Here's a Stretchy story that has to do with hospitals.
My Sister and her husband have been married over 50 years. When he retired he wanted a small farm near where he grew up which was (no kidding) Gooserock,Ky on Grannysbranch. He had always wanted to go back to the simple
(read poor) life he knew as a kid. They have 5 children and even though she wouldn't have minded moving there she wanted to live near the kids and grandkids. So they built a house on Grannysbranch and decided the best course was to visit each other on long weekends.
One day she gets a call from relatives who still live around down there and they told her Herman had fallen out of a tree while cutting branches and they think he is hurt pretty bad. They take him to Lexington Ky (nearest city with Hosp)She gets to the hosp and he is sitting up in a chair complaining that he feels O.K. with the exception of his neck and upper back hurting.Immediately she thinks he may have broken his neck. The (on call) Dr. said of course not.No one lives
thru a broken neck. Pish Posh. She sat down there in his room for 3 days to hear him complain over and over about his neck hurting. She could stand no more and approached the Dr. and told him in no uncertain terms she wanted an MRI done on his neck. He said she would have to pay for it out of her own pocket because
insurance would not cover a non recommended test. She said fine whatever. For 3 days this man had been sitting in an upright position after his fall. They did the scan and sure enough his neck was broken. My Sister turned that hospital and Dr. inside out. Boiling mad and ready to kill the (on call) staff. She was shaking with anger and told them to put him on a Guerney that she was going to take him to a REAL hospital in Cincinnati. She was back to Gooserock took the mattress off the twin bed.Went back to the hospital loaded him into her SUV on the mattress and took him to Cincinnati. When she got to the ER entrance security came running telling her that only ambulances could come up to the door to unload. After she cussed him out for 5 minutes.A crew came to the SUV to collect my Brother in law and she heard the one say "Kinda like the Beverly Hillbillies but inspiring" The Dr. told her he wouldn't have lasted very long if he had turned his head differently while in a sitting position in the Lexington Hosp.He congratulated her for her bravery and courage. Hahahaha. He lived and actually doing O.K. for having a broken neck.
