I am extremely mathematically challenged.I take no offense.I didn't know how to figure out percents until a girl I was working with showed me how to do it by calculator and then by hand.I do percents really well so I say to hell with the rest of it. Need a percent figured?I'm your gal..

Hey SP...What percentage is 116 out of 145?

Seriously though... I see both sides. Math was always easy for me, and I can do most things in my head. However, many of my students are let us say..."mathematically challenged"!

hmmmmm come to think about it... many of my students are "liguistically challeneged" as well!

The majority of my students can not do math without a calculator or computer, and can not spell or use grammar without a spell or grammar checker! However, how often are you going to be doing something where one of those two (if not both) are readily available tools? Sallie is right, the Dunkin Donuts chick should have simply typed it into the register, and been pleasantly surprised when it came back as a $10, a $5, and a dime!

My suspicion though, is that she may never have encountered anyone that would do that math in their head before. Most people simply do not wish to do so even if they can.

On a side note, my grandfather used to go to the grocery store and keep track of the bill total (including tax) for every item in the cart in his head. When he got to the checkout line he knew exactly what value it should be, and several times had to correct data entry mistakes the clerk made entering the prices into the cash register! I never once saw him be wrong! :D On the other hand... he was a math professor at a University. ;)

Ohhh, I know I know! Pick meeeeeeee!

I forgot to let the posse know that summer Fridays start for me tomorrow (we get every other Friday off in the summer where I work, as long as we're caught up on work) and since Monday is a holiday we're going to be doing some out of the house "staycationing", boating weather permitting, track weather permitting, barbecues weather permitting, that kind of thing. So basically not around. Don't panic if I'm not on ECF, it just means I'm out having a great time. :)

So... if I'm not around I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I'll see you back here next week!

Hi all!

Sallie, best of luck on the weather! That sounds AMAZING!

FV, thanks for the sale notice!! Now go play!

Bliss, isn't it nice to stalk something other than the mailman? Think of how well practiced your stalking skills are, thanks to vaping!

VV, I hope you feel better soon! Curl up with Violet, watch lots of bad television and have ice cream. This is why god invented netflix.

Stretchy, you may be off, but in all the best ways!

Allazar, grandpa sounds awesome and sharp as a tack!!!

Drott, James, Jeff - HI!!!!!

I know you will know this one Sallie... you already admitted at being frustrated that people could not do math in their head! That's why I picked an even percentage! ;)

And I am bailing out for the day! Woo Hoo!!!! Time to play, see everyone later.

Awesome! I am so jealous, but so happy that both of you get some well-deserved time off! I have a staycation planned in June and can barely count the days until I get 1 week off from both jobs!!!

You will let us know how you did right? It's kind of exciting...I hope the wait isn't too long.
Noooooooooooooo. No white...You don't live in Wisconsin....I do not have blueberry but I might need that and cherry and strawberry and banananananana,
I think I am gonna end up going with white and just picking an awesome accent color. I know it sounds lame.

Started stalking the testing website. I know the results aren't going to be there yet, but I can't help myself.

Stretchy do you have blueberry? If so, DO IT! :)

I have a headache....When I took Algebra whenever we were tested.I'd wait until the tests were passed out to everyone.I'd turn mine over and go sit next to the teacher and play Tic Tac Toe until time was up. He knew and I knew there was no use in taking it.I never passed Algebra.I cannot mix letters and numbers. The same teacher had my youngest son in his class and could not believe I was his mother. He's a math genius and he likes it.I'd have him help my older son who wasn't as good.He tutored him thru the class.
I can't concentrate on what I don't care about. My eyes glaze over and I go into a kind of reverie where I am somewhere else.I'm still like that.

Holy fart monkey, what a day. Started tearing down an equipment cabinet that had been decommisioned, then was told I would be helping a tech out in the field today. No biggie. Oh wait, the install is for a customer in downtown Charlotte. Normally, no biggie. But today starded Speed Street. That means that 90% of the downtown area's roads are shut down and flooded with people. I finally got to eat lunch at 2.

CJ is now scheduled for his endoscopy. The docs are going to see if they can figure out why he's getting these croup fits so often.

Speed Street? Is that part of the Coca Cola 600 this weekend?

I hope they find something that they can correct with the endoscopy... it really bites to have them run tests and not discover anything. (been there done that)

Yeah, its a really big deal that is put on. Lots of vendors, freebies, driver autograph sessions, live bands, the works. Ive only been to it once, but its pretty cool. I won an 11 piece grilling utensil set for knowing how many people were on a pit crew and being able to name each position.

I dont know what they expect to see in his airways, but I hope they can find a cause. I had to put in for PTO because Mrs E was already in tears just from talking to the hospital setting the appt up. It isnt going to be a long procedure, just knock him out, look for a few seconds, let him wake back up. When Melanie was about 3, she had to be put under for a minor surgery to open her tear ducts. She woke up BEYOND p!$$ed. Mrs E is worried about CJ doing the same thing. He is the light in her eyes and cant bear to see him anything other than the normal happy go lucky kid he usually is.
