You were not charged any SALES duty or tax by fasttech as they say HK does not require it.

However, the country that the goods are imported into charges IMPORT duty, this is true of virtually every country in the world, including the US and Canada. Each country sets a value of imported goods above which they will charge duty. It is the responsibility of the purchaser and not the merchant to pay this.

Yup, if Canada does it for whatever fasttech claimed your package was worth, (I assume what you paid or less) then you might just want to stay away from importing.

I've ordered hundreds of dollars of stuff from fasttech (and deal extreme) here in the US, and never had a issue with delays, charges or confiscations.

Was 25$ the amount you paid in tax, the amount you paid FT or the amount FT put as the value on your package? I know in the UK customs can set a value on goods that does not necessarily match the value you pay, I once bought a $120 pair of shoes from a discount clearance place in the States for $40 + shipping and ended up paying double after customs decided to hit me with a charge.

My order from FT was $25. The $17 was paid in customs and broker fees.

Are you saying i will have too pay these charges on my $18.00 brass tube sent from China,i think i just got ripped off again,i am getting fed up.I will just send it back if thats the case.

The only things certain in life are death and taxes

Under the provisions of the Postal Imports Remission Order, if someone mails you an item worth CAN$20 or less, you don’t have to pay duty or taxes on the item. If the item is worth more than CAN$20, you must pay the applicable duty, the GST or HST, and any PST on the item’s full value.

Items that do not qualify for the CAN$20 exemption include the following:

tobacco;
books;
periodicals;
magazines;
alcoholic beverages; and
goods ordered through a Canadian post office box or a Canadian intermediary.
Handling costs

To process goods imported as mail that are subject to duty and/or tax, Canada Post charges the recipient CAN$9.95. If the item is duty-free and tax exempt, no amount is charged.

You get a $200 limit in the states (or I think $100 for gifts)

Unlucky there fella. I have been there and it's annoying.

I wonder what percentage of parcels the customs people check?

Yeah, I know. I've been ordering stuff back and forth from the U.S, China, Europe etc for the last three years, and probably been hit with charges around 4 or 5 times. Meh! Still worth it in the long run..

Try to keep your orders at around the free shipping $15 mark wherever possible and don't order on the same day.

I actually think Fasttech has one of the best warranty / DOA / not received policies of all the ecig suppliers I have used*

*With the exception of Mt. Baker Vapor.

I agree. I ordered 2 ego style batteries and one had screwed up threads and wouldn't go on the charger. I submitted a support ticket and their immediate answer was "We'll send you another free. If you are going to order from us soon could we just put it in the box with that order to save us shipping?". Even though there's spaces for it on the support ticket form, they never asked for pictures or the faulty battery to be sent back.

I don't recall this coming up before in this thread. Have any other consumers that shop Fast Tech been hit with these Duty Rates? Factoring this in would definitely change the perspective of shopping all of these great deals from F.T.

Out of my 6 orders from fasstech and my 13 from deal extreme (other china site) I have never been hit with them (I am in the US). All of my orders are under 100 dollars tho.

No tracking included. Order was less than $10.

Then it's a 30 day shipment, you must have missed the option to upgrade to the 10 day tracked shipping for $0.5-$1 extra when you checked out. I usually just buy a cheap juice to make it up to the $15 where it gets the 10 day shipping free as standard.
