I received my DIY Master Artisans kit today :) Thanks for the extra pipettes, bottles, dropper top, and Ethyl Motal, very much appreciated! And a nice thank you note on my invoice to boot. After hours of reading this forum, many texts, and with the provided instruction sheet in hand I whipped up and instant classic!!
My atty, nostrils, throat and lungs will not soon forget the pain I inflicted upon them! It was so bad, I think I might have even damaged my ego battery ;-) Alas, I was able to create 3ml of my own little hell, I like to call it RY666. I think I will do what all the juice vender's tell us to do when we get a flavor we don't like, I will set it out with the lid off for the next several years to steep.

Tomorrow I will start all over, a little wiser and with a new found respect for the people that make all the juice that I have enjoyed up to now.

J ~

Thanks, I will as soon as I can produce something that I am sure won't kill the dog.

Try the RY4 flavor from OSDIY. It is from Flavor Apprentice. Not bad on its own but I have found that adding 1% of caramel and .5% sweetner makes it a really good vape. I mix at 80pg/20vg.

Here is what I mix
Flavor Apprentice RY4 6%
Lorann Caramel 1%
Sweetner (ethyl malto in solution) .5%

It's been a couple of months since I started that journey. The best RY4 I have made was the simplest and is using Totally Wicked Ruyan5 concentrate at 15% and 1% and TPA's Caramel at 1%.
I have found that everybody's idea of the best RY4 is whatever the first RY4 they tried was, and this mix is exactly what I remember RY4 to be.

Thanks,
Jeff~

This comes out to 7.5%? How do you mix this with your base? It sounds like a great mix and would love to try it, I am just not sure how to addapt this to the calculator.

Yes that is correct I like my flavors a little light you can always dial it up to your liking, anyway:

I will provide mls, drops and %. Please note that drops vary by dropper, viscosity, etc.

10ml batch with 78pg/22vg base at 12mg/ml:

Base - 9.17mls, 183 drops or 91.7%
FA RY4 - 0.6ml, 12 drops or 6%
Caramel - 0.1ml, 2 drops or 1%
Sweetner - 0.05ml, 1 drop or 0.5%

Hope this helps and click on Breaktrus caculator in his signature above for the software I use religously for my DIY sauces.

Just got first first order of flavorings from OSDIYS. They shipped very fast and tossed in similar extras as the OP stated. I made a tobacco juice, but it's pretty flavorless right now. Steeping it for a bit. That may help, or my taste buds may still just be fried from smoking analogs, or I may just need to add more.

OK, after doing some more trials, I found I don't really like the tobacco flavor I got (I think it was the "Tobacco Blend PG" but I'll double-check when I get home). I'm looking for a sweeter tobacco flavor. Honestly, maybe I'm doing something wrong; it tastes a little like hose water...a sort of plastic taste. I've tried more flavor, less flavor, more alcohol, less alcohol (I use it in all my juice for TH), and cutting it with other flavors. It always has that strange flavor to it.

My friend has some virginia flue cured, and I can't remember where it's from. Does anyone know if any of the Flavor Apprentice tobacco flavors have any sweeter notes? I do like the double chocolate I got. In fact, I've been cutting the tobacco with the chocolate to get a much sweeter taste. I'm also still looking for a flavor that tastes like the old Camel Izmir Stinger cigarettes, so I'm going to try picking up some raspberry to see if I can get anywhere near that. But that's really neither here nor there.

So, I'd like a better base tobacco flavor to build on. Does anyone know what I'm talking about when I say it tastes like plastic? What have I done wrong? Did I maybe get a bad batch or something?

Of course I don't fault OSDIYS. It's either my fault, or just a random bad batch, or I just don't personally like the flavor. I will be ordering more from them in the near future.

Try FlavourArt Virginia or Camtel tobacco flavoring for making your base.

Use at least 5% and let it age for at least a week. (the Camtel seems to need more time)

Thanks for the tip!

Wow, I use a lot more than 5% (up to 20%) and I have yet to let anything age a week - usually just a few days. That could very well be part of my problem.

How is the Camtel? Is it anything like Camel cigarettes? I smoked camels when I smoked (before I started rolling my own), but I've read varying reviews of various camel flavors. People often say they don't taste like camel, and I've heard many different takes on the flavor, such as coconut. As such, I've been hesitant to try any of them. Especially if they taste like coconut - yuck. I don't mind if it doesn't taste like the 4000+ burning chemicals in a camel, but how good is it?

I am a bit of a cheapskate, but right now I'm just broke. I'm hoping to find something very budget-conscious that I can use as a primary vape. Something I can use as a base for other flavors or vape on its own if I'm feeling lazy. I'll have to figure out what flavor my friend had, and which one I got from OSDIYS (the more I think of it, the more I'm thinking it was DK tobacco I got). I do know it was one of their "Flavor Apprentice Professional Flavors." Is the Flavour Art flavor much more concentrated, such that I'll use something like 1/4 the amount?

I suppose I need to try either way for myself. Can anyone compare either their virginia or camtel to any other flavors I may be familiar with, like food, or specific cigarettes, or something? Maybe I'll try both on my next order. I just try to keep the orders to a minimum and hope for the best.

Thanks again!

Sorry to hear about your bad experience mauzey. It will get better!

As to the RY4....there are several recipes in the recipes section. Try something like:

3 parts tobacco flavor
1 part Bavarian Cream
1 part caramel
just a touch of peanut butter
Possibly some vanilla depending on the Bavarian Cream flavor.

I use Lorann's caramel ... it really tastes like caramel, best I've found so far... but it will clog the hell out of your atty, so rinse/blow-out often. And it has caramel color in it...... for these reasons I don't use it that often.

Tweak to taste. That's one version of an RY4 flavoring. The thing is... "RY4" has changed, and the flavor is different from every vendor! LOL. Good luck!

My version of RY4 (to taste like my favorite juice supplier's RY4) is FlavourArt's Dark Vapure, Cuban Supreme, Caramel, and Vanilla Classic. Dark Vapure and Cuban Supreme are the tobacco flavorings, I believe, but they don't taste like tobacco to me. The best and cheapest place to buy FlavourArt flavorings is ecigexpress.com, because they sell 30mL bottles for the lowest prices I've found.

Edited to add Cuban Supreme. I believe there's a certain amount of that in the RY4 mixture, but I haven't determined the percentages yet.
