I bought my straws at Walmart. They are exactly 2 mm in width. The description says:
SIP-STIRS
For Beverages of All Kinds
100 STIRRER STRAWS
5 1/4" LONG
"A Party's Best Friend"
Packed by SOODHALTER PLASTICS INC.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA 90021
I've tried several blue foam mods and they never seemed to work really well. I've always used PTB in my recent endeavors. HOWEVER, for some really odd reason, this one works really well. It's easy to make/refill and seems to be wicking much better than any of the other blue foam mods I've tried (and I've tried a few). It uses more foam than some of the other mods, but most of it goes into the straw so that may be why.
Anyway, I'm going to use this one a while. I'm using PG juice that is fairly thin at the moment, but about to try some VG juice that is a little thicker. If it works well for that, it will be my all-around-mod since it's working well for me. I'm kinda surprised actually. BTW, I have been drying it with a paper towel before putting it back in after a refill as mentioned. That seems to help a lot with the problem I had in the past where the blue foam would eventually bunch up really small and not work well.
I also made a cardboard cutout of the exact size needed for the blue foam and that makes it very easy to replicate.
Here is a picture of the straws.
