Yes I was surprised and yes he def. was nervous. I really had no idea what was going on till he got up and looked at me funny and got down on one knee...lol. It was just priceless.

Nice one Orkira...

When I proposed to my wife we were outdoors in the early evening... I went down to one knee and opened the box with her ring in it...when she said yes fireworks went off!

No really... fireworks started going off because it was on the fourth of July and they light up our neighborhood every year at that time! ;)

I was still in my first school after boot camp. I couldnt fly home, so her mom flew her up to Chicago. (her parents knew I was going to propose.) The base was having a July 4th celebration/carnival type thing. We went on a few rides, and that, in conjuction with the smell of different greasy foods, made her feel a bit queazy. The food carts were set up all around the rides. So I led her to a patch of grass upwind of everything, where we sat down to wait on the fireworks. My best friend walked up to me as soon as the fireworks started and handed me the ring I had bought for her. It was just a promise ring. Being on an E-2 pay, I couldnt afford more. I stood up to one knee, opened the box, and before I could say anything, her eyes lit up, and she puked all over my buddy's shoes. He was such a good sport about it. He actually stood there off to the side, holding her purse, with her puke on his shoes, while im holding her hair out of her vomit stream. That moment brought me two thoughts. One, was the obvious. I was going to be marry a woman that pukes at the thought of spending the rest of her life with me. And two, if my best friend stood there by me through that, he would be one of those friends that will be there for you until one of you dies.

Since she and I were friends in high school, we had never missed a 4th of July together. That fact held true even through the various commands and deployments. Ive somehow always managed to either be at home, or she's made the trip to meet me. The farthest drive being up to NYC in 2000. July 4th has always been "our" holiday. Weve missed birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries, but never July 4th.

I don't.I thought you made it up. Which movie did I miss??
Not a movie. The Hanukkah Song, by Adam Sandler.

I found the perfect dates and times (for me) to be able to remember some of our key events...;)

I proposed on the 4th of July, and we were married on New Year's eve! :)

Any time I see fireworks stands opening for business I know it is time to go buy her a present and/or make dinner reservations, and should I forget the fireworks going off remind me!
