5 steps. Yes.
and No 6 is hopefully : taking action to keep these items available to yourself, your family, your friends, your colleagues, your acquaintances, your old schoomates - and the many people who smoke tobacco and who have not - as yet - been as lucky as we are.

Hey DC2

Brilliantly right!

I found out about e-cigs from a guy I met for a coffee date... I had always thought e-cigs were just something people used if on a long plane journey and they couldn't smoke... I had no idea... He told me he met a lady in the hospital when he had surgery who gave up smoking with the e-cigs... so.. I gave it a whirl and here I am! smoke free and loving it.

btw... I never saw the coffee date guy again.. he turned up in his trackie dacks.. sheesh.. put on a pair of jeans at least.. hehe

Koala hugs from Australia.

What are these electronic cigarette things?
Can they possibly work?

Elation
Wow, I've actually quit smoking!
Hey, these freaking things are awesome!!

Confusion
Why does everyone hate electronic cigarettes?
Why does everyone think I should stop using them?
What's with all these terrible media stories?

Anger
Why is the government full of damn liars and idiots?
How can they possibly care more about money than my freaking life?
Since when did the media become so extremely full of crap?
How long has this country actually been like this without me even knowing it?

Disillusionment
Why is the public so easily led astray?
Why do they believe everything they read?
Why aren't more people doing more to stop all of this nonsense?

Let's just hope there is a 6th stage of vaping we haven't gotten to yet.
That's the one where truth triumphs over the evil and the lies, and we are finally left in peace.
:)

I think that the sixth stage has to include:
countering the lies when you can,
communicating with your legislators at all levels of government,
and joining and supporting CASAA.

Determination
They're not going to take this away from me, dammit!
Doing my own research to find out the truth.

Commitment, Activism (h/t amoret)
Joining CASAA.
Being an assertive but respectful ambassador of vaping.
Sending the truth to my elected reps.
Finding out where my elected reps stand on vaping, and why.
Posting rebuttal comment to every inaccurate, misleading article I see.
Explaining vaping to every person who asks about it.

Yes indeed!

That all comes shortly after Anger.

You got it all wrong, the 5 steps of vaping are:

1. Hearing of vaping while being a smoking idiot.

2. Deciding to give Vaping a try. Just as long as the e-cig looks and feels like an actual analog.

3. Deciding that the cigalike is not good enough and buying an ego-c.

4. Deciding ego is not good enough, buying a regulated mod.

5. Deciding a regulated mod is not good enough, buying a mech mod.

I'd go along with all that, except the mech mod; although, I never went for an eGo of any kind except as a cheap backup, went from cigalikes to an iTaste vv3. But what on earth would I want with a mech mod? No way to vary the voltage or wattage, no ohms checker, no battery voltage checker, nothing at all except a pretty battery tube... which means nothing at all to protect me, if one of my coils or batteries go nuts, and I end up blowing off some portion of my anatomy.

After the regulated mod, I think the next logical step is rebuilding the coils on your kanger tanks, then deciding THOSE aren't good enough, and getting a rebuildable, like a kayfun, which is when vaping REALLY gets good. :D

Unfortunately this country, and the rest of the civilized world, has been heading this way for a long time. Corporate oligarchy is the word of the day. And people being led astray? Some people will believe everything they hear, or see on tv. Yet, they won't trust the testimony of those of us that actually have first hand knowledge and experience, in some cases their own sons and daughters. A lot of it can be attributed to Edward Louis Bernays, Freud's brother in law, who theorized that the general public was merely animalistic and impulsive and needed to be manipulated into doing what was best for them. His ideas were implemented by governments and corporations alike.

Edward Louis Bernays (November 22, 1891 − March 9, 1995) was an Austrian-American pioneer in the field of public relations and propaganda, referred to in his obituary as "the father of public relations".[1] He combined the ideas of Gustave Le Bon and Wilfred Trotter on crowd psychology with the psychoanalytical ideas of his uncle, Sigmund Freud.

He felt this manipulation was necessary in society, which he regarded as irrational and dangerous as a result of the "herd instinct" that Trotter had described.[2] Adam Curtis's award-winning 2002 documentary for the BBC, The Century of the Self, pinpoints Bernays as the originator of modern public relations, and Bernays was named one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century by Life magazine.[3]

It's like this. This country isn't about to change until the government changes. The government isn't going to change as long as people are in the mindset to vote for someone merely because that person is democrat, republican, their race, gender, or because that's who their friend or favorite actor is voting for. When people smarten up and vote for the person most qualified to do the job whether it's the popular thing to do or not. I don't look for anything to change anytime soon though.

Excellent, dear
You have described my vaping "journey" precisely.

And this here is what many people have experienced in the German vapers forum as well:

Most of us knew that the government and the media are lying to us. But to what extent they are lying to us - feeding us the precise opposite of the truth - now that was indeed a revelation. And the complete and utter disillusionment is not only with regard to the public - who are deliberately manipulated - but also with regard to those who spoon-feed us deliberate lies. Also the lies about "democracy" and about "the people" having any kind of "power". Nothing could be further from the truth.

Once you have reached this stage, the change is irreversible.

All we in Europe can do is work to educate our own environment, write to our representatives - and hope that somebody will take all this crap to court. I would most definitely chip in to support a court case. By a representative of the people, against Big Money and Big Greed. In my home country, the courts have reversed / stopped nonsensical policies several times. In my home country, the courts go by the (codified) law and pass their verdicts in accordance with facts. Thankfully.

You have described the 5 stages of vaping very well indeed

.. and in case anybody wonders why some vapers appear cold, disillusioned, sarcastic when it comes to politicians and their "for the chiiildren", to "public health" figures and to their lies ("public death" would be more like it) .. well, that is easy: those people have gone through all 5 stages already...

Actually, for me, it is being stuck on the fifth level forever that REALLY sucks...

Sometimes, after seeing the huge malice of people who attack our choice knowing all to well we did the right thing for ourselves, but the wrong thing for them alone, and the sheer stupidity of those who blindly believe every single word they read, I feel like... "Please stop the world. I want to step down. I don't want to live on this planet anymore... nothing to do here". o_O

Since when did protecting the children become such a powerful political tool?

I believe it started in the late 60's or early seventies. I believe it was a republican oriented tool in opposite to the emerging gay rights movement at that time. Of course this is not fact and I always accept dissenting views. Then again, the republicans and democrats of the 60s and 70s are vastly different than the 2 parties today.

I don't need the government to protect my children. I can do that on my own. By the time the government figures out to get their thumb out of their .... and do something... it is too late anyway. 8 years of No Child Left Behind... Now Common Core. Don;t even get me started on the State's Department of Job and Family Services. Give me a break... I really feel the government sometimes just makes stuff up so that they can spend more money. "The Bridge to Nowhere (320 million taxpayer $ to fund a bridge to join 8,900 people to an airport on an island with 50 people).

Also very interested to see what step 6 will be.
