Idiot does not refer to an uninformed person in this, it refers to smoking in general.
Aah, DC2, informed & astute, as always.
Recently, a young coworker of mine asked me as she lit a cigarette, "You do know, don't you, that e-cigs are not approved by the FDA?"

When families became "2-income families" and strangers started looking after the kids. It's guilt, because they know they aren't doing right by their children, so they have to puff up this grand scheme to PROTECT THE CHILDREN.
Everyone thought I was weird and backward because I wanted to be a stay at home mom and raise my own son myself, instead of farming him out to strangers.

I'll add my sixth step:
Acceptance
Be comfortable with who you are with your vaping and don't let nay-sayers get you down. Most of all realize that there is a strong corporate interest in regulation and they'll trash it in the media or however else they can. I see this with fools that believe the hyped newscasts and tell me that vaping is worse than cigarettes. Some will listen to reason but I won't even bother with most because they are brainwashed and can't think for themselves ( while they puff on their marlboro and tell me how i'm smoking antifreeze ). Obiously that's true but they aren't educated enough to understand that it's not ethylene glycol. Surely I would be blind or dead by now. Enough ranting. I suppose the best defense is activism but most of all.....................
Hoard as many liter bottles of 100mg nicotine in your freezer as possible in case the SHTF. They wont regulate Kanthal wire or flavorings so don't worry about those.

Of course it was one of the great rallying cries of the Temperance Movement as well, which started in the early 19th century.
For the most part though, I'd say it's probably been a tool of yah hoos since the whole concept of voting came about, which was after the Age of Tyrants in the Greek city-state of Athens around the end of the 6th century BCE. Aristophanes mentions it in Lysistrata, IIRC. The women refused to have sex with their husbands to try to stop the war and 'save the children'. It's old.
It always makes me sad and glad at the same time seeing people learning this stuff. Sad because it's often such a harsh shock and glad because they are now fellow travelers. <sigh> I've been a libertarian since high school, despite it freaking out my parents. Now my mother, who is nearing 70, is starting to quote me back things I said a decade and more ago about freedom.
Heh. I do wonder who's the child and who's the adult there sometimes.
