to avoid confusion.. we sent out some dud batteries over a two or three week time period.. perhaps %10 of the total shipped over this period.. most folks who use our support forum knew about this and put the matter right quickly..

those who didnt came to the wrong conclusion.. we do provide the support forum for a reason.. it is part of what an SD buyer pays for..

so lets not add to the confusion in this place..

there are no "better" batteries.. just ones that work as they should do.. defective ones are defective ones.. we unknowingly sent some out.. mouse quite clearly had some..

ps... we now subject all the batteries we ship to a short heavy 2.5 amp load test before shipping.. this soon sorts out any duds..

it seem to be the ones with 1000 mah on them that caused the problems.. any spiderfire ones we have shipped seem to be okay.. for the last couple of weeks we have shipped spiderfires..

Well, trog... I was one to have the dud batteries and had to wait patiently(?) for over 2 weeks for new batteries to arrive before I could experience the power of the SD.

When I ordered the SD I received no follow up email from you stating it had been shipped or to visit your forum or by the way... you might want to order extra batteries.

IF I had that courtesy email from you, I would HAVE known to buy extra batteries while waiting for the arrival of the SD.

I'm not trying to rant here - LUV my SD - all I'm saying is that frustration I experienced while waiting 2 weeks for new batteries to arrive while sadly looking at my SD just sitting there useless could have been avoided

we didnt know about the problem until reports came in.. allowing for shipping time to the US and us reaching the dud batch of batteries conclusion we are talking nearly a month.... we cant report about things we dont know about.. you must have visited our website and the forum to buy the device.. you didnt read our shipping information which clearly states we dont send out shipping notifications and we do ship the next working day after the order is taken.. what more is needed.. ???

soo the situation could not be avoided.. we also try and make it very clear folks should buy in (very cheap) chinese spares before they need them..

and our instructions again include the support forum link ..

the problem here is the long time SDs can take to reach the US and the long time spares can take to arrive.. and the long time it took for the feedback about the dud batteries to reach us and conclusions to be reached..

we always have tested all batteries before shipping.. these duds passed our test.. they seem okay but just wont pass enough current to power the SD properly.. so in one sense they were not totally dud just half dud.. which is why they escaped..

we have now changed our testing methods so no more duds should be sent out.. we hit them all with a heavy 2.5 amp load for a brief while.. if they dont hold it for ten seconds they go in the bin..

basically we cant guaranty a cheap chinese part isnt going to fail.. spares will be needed at some time so its best to buy them in right at the beginning..

the batteries problem is over now.. but buying some cheap chinese spares is still a good idea.. in fact its an essential idea for far away customers.. which for some odd reason most of our customers seem to be.. he he..

and emails both the sending out and the answering all take up time.. one hell of a lot to be honest.. when we say we ship the product the next day working day.. sending emails out to say the same thing is simply a wast of time.. at least we think it is which is why we dont do it..

basically we can make sure its all working before shipping.. what we have no control over is it failing a few days later..

most of these chinese parts work for a long time.. for what they cost they are extremely good value for money... shipping from china is also super reliable but iit can take two weeks.. the secret is a simple one.. buy before you need the part and buy more than one.. takes advantage of the cheap chinese price.. buy a couple extra and well in advance..

mouse bought his second hand i think.. which isnt a problem.. but it seems he did buy one with some dud batteries..

i recently stopped one SD from going in the buy and swap forum (again some one who hasnt read our support forum) by telling him he likely has some dud batteries... waiting until his spares arrived and see..

what threw us off the right track (and him) with these batteries was folks saying they had two duds.. we blamed the charger.. two duds in the same packet not being thought likely.. but we now know differently... one person getting two duds was the case in some instances.. when you get just one dud its obvious.. when you get two duds you think the problem is elsewhere.

so sorry for any frustrations but what happened really could not be avoided.. by the time we were aware of the dud battery issue we were no longer shipping them...

Just to be clear. All that happened is mouse stopped by my house on his way through Illinois and I gave him 3 of the spiderfire batts which are exactly the same as trog ships with the SD. I have 6 of them and gave 3 of them to mouse. There is no new and improved battery, just replaced some duds that mouse had..................

Yeah Trog sorry for any confusion. I purchased the SD off the forum 2 weeks ago. Worked great the first day but batteries wouldn't hold a charge after that.

For the past 2 weeks had been buying batteries from lowes. They are unrechargeable and arent as "strong" as spiderfires. I was in Illinois and seen that was passing by Elendil. I contacted him and arranged to pick up a few batteries to last me until my order comes in.

Can DEFINATELY say spiderfires work ALOT better than cr123's from lowes and ALOT cheaper!!
