 2 top ring styles and 2 bottom styles!

Tips: the short threads suck. The metal is not attached to the tip very well by design. The longer threaded tips are the only ones to use. The replacement tips I got are all long thread.

Tank top rings. The ones that aren't as deep Have more threads inside and seem to be better made, looking at it under a loupe. The ones with the extra into the tank have less threads (maybe older ones that were designed for the short thread tips). The workmanship seems poorer.

The bottoms differ only in how many threads. You can tell by how many are above the port hole. Some have 1 thread over, others have 3 or 4 over the hole. There is an adaptor that fits one and not the other.

The basic design of the tank is great; the engineering of the diameters, the seals, the ports make for a great vape. However, the tolerances of these proportions is not held close at all. I can see a lot of differences even between top rings of the same style. If they were built to higher standards, the cost would be too high. Most times, it's close enough. I do have one tank that doesn't seal well at the top.

Thinking about it, I don't want to think of the quality of other vendors that sell an "equivalent" kit for 35 or 40. And we aren't even talking electronics and built in safety that Halo Batteries enjoy.

Thanks for the info Dave.

As a Halonaut (can we add this to the Halon vocabulary?), I find those particular kinks more interesting than I should, lol!

They made me priority mine back to them for replacement, but they refunded me the shipping.

Very interesting.

What did you have that was defective, if you don't mind me asking? And did they refund the priority mail charge back to your card, or credit your Halo account?

I PM'd Cinder Ella asking for Return Services via USPS so I could just leave it in the mailbox because I can't make it to my local USPS office within the 9-5pm business hours as they requested, and I feel as if the $6 surcharge to send an initially defective unit back is unfair on the customers end. Especially a loyal customer who has given them $1,000+ of business.

She said she would see what she could do, then she never responded. That was over a month ago, now it's no longer under warranty. Kinda crappy customer service, especially after what I'm hearing from you guys about priority mail returns being mutually exclusive.

It was a VV battery, and they refunded my card as soon as they got the package at their returns departmant. And they paid the shipping back to me again.

I emailed customer service and the gentleman I talked with told me to write into the additional notes section "Refund priority shipping as per (the CS rep's name)." They were going to make me pay the shipping but I started saying about how much BS it was that I got the defected one in the first place, it wasn't my fault their QC didn't catch it. They didn't want to but they understood, and picked up the cost.

I've had good and bad experiences with their CS, I have to say you NEED to email or call, don't PM Cinder or do their silly little online CS Rep chat.

I would still email them and ask if they can replace it even if the warranty is up. Just tell them their returns policy had you confused (which really isn't lying since they are not really 100% clear or consistent). Tell them you tried contacting Cinder before the warranty was up but didn't get a response. They seem to be pretty understanding and might even still replace it for you, its worth a shot IMHO.

Hi GreenLeaf,

I did in fact message you back the next day, I'm not sure why you didn't receive it! You do have to go through Customer Service for these kinds of things. We do need the item returned to look at because if we are receiving defective products from the factory we obviously don't want to continue sending them out. Unfortunately we cannot just replace every item that people claim is broken because many times it is due to user error which is why we request that you send them back and then we will resend out a replacement. Much like purchasing almost any item from any store, you return to the store to get an item replaced. I have personally never had a store refund me for the gas used to return to the store for this replacement.

While I do understand your frustration with the situation, the USPS is open on Saturdays and many are open late (until 7 or 8pm) on week days. Also, I'm not positive of all your interactions with CS but it sounds like unfortunately you received an answer that you didn't want from our customer service rep though it is consistent with our policy and you then chose not take the actions necessary to get a replacement.

Please let me know if there is anything else you need. While we obviously care very much about our customers happiness but we are still a business and there are MANY people out there looking for freebies which is why we have the policy's we have, to protect both ourselves and our customers and make sure each customer is treated fairly.
