Hi all,

I started vaping on 15th January this year, and I'm happy to say that I've not had a single analogue since then. To be truthful, it's not been any kind of struggle. No cravings, no temptation, it's been that easy!
Because of that, I now believe I'm a vaper for life. I love it! In fact, I actually prefer vaping to smoking, and there's a whole world of vaping adventures to be had out there. I'm pretty excited!

I use an Innokin Lea, which is described as a tank system. I understand that. There's a battery, an atomiser, and a cartridge tank filled with juice that goes into the top of the atomiser. The spike inside the atomiser punches through the lid of the cartridge and the juice wicks down to the coil to produce the vapour.

But I've been lurking around this forum since I started vaping, and I see a lot of talk about tanks and carto tanks, and they don't seem to be anything like the tank I'm using. I'm getting very confused, so I finally had to stop lurking and register in order to show my newbiness and my ignorance of all things vapewise by asking.

Would someone please take pity on me and dispel my confusion by explaining the different types of "tank" and how they work?

Welcome !

Bottom line is if the tanks are working for you don't worry about it.

Cardomizers are basically atomizers and tanks all in one. Does the same job in that it delivers juice to something that is going to vaporise it.

The advantages are that you can buy large cardo's to save the hassle of filling up the tank often.

A lot of people swear by them. I appreciate the fact I don't have to fill the tank regularly but even though my research has been far from exhaustive to date prefer the flavour of the tank directly to the atty.

Horses for courses.

Thanks for the welcome, Andy!

And thanks for the explanation. I'm getting on pretty well with the little Lea tanks, apart from the odd flood when I try to vape as if I was smoking (short puffs), but they are awfully little and I seem to be forever refilling them!

I think I'm starting to look at branching out into more advanced territory, but the learning curve is very steep. For instance, I have no idea if I could take my Lea battery and start attaching other things to it, such as one of these other tank systems, with cartomisers etc?

An atty tank you know all about.

A carto tank is a clear plastic tube that slips around a carto and feeds it through holes punched in the side. You can fill the carto tank with about 3-6ml of juice. Only for those that love a juice so much they want to marry it! It's a bit more advanced and takes a lot of play to find what works but the same can be said about atty tanks.

A cartomizer tank is just a juice holder/feeder. The cartomizer is still doing the "work". Basically, you're submerging a cartomizer in the tank to continually feed it juice from a hole "punched" into the side of the carto and also it will keep the coil/s wet. Because of their size and the fact that the carto is fed directly from the tank, topping up your carto is no longer necessary and the length of time between tank fills is far greater. Mine generally will last between 24 and 36 hours before I have to refill the tank. Some will say that the carto lasts longer because it is always wet. I change mine very frequently (2 days) so i can't really say that is true or not.

I started with Joye 510's two years ago (have my first kit still and both batteris an attys work!) but just this year I decided to try some new hardware. Now 510 cartridge system worked just fine for two years for me so I didn't know where to start. I decided to stay with what I know and bought a Ego-T type B kit. Wow I was impressed but I liked being able to still use all the 510 attys and a few 306 attys I have laying around. I then went and got a 510 drip tip stuck it in a 510 atty and threaded it to a ego battery. huh so thats what I have been missing all this time. That was my first ever experience with dripping and I like it. Finally I bought a Vision Deux 2.5ml Clear Clearomiser with green LED. They are top coil tanks, I think they are tanks? Idk about what they are for sure but I LOVE IT! So I just orded a GotVapes™ FLüX OnTheTown 510 e-Cigarette Pack RED from GotVapes.com tonight. I am a biker and I thought that I rather misplace or drop that kit while riding then either of my ego-t's. I hope that never happens. I also live on a farm and well there is a whole lot of reasons not to carry my expensive ego's. The kits come with 2 FLüXomier CE2 Deluxe Cartomizers and a mega 510 bat. Now that I have sampled other systems for vaping I have to say tanks and these clearomiser thingies are my favorite. Ok so my point is if you see a tank or carto, etc and you have extra funds grab one and try it. My first Clearomiser was about $6 so I figured I didn't have much to lose.

The big clear cartos that hold about 2ml are also referred to as tanks, but really are just large cartos. If you use this kind of tank, you throw it away when it dies as opposed to the tank on an ego, or a carto tank where only the carto itself is tossed when it dies. I had to replace the carto in my carto tank yesterday. It was 2 1/2 weeks old. It didn't die, the draw just got a little hard.......just to confuse you a little more........LOL

Welcome to ecf, JuicedUp. I'm glad you finally registered and started asking questions. I know it can seem confusing at first, especially since it seems like there are new developments every day. Don't worry if it takes a while to get everything sorted out. The important thing is you are no longer smoking cigarettes. Take your time and experiment. That's half the fun.

Wow, what a lovely crowd!

Thank you all so very, very much for all the information and advice.

Funny, isn't it? The more you learn, the more you find out you don't know :D

I die a wiser man than all of you, because I know, I know nothing.

Best tank I have found and used is the J-Tank. No issues, no leaks and lasts all day even for a very heavy vaporer.

J-TANK

This tank holds 5.5 ml on a standard Boge cartomizer. This is great as you do not have to buy a long type of cartomizer or dual coil.

As far as the hole goes, I have a dremel but I simply tap the cartomizer with a hammer and finishing nail enough to break through the surface of the metal and done deal.

Welcome JuicedUp!

I'm newer to the forums than you: joined only a week ago. Nice to see another Lea user on the forum!

Like you I haven't even wanted an "analog" cigarette since I started with the Lea on 3rd Feb. I cannot believe how easy this is, after 22 years smoking 20-25/day, and more recently 15g tobacco/day. Sure, I'm feeling some changes, but it's not even a struggle. Excited? You bet. I've only tried 8 flavours so far... :vapor:

But I've been lurking around this forum since I started vaping, and I see a lot of talk about tanks and carto tanks, and they don't seem to be anything like the tank I'm using. I'm getting very confused, so I finally had to stop lurking and register in order to show my newbiness and my ignorance of all things vapewise by asking.

Would someone please take pity on me and dispel my confusion by explaining the different types of "tank" and how they work?

Thanks for taking the hit for me... I've been floundering in confused newbiness myself, as the "tank talk" on the forum doesn't seem to correspond to the Lea-type tanks at all. So I'm getting some good answers myself from your question.

On the Lea:

The tanks are very small. Are you using the 400 or 800? Mine's the 800, which I believe has slightly larger tanks. If this is true and you have the 400, they may be cross-compatible. I got mine from the friendly people at the Vapour Room (UK - no relation to the US Vapor Room) - might be worth asking them as they're extremely helpful.

Yep, the tanks don't take long to finish. As someone still experimenting, I take this as an opportunity to change flavours. Even built a box I call the Tank Plank to carry my tanks around, all filled up with different flavours. If that (and the gooseneck you can see in my avatar pic) seems a bit nuts - well, that's the enthusiasm I'm getting from vaping and kicking the cigarettes so easily!

I hope you've got some spare atomizers. I ordered just 1 extra one. One of my 2 has now burned out (I think). So I'm hoping this last one lasts until I can get another order in. The Lea tanks are completely reusable; you may be aware of that, it was a surprise to me. I'm guessing the hole where they contact the atomiser might wear out and start leaking eventually, but I've seen no signs of it yet.

About connecting the Lea battery to other things: I found a possible problem when I got the gooseneck, which like the Lea is "510-compatible". I think it's the Lea atomisers, as opposed to the Lea battery, that may be difficult to fit to other equipment. The hole on the atomiser is right in the bottom of the sticking-out thread, where the atomiser makes contact with the battery's centre contact. So this atomiser needs those slots machined out of the internal thread of the Lea battery, that you can see clearly for yourself: without those, there's no way for air to get from the tiny slots in the side of the battery top down to the atty's airhole. If anyone else can comment on this (I've never seen any other fitting, obviously being a newbie), I'd love to hear it.

Happy vaping! :vapor:
