I used steel music wire for my 3/32nd rod. I used my Torch to soften it up before making the bend. I will say that the same music wire broke when trying to do it without the Torch. It's working great and allows all the tension I can apply for a nice tight coil. Perfect for the thicker RXW.

If your bending thicker rod you'll probably need a Torch to do it. I found the thicker stuff at Lowes.

Lemme see if I have a pic...

Here we go... excuse the mess:

More recent shot of the rod I was actually talking about.

Bent almost identically to my current coathangar 2.25mm rod. By moving the thumb screw hold down closer to the center of the mandrel it greatly improves the straightness of that starter leg. <-- IMHO!

OK, so after reading, researching, and finally getting some wire, I'm giving these a shot. ATM all I can get my hands on is the wire my B&M sells, that's per foot. What I did was pound a nail in my work bench, twisted one end of my wire to it, and did the precision screwdriver/electrical tape trick. Just pulling down enough to get the coils to snap together seems to do the trick! Many thanks for this technique.
