At about $.03 a "dart".... who would take the time to clean it?
Surely cleaning it would be much easier than cutting a new one and cleaning that???

As I can't find any slim straws I lashed it with cotten. Seems to work... ish. Needs a bit more messing with though.

I'm thinking that heat shrink may be an option.

The origianl OP of this thread advanced a cartridge modification to share with us. Lets give the OP the respect due and keep this thread on topic for members who will read it in the future.

People sometimes forget that threads stay around long after people are gone and they are entitled to benefit from the knowledge in the future just as all of you are doing now.

When I set up these different catagories in the Modders section, it was to have a compilation of knowlege based threads. So I will be cleaning up this thread later to maintain the integrety of the thread as a reference article for all future members who read it to use and enjoy.

Thank you,

I tried the blue foam mod, all of them! Havent tried this one yet. I am currently using the same straws. I was having a problem with the blue foam leaking when I used PG, works fine with VG. I was shopping in hobby lobby with my wife and found some poly foam. It looks like the blue foam but it is a little thicker and works like a champ! I have searched the forums and only found people trying polyfill and the compressed layer poly. I used those but I wanted a plug I could reuse over and over. The poly foam works for me perfect. I havent been registered on here very long so I dont know if I am able to post pics of what material I am talking about. Does anyone know or tried what I am using (poly foam)? It has no added chemicals. I will try and take pics and post if required. The blue foam was flodding my atty with PG liquid, but I might just try this mod.

I used TW eliquid which is PG based when i first started with my blue foam mod. No leaks with the slug version.. either with PG or VG juice that i use now. Infact i'm using the TW juice atm is i'm runing dry of nhalers juice and waiting for my new order to come in the mail. No leakage..

As others as mentioned before.. if the foam plug leaks with your juice just increase the size of the plug untill it holds the juice better. Increasing the size will compress the cells more making the passages smaller and stop the leaks.. too large and it will clog it up and it wont wick.

Have not heard of the poly-foam and would like to see it.

Here is what it looks like. It works perfect for me. Got my idea from your slug version. I just put a straw under it so it doesnt push down in the cart. I probably would have gave up PV's if it wasnt for ur blue slug mod, so THANX!

For those of us who have calipers in thousandth of inches (thanks eclypse for pointing me in the right direction) these are the dimensions:

Foam Height: .700" (18mm)
Foam Top Width: .6.00" (15mm)
Foam Bottom Width: .480" (12mm)

Stir Stick Diameter: .040" (1mm)
Stir Stick Length: .500" (13mm)

Overall Length: .870" (22mm)

I cut a template in thin cardboard as mentioned by Slyice, cut a strip of the foam .700" then cut and flipped the template to make duplicates. I cut a regular size straw a little under length .500" and measure the length of the stir sticks with it by placing the stir stick inside, on a flat surface, and cutting it off.

Wife is getting great vapor from her 510 and NHaler High Voltage 12mg.

I have tried all the other blue foam mods without much success, but so far this one is a winner, thanks Pete54...

Hey Pete54,
Just wanted to let you know that your mod is still working great.
this is my favorite home using pass-thru cart mod ( I can just sit and chain vape for long periods :))
You folks coming up with these mods is what's making me stick to vaping
( I keep real cigs laying around - not a good idea )
Don't abandon this place, it's yours, if you have any improvements on the BFD, share it here, this is a good one.

I did something similar to this awhile back with a teabag, but it leaked too much, don't why I didn't think to use the foam,...but I'm glad you did pete 'cause it's working good for me right now.

I'm using it in my 801, so I had to super size it, using two pieces of foam, longer and wider, and a bigger straw,...nice, very nice! Well done pete :)

will a macdonalds straw work for this? I'm a bit confused with what straw to use.

also, I bought a bag of "euro wool" aquarium non-toxix filter media. its the white filter. Can this method work with this filter media instead of the blue foam?

lastly, how often do you replace the blue foam? my foam is black so I can't tell if it's burnt or dirty etc...

Again Pete54, thanks for posting this. This is now my "go to" mod for my 510 cart. I had to make a small adjustment for VG, but wondering if it should be it's own thread since this works great for my PG liquid. I don't want to clutter this one up even though it's basically the same exact thing with different sizes and is only used with my VG liquids.

- Use 15mm straw / this would only work on 510 I think because of the atty bridge location .. I guess you could modify it to other attys
- Use 3/4 the size of the foam (cut small piece from the small side .. might not "have" to do this)
- Take the rest and roll/push it in like you do in your mod
- Cut the center out of the top after inserting into the straw to leave a "U" shape of foam for the bridge to touch (it actually ends up being a solid piece when you push it in)

This leaves a much smaller blue foam tip in sort of a "T" shape when it's done. It works better for me with thicker VG liquid and so far hasn't leaked. I'm sure it's everyone's preference, but heavy vaping dried out a little with VG which was my original problem with other blue foam mods. Got my BB yesterday (which I love) and notice it more I guess.

Thanks again for making this easy for everyone!! This is definitely my mod of choice.

sorry to be stupid, but i'm guessing the straw is supposed to cover the hole that you suck out of. but if you fill the cartridge before dropping in the straw and foam, isn't the liquid just going to drop out the hole that you suck out of?? and even barring that. there is just a straw and some foam in there, how is this thing not going to leak all over the place?

No stupid questions here. I'm not sure which cart you are using, but if it's the 510, there are actually 3 layers of plastic between the e-juice and the hole where you suck out of. The straw will sit at the bottom of the part that holds the liquid which is actually fully enclosed except where the bridge touches the atty at the top. If you are using some other cart, I'm not familiar with those, but they should all basically work the same way.

okay so that makes more sense. so if I put the liquid in to an empty 510 cart, it won't just leak out then?

I think I will try this as i'm not having much luck with the original filling and straw mod.

If you have an old cart, I suggest breaking it apart to see how it works. Bisect it lengthwise if need-be. Otherwise:

It's always good to have at least a basic knowledge of the way something works before you start trying to modify it.
