Hey I just read in another thread they are evacuating some parts of New York city....I didn't realize this hurricane was that strong! I guess I should watch the news...but I get all the latest news on this forum....
Yep, I have been talking to a guy here in NYC see the Hurricane Irene Thread at VJ
I don't think that it is all that strong BUT it is going to move slowly so being pounded for 10-24 hours with hurricane force winds and rain is going to be very serious

hmmm. Last I heard it was a cat 2 storm but I guess they are worried about flooding in NYC. I did hear they were planning to shut down the subway system at noon Saturday. That's the first time that has ever happened for a weather-related event.
Man, I've lived through hurricanes my whole life, never seen people react like that.
I have too! You have to be preapred for the worst and hope for the best. As soon as you let your guard down you are in big trouble
You know its those really old folks that have a early bedtime! They get up at the crack of dawn to go out to Cracker Barrel, Hardee's or MickeyD's to eat breakfast then go back home to nap until noon.
The thing about Irene is she will be moving over such densely populated areas. She is going to ride the coast and stay out over the warm ocean waters which will help her to keep her strength much longer
I'm a little disappointed that we aren't going to get any effects from it. DH said we only have a 30% chance of rain tomorrow. I thought for sure we would get some good rain from Irene!
