Short answer: there's no best. Lots of people will recommend you start at 50/50 and work from there.

Long answer: If you really want to know the ratio that works best for you, buy different ratios of a flavor you know you like (or are fairly certain you'll like). Start with something like 80/20, 50/50, and 20/80. Vape them and get a feel for how the ratio of PG to VG affects the vapor, flavor, and throat hit and see which one you prefer. If you wind up liking 50/50 the best, all you have to do is combine the other two bottles to wind up with more 50/50 juice! Otherwise, those juices make great emergency back-up vapes for when you're waiting on a shipment.

If you get sample sizes or go with a moderately priced vendor the cost won't be too high. Even if it were, you're investing a little bit of money today to find the type of juice you're really going to enjoy down the road.

Just wanted to say congrats! You made your break even date! :toast:

To the OP: some vendors don't give you an option on VG/PG with their samples. Which is how I found my ratio. I tend to like 70/30 and that is pretty standard. Most flavors are PG based, not all but the majority are. VG will give you the vapor, pg will give you the throat hit and flavor. With the 70/30 I still get tons of vapor and a boatload of flavor.

VG = Vegetable Glycerine
PG = Propylene Glycol

VG is generally a lot thicker, PG is more watery. But both have a significantly higher viscosity than water.

You'll have a hard time trying to decide what ratio your juice is without a known reference point, but if you know what brand you're using we can probably make an educated guess on your behalf.

I'm relatively new to vaping overall and when I look into types of juice that I wanna get, many of them have the option to choose what I want my pg/vg ratio to be. What is a good ratio for beginners like myself to start with?

Welcome to the vaping world :). As a beginner, I think you can go with any option until you find which one you like best. Many love 100% VG because for some reason or another they are sensitive to PG. I believe PG gives more flavor and throat hit (TH is the usual acronym here in the forums) and VG gives more vapor in general.

It's really hard to know until try a few. My first juice was butterscotch at 70/30 - and all I did was cough every time I vaped. I'm not sure if it was the 70/30 or if was because it was way, way too sweet for me. But, when I tried again, it was a 50/50 peppermint and it was like the sun, moon and planets all aligned and I never touched another cig (after 18 years of a pack & a half a day). It was so perfect, and so much better than smoking. Now that I'm a month in, I can handle more of the sweet juices (though I still prefer a minty/sweet combo) and I've gone back up to 65/35 (that's what the vendor I use offers) because I want/like more throat hit. So, you'll probably need to experiment but you'll know when you get it right. :) Good luck!
