[h=2]Prohibitionists target a safe alternative because...it looks like smoking?[/h]
H.L. Mencken famously defined puritanism as “the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.” He might have been describing contemporary anti-smoking activists, that dour band of fuss-budgets constantly on the prowl for new ways to make life slightly less bearable by limiting the choices available to grown adults.

Incredibly, the latest push from tobacco eliminationists doesn’t involve actual smoking, which has already been driven out of polite society more thoroughly than Rev. Jeremiah Wright sermons, early David Allan Coe records, and Three’s Company-era gay jokes combined. But it does lay bare the prohibitionist mindset and its fixation on scrubbing the planet clean of any behavior or attitude the crusader deems unacceptable.

This time, the buttinskys are trying to douse the dreaded e-cigarette, a device that supplies a safe nicotine hit to the user without bothering or endangering anybody else.

I wonder what ANTZ are thinking about this article? Haven't heard that lovely sound of ANTZ heads exploding, so I guess they haven't found it yet. Waiting...... :laugh:

Oh they're exploding alright. Follow the link at the bottom to The Daily Beast to where this article was printed a few days ago. Pop some corn first.

Please note that Reason magazine is libertarian (i.e. free markets), and that most ANTZ are politically liberal-left supporters of Big Government regulation of virtually everything (except sex) who don't trust, don't understand, and/or oppose capitalism, corporations, businesses, profits, etc.

Just not true Bill. Keep politics out of it. Left, right, and center, there are all types of people against vaping.

I just spent the last 2 hours reading the comments after reading the article. I agree with Hush, that "Suze" is a piece of work and if you read back far enough "Suze" is also "NoComment". Really steamed me up, almost to the point I wanted to create a user name so I could fire back on the nasty comments she made about vaping and vapers.

ECF is a great support group and has been an awesome resource for facts and information on the only solution I've ever had to help me quit smoking analogs.

Kudos to the group and thank you everyone.

The history of our battle with ecigs does not bear that out. Bill(as always) is ALWAYS right on this topic.

Funny. Can anyone JUST SAY NO!!! I don't recall that gem being uttered from the mouth of a "politically liberal-left supporter of Big Government regulation of virtually everything". Or her husband. Then there was the follow up act, by another member of the very not liberal left: JUST DON'T DO IT!!! And tell me it's the left wing behind certain women's rights - or rather the removal of them.

Conservatives are all about rights - so long as you like the rights they think you should have.

I'm stopping now.

Good move on your part. Bill's point was that it was a libertarian publication, not a conservative one.

Rickaho,we are speaking of the 5 year battle defending e-cigs and fighting to keep them legal. It should not be a partisan issue, but the politicians that have continually put roadblocks in our way have all been progressives in one party--Frank Lautenburg,Sherrod Brown,.... Durbin etc. In fact,Lautenburg was the Senator who requested ecigs be banned on airlines and the FAA honored his request. I will be happy to provide other Progressive names if you wish. I am at a loss to name one libertarian or one conservative in the other party who has worked to demonize and ban ecigs.

Reminds me of the funny video where the guy puts a stocking over his head and walks into various stores. No gun. No knife. Pleasant as could be. Just a weirdo with a stocking over his head. Everyone freaked, assumed he was a robber. Assumptions. That's our predicament in a nutshell. The media has the public so hateful, resentful, scared, full of assumptions about us, that they don't understand that THEY are the ones with the stocking over their heads, with guns drawn, literally trying to rob us of our rights and especially our lives.

As far as I know the only "other party" to work towards "banning" electronic cigarettes in some way was in Utah.
But that doesn't count, for reasons we all understand.
