Okay, I'm relatively new to vaping...analog free for almost two weeks. If it weren't for a great forum like this place here, I probably wouldn't have made it this far. I probably would have gotten frustrated and would have picked up at least a few packs of cigs with my eCig kit collecting dust. Or, I would have dropped wayyyyyyyyyy more money than I already did on buying useless equipment that wouldn't have fit my style of vaping.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all the welcoming folks who have replied to the threads I've been involved with and the threads I've been able to just read and learn as a fly on the wall. I think we all know how daunting it was when we took our first steps into the vapors. I've been re-assuring myself and my wife (who is really concerned with safety) about the new studies that have been coming out and indicating that vaping could in fact be safer (VaporCast episode #70 "Rants" has a good take / recant of a FDA study). I think as responsible vape-heads, we should be encouraging of more study and we should keep reading up on discoveries. I've come across some great flavors so far and would love to keep doing this hobby even after I attempt to taper myself off nicotine completely.

Final question or prompt to folks out there. After giving up the analog cigs in favor of vaping, did the smell of real cigarettes still seem really tempting to you? If so, how long did this last?

Thanks again all!

Welcome & congrats on making the switch to vaping! This is really a wonderful place! Like you I was lucky enough to find ECF before I made any bad purchases! I'm so glad I did!

After I quit & my sense of smell came in I realized how much they really stank!! I didn't have any desire to have one! A couple weeks into vaping I decided to try a cig to see if I was still tempted. It was disgusting! I could only get 2 drags before I wanted to gag & I only took the second because I'd bummed it off of a friend & didn't want them to see me smash it into the cement! I could believe I used to smoke them or smell like that. Ill still step out with friends to vape while they smoke but I'm always sure to stand down wind because it reeks!! And I never comment on how bad it smells because I realize that was me once upon a time & I had no clue either.

I switched to vaping just four months ago. Occasionally, I still catch myself thinking "Time for a smoke", but the thought comes from some primitive, barely conscious part of my mind. It surprises me when it happens, because my PV is always within reach, I enjoy it much, MUCH more, and there is absolutely nothing about smoking that still appeals to me, consciously. I don't miss the taste of burning tobacco, the stink of it, the dirty ashtrays, the little burn holes that appeared in my clothes and furniture, the constant cough and shortness of breath ... nothing. The tiny callous on my right thumb from flicking a lighter is finally gone, too.

But after more than 35 years, it's like there's a rut worn in my "coping", somewhere way in the back of my mind. I have a moment of stress, need to concentrate on a challenging problem, flash angry about something and need to cool off, or hit any other of my old habit triggers, and the thought comes all on its own ... "Time for a smoke," and I catch myself looking for the cigarettes that won't ever be there again.

It's happening less and less often, and a short chain-vape session chases it away quite handily. It never happens around someone else who is smoking. The reality of a cigarette isn't what I want at all. It's just a old rut worn down somewhere in my brain.

No, not this time. It makes me choke now. I still have friends that smoke so I try to keep out of the smoke so that won't happen. My big attention grabber is the smell that convenience stores have around them as you approach the doors. Gad! Did I smell like that at one time?

This post was musing I had after stopping at a convenience store and walking through a big cloud of analog smoke as I exited, and even after not having an analog for about two weeks, the fact that it still smelled kind of appealing to me caught me off guard. But, I hopped in my car and carried on with my cola vaping goodness!

I've been reading these forums for almost four years now, and I've can give you my estimate based on what I've seen...

--Nobody that I am aware of likes the smell of stale smoke
--About 10% still like the smell of a burning cigarette
--Another 5% don't mind the smell so much, but don't really like it either
--Around 85% soon begin to think that cigarette smoke absolutely reeks

The transition into the 85% usually happens in less than a week of being completely off cigarettes.
So you might wind up being one of the people somewhere in the other 15% perhaps.
