Yeah, I hear that a lot. I was turned off of shipboard brew within days of my very first underway. Our ship had a shallow draft and a flat bottom. Picture a cork in a bathtub. And with our shop at the top of the superstructure, we tended to move a lot more than most of the rest of the ship. One particularly hard roll, a buddy's mug slid off the non-skid covered desk, and splashed on the bulkhead. Being the good shipmate, I helped him clean it up. Then paint started coming off the bulkhead with the coffee. THE COFFEE WAS A PAINT STRIPPER.... I havent touched a single cup of it since.

That is the beauty of coffee in the Navy James... it had to counteract all of the alcohol we consumed! ;)
I'm stunned that a little thing like some missing paint got to you like that... it's a good thing you must have gotten to it fast, or it would have started eating its way through the superstructure!

Our test for coffee in the navy was that if you could put a spoon in it and have it remain upright... then it was good coffee.

That just means you dont pay enough. ;)

I agree 1000% My wife has gotten flowers several times this year. ;)

mmmmmBEERmmmmmmm

Great gift FV!

Hooray! The air conditioner is going in right now!!!! It is soooo hot in here, I'm melting.

Melting witchdoctors is never good... sorry about the A/C!

He always says that too. Quote." I'll be there when you really need me".
Well I must say he don't beat me and he brings home his paycheck,he's a good Dad but to me he will always be Mr.Crabbypants. I actually took a nap. I decided to sleep on it...I cannot wait until he get's home with the cake.Does that make me a bad person?

Nope, it just means you are a woman! ;)

Too late. Even if you had left NeverNear when I posted it, you wouldnt have made it in time. There was barely enough for a plate left when I got home.

I'm not surprised... perhaps YOU should cook it once like her grandmother did James so she can taste the difference and determine if it is worth the extra work involved from the receiving end.

Pascal: BUCKMAN! what the heck are you doing?

Buckman: restocking the pantry, sir

Pascal: what are in these 2 cans?

Buckman: that one's coffee....and that one looks like cooking lard.

Pascal: and which one do you think we'll be using more often? The coffee....or the lard? you think we're all going to jump out of bed in the morning and have a big, tall, steaming cup of PIGFAT?

Buckman: Depends on how cold the morning is, sir.

Got to love that movie... Down Periscope was amazing!

Yesterday there was a bit of excitement on my way to my appointment. The interstate buckled from the heat, all the way across both lanes. There were 7 vehicles with messed up tires/rims on the other side. And really cranky people on their phones calling tow trucks. Luckily the police were already there with lights on to slow traffic down or I would have been #8. The pavement had heaved up about a foot! By the time I was on my way back home they had already repaired it. Now I will remember to watch for it when it gets this hot.

Yikes! A foot!!!??? What type of soil is the interstate built on up there where it could move that much all at once???

But it's not a Provari....Have you ever had one?.....Drott,they are the bomb...Seriously you need one.
FV you seriously need 2. Get a mini. You will love it..
Never had one. Doubt I ever will. Ive read the spec sheets, heard the rants and raves on how good they are. But there are better ways to spend $200. I was using a $15 VVbox that did quiet well until the power switch burned up. Then a super great person PIF'd me a LT from a co-op. That works just fine too. I went ahead an put together another $15 VVbox kit as a back up. If Im ever PIF'd a Provari, I promise I wouldnt turn it down, but to me, its just not worth the money.

Very true

That coffee test was Navy Standard. ( I didnt know you served?)

TMI

Beer is the perfect gift.

No need to comment on the melting witchdoctor

Agreed

And you can shut your face. Even if I COULD duplicate her grand mother's results, it would take two days of cooking. I reserve that much effort to BBQ.

Down Periscope is quite possibly the best movie ever made. When I was driving all over VA and NC, I had a CB. My co-workers convinced me to make my handle "Nitro".

Yes, I spent almost 6 years in from early '93 to late '98. It was too hard to make rate as you were having to max out your time due to the downsizing so I left as an E5... post 9/11 they started nearly giving away advancements due to realizing they had downsized too much...go figure.

James, I knew it would be something like that when I posted about the sphagetti. However... if you did it just once then she might be able to appreciate it more from the perspective of the person eating it if she can do so once without having to do all of that work!

Nitro- - it without a doubt had my favorite quote from a military movie... even if it has been used multiple times it was done really well here...

Rear Admiral Yancy Graham: You watch yourself, Dodge. You are addressing a superior officer!
Lt. Comd. Dodge: No, merely a higher ranking one. Catch us if you can!

Rear Admiral Yancy Graham: Now, call me a prude if you want, but I don't think it's good policy for the Navy to hand over a billion-dollar piece of equipment to a man who has "Welcome Aboard" tattooed on his penis.

Afternoon Ever. Come back and save me from the Periscope Down dialog. Please!
