I made a quad coil for my Mephisto V2 today.

One thing I recalled was that the coil sometimes unwinds when it is heated, If I flip the coil it winds in the other direction.
Much easier to build when the coil winds inwards so the coil contract together when it's heated.

I tried to understand why this is happening, so I always could place the coil in the right direction.
But this seems to be different for each coil I build.

Does anyone have a clue whats going on?
Guess it migth have to do with the tension in the coil.

Before installing I usually compress with needle nose pliers and heat till red hot with a butane torch. Once cooled and installed they pretty much stay in place but may need a slight adjustment (tweezers or needle nose) when I first dry burn before installing the wick. If so, I hit the switch a few times until it (they) glow red and then let off the switch and squeeze as needed.

This is caused by internal stresses in the wire being released when heated. If you torch the wire before wrapping your coil and again after wrapping the coil while squeezing it with tweezers the amount of movement of the wire after it is installed in the atomizer will be minimal.

You should be heating the coils to glowing (dry burning) after installing the coil for final tweaking and adjustment while the coil is still hot. This will stop the coil from moving due to heating during use.

its also is caused by holding the wired tightly all the way through wrapping of the coil, causing the wire to twist as it gets wrapped and creating extra tension in the wire/coil. Its tough to avoid tho, because you need to make sure your wraps are tight around the rod. you can push the wire with your figure closest to the rod, then pull it tight ever half wrap or so. Or theres a tool call kuro coiler that can help with that.
