My recent purchase from FT was shipped DHL Ecommerce, even though I didn't choose DHL. I chose "USPS Expedited for Battery Products" as it was the only shipping option available for my order. USPS will ultimately deliver it, but DHL was the actual carrier from China to USA.

Anyway, I read elsewhere that DHL is going to end up sending me a bill for $30-40 for customs and "administration" fees (about 2-6 weeks after the package is delivered to me). Only about $2-3 of that is actually customs fees. Happened to others supposedly.

I hope this doesn't happen. My order didn't even cost me $20!!!

Has anyone else had this issue? Does avoiding buying batteries avoid the possibility of FT using DHL?

I hope so because I've been buying from FT for probably 4 years or so and never had anything shipped via DHL (but I don't think I ever bought battery products from them either, can't remember).

From what I read in FT, shipping with DHL needs to have the true value on the invoice. I think that is the reason why you're beeing taxed.

If that was not your shipping optionperhaps you should make a claim with FT

To be clear, I have not been billed/taxed...yet. I'm just stating what I've read other say happened to them when FT shipped via DHL.

Also, it's not the tax that is a big deal on such small orders. Its the DHL administration fee which is $30+. This is what I read a few people are claiming happened to them.

FT claim? FT isn't going to do anything. Their policy clearly states customs taxation are the customer's concern. Yes, it was their decision to ship via DHL, but their argument will be that since it is DHL Ecommerce service, it is ultimately delivered to me via USPS and therefore they did ship via USPS as instructed :)

DHL Ecommerce service from China =
  • DHL takes from China to DHL California distribution center.
  • Then from there to a USPS distribution center,
  • then USPS ultimately delivers package.
Good luck getting FT to do anything about this.

We shall see what happens. If I am billed this may have to be my last order from FT unless I can be assured non-battery items are still safe to buy from FT...for now.

I don't know if you'll actually get hit with taxes - what DHL usually dings you for is customs clearance. As an individual you have a very generous amount you can import before you are taxed but the customs fees (which are included with postal services) are not included with DHL.

Yes, you may be right about tax/duty for US Customs. I did read on the US Customs website a few years ago something about individuals (not a businesses), allowed to import up to $800 worth of goods without having to pay duties/taxes. But I can't remember if that only applied to when you are traveling or if it also applies to internet/mail purchases. There are also restrictions to this rule depending on the item being imported.

Regardless, as I stated, it's not taxes/duties that make this a big deal, is the heavy DHL admin/clearance fees.

My last FT order of Nov. 28 th also had "USPS Expedited for Battery Products" as the only shipping option and tracking shows DHL Ecommerce as shipping partner. Configuring an order today for the same item I don't see the expidited option, but 'USPS for Batteries".

I ordered reading glasses with LED lights in various strengths, but only the +2.50 strength required the special batteries shipping.

I hope they don't actually try to bill for it as I had it shipped to a friend where someone is always home to avoid theft.

What happens if you refuse to pay the bill?

Well it's a private company so they will send you a billion bills, then send it to collections. After about 180 days, they report it on your credit report and they sell it off to a private firm who will try to scare you into paying it + "late fees". But the damage is done to your credit report at that point, no use paying a private debt buyer on such a small amount. If they sue you for a $40 bill, they won't be in business long.

I'm not a financial or debt advisor. But been there, don't that.

But my point is, you will have a delinquent mark on your credit report and have collectors calling you all the time for a while. That's probably the worst that would happen on such a small bill.

    Interesting...(and UNfortunate)...

On 10/30/19 I ordered some tanks and 2 Justfog Minifits...

I paid 43 cents for the "USPS for Batteries" option...and the order was delivered without DHL involvement...(took 14 days)...

note: I did NOT use a "USPS Expedited for Battery Products" option...

That USPS Expedited for Battery Products was the only option available to me that was reasonable. only cost me 63 cents  I hope it doesn't cost me $30-40 in DHL fees on top of that

IS there still an advantage to ordering from FT? I quit vaping for quite a number of years, but back in 2012-2016 FT was stilll very cheap. Now, I look at prices of things and I can almost match their prices with vendors here in the U.S.?

I don't know about prices in the USA but for those of us in other countries, yeah, it is much cheaper. :)

FT is still worth if for certain RTA/RDA clones, authentic coil heads, and parts.
I also only buy from FT during holidays when they have the 10% off 15% site-wide coupons. Their coil heads are already way cheaper than USA online vendors and with the coupon I'm like a kid in a candy store.

BUT for authentic mods and tanks? Meh, not really, IMHO. Not for the USA anyhow. They have OK deals sometimes, but it's rare. But the minor savings, if any, aren't usually worth the wait on these things.

Lots of people left FT when their prices went up and their clone offerings dwindled. Shame because, even with all the trolling (that still exists, especially political trolls) it was a much more helpful resource than ti is today.

I think FT is still great for accessories for ecigs and tanks, due to not many places carrying that sort of things or not USA vendors anyway.

But I think prices on mods and tanks is either more than US vendors or not enough savings to wait for it.

    This ^^ !

Also being in Canada, I know all too well how high shipping charges from the US or Europe can be for us. FT's Canadian shipping option gets my packages here in a couple of weeks for about a buck. Works for me :)

Some days ago I received the dirtiest disgusting rda ever to imagine possible. I don't even feel like cleaning it. It was covered in what seemed like rust but after close inspection it was like someone was eating chocolate with dirty hands and toutching every part inside out of the rda...

    ... I'm so furious...

Finally! My order that shipped on 12/11 made its way to the U.S. today. I ordered it with the Thanksgiving coupon code and used United States ePacket Express shipping. I've never had a FT order to take so long to get here!

Are you in the USA? For me (USA) that's about how long it usually takes - 15-20 days after shipment. Once I got in in 10 days, but that was a long time ago. I remember it was HK post.
