When I fly, my tanks leak. Last time I flew, I packed up some filled Vision Vivi Novas in a plastic bag, and kept the bag with me in the cabin. There was juice all over the bag when I landed. My juices in bottles never seems to leak.

Any fix other than "don't bring filled tanks on a plane" greatly appreciated.
Thanks from Ms. Beach

I think you need to periodically open them a bit to relieve the pressure that builds up.

I flew this morning, and same thing, juice all over the plastic bag. Not too much leaked out, just enough to soak everything. Filling them halfway I could do. I don't know about letting the pressure out, I probably wouldn't want my fingers to smell like vape juice. What is a Pelican Case? That sounds like a good idea.

I fly all the time and have no tank leaks .. however that is because I sat next to an off-duty pilot a few years ago who also vaped. He told me to turn my PV with tank UPSIDE down from the time of take-off until the plane gets to 30,000 ft. Since then I've always turned my PV upside down (mouthpiece down) and have never had a leak since then. Oh once I did try turning it right side up at 28,000 ft .. it leaked. At 30,000 ft it is perfect and you don't have to turn it upside down again, it stays perfect through the landing etc. It only happens during take-offs, not during landings, so once you've reached 30,000 ft you don't have to turn it upside down again, ever, unless you are going on another plane that's going to take-off.

Brilliant! Thank you. Perfect. Next time, I will do that. It makes sense, when you think of the direction the air pressure goes.

Hey Sandy,

Thanks for the post here, I plan on flying out to Chicago next month and this is very helpful. I was curious if TSA gave you any problems about your gear at all? Particularly the liquid?

Thanks again.

I just got back from Chicago on Friday. I use a Ego and cartos that I can stick in my pocket and I didn't have any issues going through security. I packed my tanks and batteries in my suitcase. Both times, when I got to Chicago, and when we landed back in Memphis, my suitcase had been rummaged through and the nice little TSA card left inside. They opened my bottle of Bobas and didn't put the top on good and juice was everywhere. My Vamo was out of the case and shoved in the side of the suitcase. I understand you have to check these things but at least be courteous and put things back the way they were.....:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Definitely going to depend on Tank design.

i.e. Protank - Bottom wick - Upside down - wick out of liquid.
Vivi - Top wick - Upside Down - wicks Flood - next stop, mouth piece
Ithaka, probably best to leave slightly open and turn upside down.

Expansion is expansion and the only thing that will stop liquid from exiting is keeping it away from the exit.:)

Having both Scuba experience and learning to Fly single engine, I learned a bit about atmospheric pressure change and effects.

Hi Doug, hope you have fun in this amazing city! :)
I never get hassled about liquids in whatever airport I have been in. I carry them separately from the PVs. Hope you are flying into Midway. It has a bunch of really good local Chicago restaurants. Especially Manny's Deli! O'Hare is a big pain in the ..., but it's where most flights come into.

That little "air gap" in the tank at sea level pressure when you get on the airplane, aircraft climbs, the air pressure is less at altitude, (above 10k feet is where pressurization is needed and aircraft usually don't pressurize internally to above sea level pressures though), still the pressure differential causes the sea level pressure air bubble to expand because it is still a higher pressure even though slight, is enough to push the juice out.

Almost the same principle on the act of lowering pressure on a straw doesn't suck fluid up the straw...the differential pressure pushes the fluid thru the straw

Above picture imagine the yellow cylinder has a cap but that blue pressure is still there (the pressure at sea level), in the airplane the "lower density air" is the little red arrow, slowly pushes the juice out the wick thru the air vent tube and either past the drip tip or out the 510 connector

You're going to love this TSA story. This morning, I had my carry-on rummaged through. She checked it and checked it and I thought it was because I left an empty tank that has metal in it, and a cell phone battery in there in my haste packing.

NOPE!

What set it off was, I had bought a present for a friend. A pair of candles. I asked what about the candles set the damn detector off?
The answer? THE SHAPE!!!!!!

What did they think it was, sticks of dynamite?

Li Ion battery?

Computers designed to identify by shapes...so yeah..computer saw it and unlike a human can't differentiate between dynamite and candles

Thanks Sandy,

My company is located in Chicago, so I get to go out twice a year. It is a great city, much cleaner and way more organized than NYC. I love flying into Midway, I get the Gyro when I go in if I have the time before my flight. augh, last trip, I had PLENTY of time before my flight and got to explore every part of Midway for 7 hours! :glare:

I'm thinking I will keep my Protanks empty in my Carry on and bring a Mini Evo with a mini protank to get me through until I settle in.
