Tasty first vape, but a crackling/gurgling noise?

I just got a chance to try my 510 this a.m. and I'm loving the taste. One thing I am noticing though is once I hit the button, I'm hearing a crackling noise. I hear it sometimes while I pulling in vapor, too. I think I saw somewhere that it can mean the atomizer is being flooded, so I'm wondering about how many drops I should put in my cartridge when I refill it? It came empty and on the initial fill I used about 15 drops and it was pooling at the top. Took a few drags, went to school, came back, and took a few more drags. It seemed like the vapor was less so I refilled the cartridge, but only 7 drops this time... Do you think I'm overloading the cartridge and/or flooding the atomizer? I didn't think it would be too much of an issue since they say to drop some e-juice on the atomizer anyway...

Yeah, I just stopped hearing it and the flavor seems to have lessened a bit. Not burnt tasting but not as flavorful, you know? I'm getting the hang of this thing and I'm really liking it. I've only had about 4 analogs so far today and that was while I was away from home. Can't wait 'til my PCC comes so I can vape on the go.... And I might want to get a couple more batteries, maybe some cartos, couple more e-juice flavors, and another charger (sucks I can only charge one batt at a time).... I know y'all can see where this is going!

I think this is the beginning of a sweet, sweet relationship.

Exactly my feeling after 6 days vaping!

I love that crackling sound as well. Cleaned my atomizers for the first time today (there are loads of methods, see the Maintenance forum - I used a hot water soak with a bit of lemon juice, blowthrough, then dry on a cloth on top of a radiator). I couldn't believe the effect of a clean atomizer! The crackle is back, and the flavour is blowing the lid off my brain!

Happy vaping! :vapor:

I was just about to post the same exact question!

Thanks!

Gurgling can be caused if there is juice in the center air flow area or if it is over-filled. Usually if you hold the threaded end of the carto up to a tissue and blow into the mouthpiece end lightly the excess juice will come out and clear that hole. You should get about 20 drops in a new regular sized carto. Fill it, let it rest a bit to soak in then add more if it looks less than moist at the top of the filler. =)

Good luck and happy vaping!

Edit: if you are using a cartridge and atty then they do tend to need filling often. Sorry I thought you meant a cartomizer. =) The cartridges usually hold about 9-12 drops. There are a few easy modifications you can try and plenty of videos that show how to do it =) Some folks use a foam fill (cut from blue aquarium filter foam) and some use tea bags (a specific kind) and there are a few other ones out there. More than 2-3 drops directly on an atty will cause gurgle and leakage. Personally I tried them all and decided to go with cartomizers =) Much less hassle and fill less often.
