Cool fire 1 is regulated to 8.5w.

I doubt you'd get away with using any single-coil basic Kanger clearomisers without some potential risk of burning.

I use iClear30S up to 10 watts without problems. Are you giving the wicks time and swilling enough to keep up?

If the Coolfire is doing it's job, the ohm rating will make little difference.... but I keep getting confused by all these new clearomisers. I can't get up to 8.5w with evods/T3S/mini Protanks, but with the EVOD 2, I need to be around 10w....

Maybe somebody has more insight into this phenomenon.

I was aware that single coils don't work all that well. I also am taking dry puffs before every time i use my mod and it is helping to an extent but I can still taste the wick occasionally. Using a 50/50 pg/vg blend should i think about upping the vg/pg ratio on ei
do the dry hits occur when the tank is full? I can use 100%vg juice in those iclear 30's and they seem to wick just fine until the tank gets about halfway full then you have to tilt it a bit to get the wicks to...well wick, thats the down side to top coil setups, but IMO the iclear 30 was my favorite till I ditched it for drippers and kayfuns.

If you want to stick with clearomizers, any of the dual coil clearomizers should be able to handle the 8 watts of the Cool Fire 1. If a top coil design like most of the iClear 30 line, make sure to tip the tank horizontal frequently once the juice level falls to keep the top of the wicks wet at all times to prevent dry or burnt hits.

You might want to check out cartotanks. These use an entirely different wick setup (pre-punched cartomizers). I've found cartotanks to provide better overall flavor and consistancy than clearomizers.

Hmmmm - tough one - I would try a different topper. I am a big Innokin fan and have several of their models - not cool fire.

However - I don't like any of their toppers - top feed means one needs to turn device upside down or sideways to saturate wicks.

U might want to try an inexpensive EVOD or evod clone, mini-protank, boge cartomizer with or without tank - bottom fed

Single coil is not the issue IMHO - I use exclusively single coil bottom feed toppers - make my own micro coils 1.5 ohms and vape at 8 watts. - with great success and vaping enjoyment. I rebuild EVODs, T3s, mini protanks, RTAs, RBAs, and RDAs.

Different toppers work for different users - many like the iclear series - unfortunately for me the four I have that came with itaste devices are in a permanent timeout.

making ones own coils? I am assuredly intrigued.

I think that a few factors come into play with ones preferred vaping wattage of choice.

I think it is a balance between battery device (how it applies voltage to coil - PWM or straight DC or ?) - coil(s) resistance and placement - wicking material and placement of wicking - juice pg/vg ratio and thickness of juice used (I dilute my 75% vg based juice).

Everyones sweet spot for vaping varies through the whole gambit of possibilities.

For example: Mine for my Innokin battery devices: 134,SVD,EP,VV/V3 is at 8 watts 1.5 ohm single micro-coil/cotton yarn or ekowool with cotton inside and 75%VG diluted DIY juice - almost independent of bottom fed topper.

It took me a long time to figure this out through trial and error - mostly error.

Tanks are always problematic for me - take fiddling from time to time. The only two toppers I can 100% count on: Boge Cartomizer and Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (RDA).

Now, today my mini pro tank 2, evod,IGO-L, and Kayfun lite are performing flawlessly - tomorrow who knows (not me).

U might like to check out Rip Trippers - YouTube - watching his mico-coil builds is where I learned how to do it. Materials are very inexpensive - I had necessary tools already but they can also be inexpensive.

There is a dedicated forum/thread here on coil building with far more knowledgeable help available - I like doing it - always been a tinkerer.

For me having spent lots of $$$$ on vaping equipment, I now only purchase rebuildable toppers - some easier than others - but it is not rocket science.

Building and trying out different coils/wicking material is fun for me - kind of a hobby now.

The downside is my homemade coils never wear out - well maybe I never let them - I do like changing them out or trying a different coil build. The longest change out of coil was 4 months as a test - used in IGO-L daily - dried burned and rewicked almost daily. I said enough is enough and changed it out:D
