I wouldn't have to. If I had a large volume of product set for a large region I'd consolidate the shipment and set distribution closer to the recipients. I'd still be covering the cost of shipping either way so I'd make it as efficient as possible to maintain business relations.

That isnt really as cost efficient as you think, when you consider how cheap labor and warehouse space is in china compared to the US.
Besides, FT does not have a big warehouse with all of its stuff sitting there. Most of their stuff comes direct from the warehouses manufacturing the items...IN CHINA!
And shipping would be double, as the stuff would have to be shipped to the warehouse in the US, warehoused, and then shipped to the consumer. And lets not forget, FT is not here just for American consumers, but consumers across the world. So you want them to setup warehouses in every country?
Yeah, no. You really do not understand their business model at all.
FT sells stuff made from china manufactures CHEAP, dirt cheap, to consumers across the world, with little overhead.
And their shipping method is really not that bad. I have made like 8 orders from them. Each and everyone has shown up at my door between 10-20 days, typically 2 weeks on the dot, from the day they ship it out their warehouse. Sometimes their JIT model gets backed up because of demand that the manufactures cant keep up with, so stuff wont be shipped out to you for a few days, or even 10 days or longer, but it has always said BEFORE I placed my order, and I have always had it ship to me faster than they stated. Can I say that always happens? nope. But 2 weeks from china to florida at their prices with included shipping? Yeah, that is very hard to beat.
