Did they do any head scans? Major headache vertigo and vomiting doesn't sound good. Hope she gets better soon! I agree ...antibiotics for a viral infection!!?
She went to the Urgent Care, not the ER. We live pretty close to... well... nothing. Its 20 mins to UC, and nearly 45 to ER. So no scans. Just basic labs. They found white blood cell counts high in her urine, but thats all they had to go on.

To play devil's advocate, docs in the ER give antibiotics prophylactically in case there is something bacterial. If they did blood or urine cultures, those can take 24-48 hours to come back. If they're clean, they stop antibiotic therapy. If they come back positive, then at least they got a head start against whatever it was. The catch 22 is that if it is indeed something bacterial, unless they also do sensitivity testing with the culture, then they don't know if the bacteria is even sensitive to the antibiotic they use. I transcribe reports all the time where they empirically treat with antibiotics until the culture and sensitivity comes back.

Goodnight everybody. Thank you for the concern for Mrs E. The sooner I get to bed, the sooner this craptastic day can end.

And my 3 and 4 year olds will be at t-ball practice tomorrow. THAT ought to be interesting. Well, thats the plan as long as the weather holds out. They are calling for rain all day.

Very true Chips. The problem is that many over prescribe antibiotics making people resistant to them.

I agree. I refuse antibiotics when offered unless they do testing first. Thankfully I've not had to worry about that from any of my docs in a good long while. In the past 10 years, I've only taken antibiotics prophylactically due to having surgical procedures.

Off to order Morgan a frappuccino before heading off to pick her up. See y'all later :D

I almost never take antibiotics. I've never said no to pain killers though. :)
