Hey, guys just got a new mod with TC (Odin DNA250c) and have been trying to figure out TC but have not had much luck yet, I'm getting a metallic taste on my tongue and a general issue trying to get a good vape with TC (still haven't experienced good flavors yet), sometimes I'm getting way too much power flowing through and sometimes too little, I was using 26g 316L SS about 11 wraps around 4mm ID aiming for .5ohm dual coil. Not sure if I'm missing a step somewhere, I was wondering if there is a step-by-step guide on how to set up TC with SS wire on the DNA250c? I think I'm getting hung up on locking ohm reading etc, I couldn't find much info online and the few things I found were pretty complicated and hard to understand. I heard the dna chips are good for TC and I would like to experience it!

There are others here way more experienced about this than me, but

Tip 1: it's useful to have the Evolv DNA software on your PC, to setup the DNA as you like. For me, I needed to turn the "boost" setting down quite a bit to get a cooler vape and less hot initial hit. I found it much easier to tweak the settings, test, then tweak again while using software to get TC correct than to use the buttons and tiny screen. When done, set a profile and that's that!

Tip 2: Make sure to put your deck on the mod, with your new coil installed and preburn to make sure the power is flowing evenly. You may have seen some videos where folks will run a non conductive tweezer or similar lightly over the coil, which magically makes all the coils
glow evenly. This avoids hot spots that can make for some odd tastes and (seemingly) power delivery.

Tip 3: Make sure the ohm reading on your mod is correct. I use an ohm meter to test my coils after they've been heated (in the step above). I've had mods with ohm readings that are just off by a mile. They usually go back for replacement.

Also, I've had some cheap 316L wire that wasn't really 316L. Stick to good, known suppliers like WireOptim, Geek Vape, etc... Those are just the ones I've used, no connection to them.

Just some of what I've hit, and hope you find that happy vape place!

Hi mate,
I don't use TC any longer but when I did:
Because you are using 316SS the build will work in wattage mode just fine.
Get the build running well in wattage mode and then switch over to TC starting at the same watts and perhaps 420f as a temp. No curves, no whistles, no bells...just get it running A to B, adjusting temperature or wattage as needed.
I preferred to have my build and settings balanced so that I could make a full pull without the TC limiter (temp or watts) kicking in... YMMV.

Have fun
I

Ended up figuring out, using 26g 316l spaced coils at .5ohm, dry burning without going past dull red, waiting for the coils to cool down and getting a reading with my ohm meter, and then updating 316 profile with escibe with the cold ohm reading and locking it in. getting a nice flavorful cloudy vape now with no dry hits!

Per Evolv, you Do Not want to lock the resistance on a DNA mod. Somewhere on ECF there is a really good explanation why. Think it's in the DNA 75 thread, not sure, I'll have to look around.

Go to the Evolv website, hit the forum there. There are many super knowledgeable people there, a few of whom post here daily. People are very helpful there and there is much info on tweaking your setup via eScribe.

Cool! :thumb: But don't lock the resistance on a DNA mod.

Right, with SS wire you never want to dry burn beyond a faint dull orange.

Yeah that thread is pretty interesting, now im even more confused lol the vape im getting now isnt the best but the coils are not burning the cotton so i thought it was a success but maybe im still doing things wrong by locking my device. Hopefully, an expert can come chime in, im pretty confused at this point.

FWIW, I run TC on 5 of the 8 mods in my current rotation. Of those three are DNA mods. The other two are an Aegis Solo and an old Eleaf Pico 75w mod running Arctic Fox firmware. I don't lock resistance on any of them and get excellent TC performance.
What are you coil builds? what material?

Hopefully @BillW50, @dwcraig1 or @mikepetro will chime in. Those guys know their DNA stuff well. I know Bill and DW are regular contributors at the Evolv forum.

Also, posting your questions at the Evolv forum will get several responses.

I mainly use 26/36 ss316L clapton wire at 0.45Ω. Currently have that build installed in a Dvarw DL FL and a SvoeMesto Kayfun lite 2019. Also have a Squape Arise setup with simple round 26g 316L at 0.65Ω.

My wire is from Wireoptim and AVS. Both sell high quality wire. I run 316L in all my atty's.

I switch off between rayon (Tidi balls) and cotton (Mavaton's Select).

Are you familiar with Steam Engine? Your coils sounded a little heavy to me so I checked them there. It agrees that the heat capacity is well above what usually works well for vaping, which means that the coils would be slow to respond to the power changes that TC uses to regulate temperature. You might get a better experience if you redesign your coils.

I've been really impressed with DNA's TC. If you're not getting the best vape out of it, could you explain what isn't working for you? Too hot, too cold, too slow to get to the temp you want, not staying at the temp you want?

How would I do that? Like which section would that me?
You need to install the software on your PC or Mac. The software can be found on the Evolv website in the forum.

EScribe Suite 2.0 SP30.1
For US-based customers (Windows): https://downloads.evolvapor.com/SetupEScribe2_SP30_1_US_ServicePack.exe
For US-based customers (Mac): https://downloads.evolvapor.com/SetupEScribe2_SP30_1_US.pkg
For international customers (Windows): https://downloads.evolvapor.com/SetupEScribe2_SP30_1_INT_ServicePack.exe
For international customers (Mac): https://downloads.evolvapor.com/SetupEScribe2_SP30_1_INT.pkg
For customers using Linux, see the beta thread.

Once you have the software installed, connect your Odin DNA 250C to your system, launch the eScribe application.

There are excellent instructions for learning how to use eScribe at the Evolv forum. I would highly recommend visiting the forum, creating a login and posting any questions over there. You will get many more responses than you will here.

With the eScribe software you can easily tweak your mod to satisfy your needs. Use the device monitor to see how your mod + atty are performing in real time.

Usually, my problem is too slow and too cold, i have to crank the temp up to 600F to get anything to come out

You shouldn't have to run anywhere near 600F.

The Dovpo College DNA 60 I'm vaping now is running in Power Dominant TC mode at 24w with a one second 35w boost and temp at 430F. Atty is a KFL19 with a 26/36 ss316L clapton at 0.45Ω. I've never had to go over 440F in TC.
