For me to get onto the Lake Mich i had to go down the Calumet river and through the O'brian locks which were a PITA.
Caue a lot of barges traveled through as well.
So one eve i take this girl out just me and her and we go throught the locks she was a pretty little bity thing blonde hair and real cute.

So were waiting outside the lock gates and finally the horn sounds meaning there gonna open the gates then we drive in and tie up cause there gonna raise the water level in that space , then another horn sounds and the lock master opens the other gates to let ya out.
So we go through that process and me and her are having a good ole time drinking and smoking and all.

20 minutes later we make it to the break wall and once through there it opens real pretty into lake mich.
We keep going and the sun is getting real low in the sky and the lake was like glass flat as can be no waves.
So we keep going until there are no more building to be seen not even the tallest ones in the city .
At that point your or we i should say are about 15 to 17 miles out . We put on our life jackets and with ropes we jump off the side the water is only about 75 feet deep cause were at the south end of the lake which is the shallow est part of the great lakes.
Me and her had a great time get back in the boat go into the cabin and dry off played kissy face and all you know one thing leads to another and them bunks came in handy after all it slept 4 people and had a stand up head stove and everything.
so its

so afterwards we kept partying and by the time we knew it was 2 am so we started heading back. We get to dead mans curve which is a narrow S curve on the river and i see it lighting up . Now i been through it many a times even at night and new that the locks must have opened in the last 30 to 45 minutes cause them barges dont go fast.
What bad about the S curve is once a barge or a bunch of boats are going through in a 1 way direction you cant go through that curve the other way or you risk gettting slammed again the wall cause the S curve portion has no shoreline just cement walls lining it so the wake from the boats do not disispate like on a natural shoreline but hit the walls and come back out real nasty.
Either way try to go through that S curve with just 1 barge is bad cause his thrusters will suck your boat towards him and i once had the bejesus scard outta me once when i first navigated that curve the first time.

Anyhow i turned

the boat around and waited it was kinda neat as that area lights up with the barges bright spotlights kinda like a creep movie this late at night so he passes up on the straight part where i was waiting then i proceed thru that S curve which was still a little turbulent i recall and that gal was holding onto to ...lol she was a little shell shocked her first time being out but happy non the less after all we had a good time out on the lake.

We finally get to the gate and i wait for the horn cause the locks are empty but the gates are closed of course until they need to open. So im waiting and waiting and finally call him on the radio i had a nice radio that i used to talk with the other boats and even some of the barges once in a while but they did not like us too much they called us Bee's cause we were always buzzing around them.

Anyways nothing no answer now it real late and were partied out getting tired and still had a long drive home once we got to the marina.

I said to Becky im gonna have to climb that there fence cause i got a funny feeling the lock master feel asleep it never takes this long to open them gates when theres no boats in the locks to begin with.
So i tied the boat to the hook in the wall went on my roof and got to the fence and climbed it , its a good 6 fott chainlink fence with a whole bunch of signs that says keep out.
But
