Salem & Sdh - As someone who fully recovered from periodontal disease & surgery...I will tell you this; Tea tree oil works wonders rubbed into the gums. It kills bacteria & soothes. Also, you need a toothbrush that really massages your gums.
Back when I had pocket troubles, I used an interplak (they don't make them anymore) - but I was able to reduce pockets from 6's to 2's in one month. It was a miracle! Nowadays there is another new brush made back east...Rotadent?? mabe?
But, massage & bacteria killing will help reduce the need for further surgeries. 10 years ago, when I had these issues, there were 5 other people in my office who also had perio problems. All of us used the interplak for massage & tea tree oil, and everybody had great improvements. After my first quadrants surgery, I vowed "never again"...and knock on wood..haven't had too!
