Her argument was that permissible “race-sensitive admissions policies,” the new name for racial preferences, both serve the compelling interest of obtaining the educational benefits that flow from a diverse student body and inure people to the benefit of racial minorities. By the way, no one has come up with hard evidence of the supposed “educational benefits” that come from a racially mixed student body, and there’s mounting evidence of harm done to minorities through academic mismatching.
This being my first contribution to "The Outside," I will start slow.
The passage I quoted shows 2 (rather blatant) racist points of view of the author. Firstly, the argument against "supposing educational benefits" from a diverse student body smacks of "What could WE possibly learn from THEM?" Secondly, and directly in support of my first point, the argument of "academic mismatching." Is this another way of saying, "They're too stupid to be here in the first place?"
Thanks for the hours of discourse (notice I didn't elect to qualify, I'd hate to start off on the wrong foot with certain other contributors), it's all been an experience.
