Sorry if I missed it, this is such a long thread, but have you completely given up on the Echo's and gone over to the Ego Megas?

If so, are you having any of the burning problems with the Ego Megas that you had with the Echos?

Also, are the Ego Megas easily cleaned? I have tried cleaning two Echos, one by just boiling and another by taking out the filler, dry burning, etc. and both were DOA upon refill.

It's time for me to order some new cartos and I am wondering if the Ego Megas are better than the Echos, especially with the burnt taste/cleaning issues?

Also, I did read a comment on the mad vapes Ego Mega page that the carto leaked - have you had this problem? Leaking with the Ego-T attys is what drove me to the Echos!

Thanks for any help!

Janner:

I got my eGo kit and first mega dc on September 6th, and I've been vaping with my eGo megas pretty much exclusively for over a week now. I have yet to try cleaning them, and so far I don't feel the need. I got a 5 pack and use 3 cartos with a different flavor in each. Just a few days ago thought one carto was losing it's zest so i set it aside and filled another. If it really comes down to it and I have to replace a carto about every 2 weeks then that's 6 a month and at $15 for 5 that's pretty damn acceptable. If they can be cleaned well, bonus.

Leaking: The mega dc cartos have no real leaking problems (refilling aside). I use manual batteries now, so there's no hole in the battery post for liquid to escape down. So far I've not seen any substantial amount of liquid sitting in there. I do run a q-tip over my battery posts while I'm filling my cartos every night, and some crud comes off sure, but I would describe this as mostly sooty and not wet. In fact here's a pic from last night:

Vapor / Battery: I got my echo dc the same day as my ego kit with the mega dc. Comparing them side by side, well, I've already done that further back in this thread. To summarize: the mega is stronger. As an update, I can say the mega dc's vapor is still going strong. I did get an automatic eGo battery from Totally Wicked, but it doesn't seem to have the kick the standard manual batteries have, and it doesn't have a passthru plug on it either, so I rarely use it. Plus with the manual batteries I have peace of mind about leaking juice into them and killing them. I used to have to keep my echos in my pocket upside down to make sure that didn't happen with them, but as a consequence there was alot of juice coming out the mouthpiece. Also, I don't know if my eGo manual batteries are regulated or non regulated, but from what I'm reading I'd lean towards unregulated because the vapor is stronger fresh off the charger noticeably.

Mouthpiece: I can see why people hate the rubber tip it comes with. It sucks. But my innovation using hard plastic 808 whistle tips makes up for it and more (also in a previous post). As an update, I will say I've perfected my method to trimming the plastic whistle tip just right, and I apply glue inside the mega rubber tip before inserting the plastic one to seal it in, avoiding that mouthful of juice issue we all despise. I actually love the mouthpiece now because it's hard in the center and rubber all around, easy on the teeth and stays rigid. In addition I started keeping my vaporizer right side up in my pocket and since then I haven't had the dreaded juice mouth even once. Here's another pic of my modified mouthpiece:

Burning: Not. Even. Once. ... yet. Here's what the inside looks like after about a week of 2-3ml worth of 36mg 100% PG vaping a day:

One thing also worth mentioning, I never previously used a manual battery and it was a good week before it didn't annoy the hell out of me. I still often wish it was automatic as I don't always have a free hand, but it is what it is.

So what I'm really trying to say is the mega DC is worth checking it out, definitely.

Here's some size comparisons:

Just got my echo dual coil's. I feel like one of the Apollo astronauts just after lift-off, holy hell these things vape nice... eGads. I've got it on just a standard echo-auto 1300 mah batt right now. Looking forward to when they will be available in chrome. :)

On a side note, I'm thinking of getting an extended capacity battery (or two) for use with my eGo mega dc's, but there appears to be a wild range of them on the market and very little information about them on the sites that do sell them. I'd like a 1300mAh manual battery (the largest I could find) manual, or 1000mAh/900mAh if the 1300mAh ones are garbage. Also a passthru battery would be pretty nice. I was hoping someone might have experience with a few different brands and are able to give advice. So far I've found ones from SmokTek, SmokTek, LiteCigUSA, dragonflyecigs, dragonflyecigs, Mountain Vapor, Vaping Zone, ecigcharleston, Totally Wicked, NHaler, NHaler, and Valley Vapor.

Are you looking for max muscle or max capacity? For max muscle, the current king of the eGo style batts is the KGO at 1100mAh...

KGO Battery

Please explain the difference? Or at least what battery muscle is? Perhaps if I do mean capacity instead, what would the king of that be?

I should have worded that better. By muscle I mean loaded voltage. The KGO delivers higher loaded voltage than any other eGo style battery on the market today. This video will demonstrate...

Or read about the KGO on this thread...

As for highest capacity, meaning mAh, I'll let someone else chime in here. The highest I have heard of is 1300mAh but I haven't really searched.

Thanks for pointing out the other threads JJ. This is the Echo thread and the ego, emdcc, Kgo and others have their own threads. Most people come on here to get Echo information and it just clutters the thread and confuses new users. :2cool:
Here is the thread we had going for discussing all the different ego type pv's. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-kgo-echo-comparisons.html#post3122108:2cool:

Had to RIP it apart. These suckers are sturdy! So the liquid wicks from the poly-filler to the blanket, and the blanket is wrapped around the woven air tube. There are two slits in the bottom of the (epoxied) tube that the ends of the short glass fiber wick protrude through like a moustache, enough to contact the blanket. If you vape the sucker dry, only the glass fiber heats up, no filler is in contact. I don't think I'd worry too much about the tube, that looks like asbestos. It seems more like a glass fiber weave, it's strong as the devil, I had to pull really hard to rip it out, it tore and the bottom attachment still held! It seems most likely that any leaks are due to overfilling or a defective carto. There are many opportunities for building it wrong. The cases of weak vapor after a while may be related to a deteriorated wick contact with the blanket? Or does the glass fiber wick moustache fill up with gunk and stop wicking well?

Now I can't wait to see where they put the coils in the dual coil design (coming any day now).

Anybody rip one of the EMDCC (SMOKs) apart? BTW, DarthVper, I'm not as sold on those as you are, but we'll see. For one thing, the standard coil Echo-e is drawing a lot less amperage.

BTW, notice the exposed wire. That's going to glow red at first. The guys working on the GENISIS DIY attys, where the wire is coiled around a stainless steel screen wick, noticed that until the exposed wire is burned-in oxidized with juice, there's a bad taste. That would explain why the taste improves on cartos like this after they're used a little.

Thanks Tx,
Hey I'm wondering how you guys that have tried the Dual Coils like them so far. I'm curious about how well it holds up with that upper coil being as high as it is. Are you getting the life you're accustomed to with the regular ones?

They seem to be lasting about the same for me. The only thing you might not be able to remove the filler to clean them like some do with the singles. I don't remove the filler to clean them myself being as I use the neat cleaner from Smoktek.

Hi All,

In using the new Echo dual-coil echomizer I have noticed that my 1300mAh battery only works well for about 10-12 hours as compared to 18-20 hours with the single-coil standard units. While the extra flavor alone is worth it, I'm wondering if others are experiencing this battery puff reduction as well or is it just me? The unit itself so far, appears to last as long as the single-coil units.

That is standard among all dual coil or LR cartos that they will drain the batteries a little quicker and decrease battery life. They are well worth it for me but I have lots of batteries and always have several charged. These duals are working great so far!:2cool:

I have about 20 or 30 chrome single coil cartos that I will sell at a good price if anyone prefers the singles just PM me.

I'm curious as to how many of the posters on this forum are using the Echo Carts on the eGo 3.2v and other 3.7v fat bats? I ask because I ordered a couple of Echo E carts when they first came out due to the praise I had read about them. I was disappointing as they didn't come close to what I was accustomed to on my 3.7v bats. It was also disappointing on my PT as compared to what I was accustomed to.

How does your Echo compare to a LR cart such as the Boge, or a LR atti on the same bat? Do any of you use your Echos on a PT or a VV PV?

I have since bought a relatively inexpensive VV PV (by far the best investment I've made to date) and put my last Echo E cart on it, to get a decent vape I had to crank the voltage up to the 4.8v to 5v range. Have recently received some Dual Coil Echo carts and they are about all I could hope for at the same voltage (5v) but on 3.7v fat bats!, nothing at all like what I've read here, even off a freshly charged 4.18v bat.

FWIW I had essentially the same experience with the eGo Mega Dual Coil Cart. At 5v it's much better but not quite the performance or as satisfying as the Echo Dual Coil for my taste.

After watching the 1100mAH eGo SLB battery test on U-Tube I performed the same test with a couple of 9 month old 900mAH Riva batts fresh off the charger at 4.16v using the same volt meter. You may recall the U-Tube video didn't show the voltage fresh off the charger, only the voltage under load so it's difficult to make a direct comparison as to what the voltage drop was. With my batts starting at 4.16v a Echo single coil dropped to 3.88v, an Echo Dual Coil 3.7v and with my eGo Mega Dual Coil it dropped to 3.65v under load.

It's nice to see some eGo bats coming out unregulated but I wonder how many realize that many eGo bats are only 3.2v which will diminish the vaping experience substantially as compared to a true 3.7v bat.

Yes, but! Let's face it, the danger of unregulated circuits is real. And on mods, Chinese batteries are often "fake". What's that mean? It means that the wrapper on the cells may say "Protected UltraFire" but the protection circuit is absent or doesn't work. And plain cheapest (or even used) Li-Ion batteries are packaged to look like more expensive Ultrafires.

I just got a mod in the Priority Mail today. The 14500 Ultrafires have enough spelling errors on them to scare me. I have no idea if they have working protection circuits, or any at all. The mod-maker used a simple switch, no regulator. A regulator drops the voltage a bit, but also adds some protection.

In this scenario, what if the batteries have no internal protection, since the mod has none? I can easily overdrain the battery. So what, dead battery? We don't appreciate what an extreme these small cells are. Even 1000 mAh is one hour at 1 amp. That's a lot. Much more than was possible a few years ago. But the price is chemical instability. Overcharge or overdrain them and they can go into a chain reaction and blow. It takes microprocessors to monitor them. So the "hot" mod is insanely risky when the batteries are an unknown.

Somebody was telling how he fell asleep with his finger on the button, and the very hot battery woke him up! Lucky him! If the battery doesn't blow in your face, it can easily be overdrained. If that happens, it tends to overheat during charging, and can blow on the charger. Better than in your face, but look at some Youtube videos of damage.

I'd say stick to regulated batteries with cutoffs and time-outs, and if you build mods, use regulators, and be very careful with the batteries you buy. If you MUST vape at high power, get a well-built high voltage mod, or low resistance cartos. Please don't try to squeeze a few fractions of a volt out of standard batteries.
