I forgot about even trying to adjust the bottom contact, usually I only need to adjust the firing pin if anything on my other mech. So I just slightly unscrewed the bottom contact, and the button fell apart:laugh: So put it back together and then unscrewed it by 3/4 of a turn and it is firing on the 18650 however, one more 1/4 of a turn and the button will come undone. So its good for now, but it still needs a more permanent fix ... no worries, such is the life of team cheap mod

Okay, one last check point. Have you got the locking ring screwed ALL the way up? Might be stopping the press and causing the need for a loose screw...................:D

Which did you order?

I got the $20 Aqua with the silver plated nonsense and the RED o-rings ;-) (I'm usually form follows function, but I like the red o-rings…

Not quiet. Are you aware that t was listed as in stock the moment it was listed as a new item? FT states that "in stock" items will ship in no more than 2 days. Well the "in stock" Aqua was listed on the 6th. As of this morning, the 9th, none had shipped. To me, liar is not so inaccurate.

I'm glad you agree. Maybe it's not entirely intentional, or intentional at all, BUT when you go to buy an item and it says "IN STOCK", and then you get a ship date of 2 days later (which is correct according to their site), then it *should* ship when it says it will ship, because IT IS IN STOCK. Then, when you check the status the day AFTER it was to ship, and the status says RESTOCKING, it means they don't have it in stock currently. Then, when you go on the regular site (not your order status page), and look up the item, and it says IN STOCK, when they know it's NOT IN STOCK, that, to me, is a lie.

I'm annoyed, but not like RAGING or anything. They're a huge purveyor of cheap crap, and do an enormous amount of business (I assume) because of that. Their QC and inventory system is horrible. They're getting too big for their britches, and they need to move to an Amazon style system. It's the PRINCIPLE that they KNOW that they don't have an item in stock, yet they continue to sell it as if it were in stock that bothers me.

Oh yes, it was so "screwed up" that it was stuck and when I tried to lock it, I kept unscrewing the entire bottom cap .. of course I eventually got it free, but that was not the issue. Now that I have taken it apart I understand more of what the other customer complaints about the firing button were saying. Out of the box, the button seems perfect, but when you adjust the contact, it also loosens the firing button, increases the throw, and it become very wobbly.

I believe I saw a thread on FT where someone sanded down the delrin around the contact, thereby increasing the clearance of the bottom contact when you press the fire button .. this way you don't have to unscrew the contact, and lengthen the throw to get this baby to fire. I do have a dremel, so I guess I can either sand down the delrin, or .... take it apart again and figure out something else, because I don't think that a stiffer spring is the remedy... but can't say for sure yet.

But thanks for the suggestions because until you said it, I didn't even think of adjusting the bottom contact, which works for now, but I would have to keep a constant eye on it to make sure it did not unscrew any further, and release the entire button. Part of playing on team cheap Mod means that you have to be resourceful, and handy.

Personally, I would use some 220 grit on a flat surface to wear the delrin down just a hair at a time. You may even find that enough comes off that your 350 tube isn't too short anymore. Just be sure the contact is still fully isolated from the bottom of the bat, and test fit often during stock removal.

I wonder if both of your problems might stem from the manufacturer accidentally using a run of delrin rings from a different model in th switches. Didn't you say a friend had the sme issues?

Oh okay, I see where you are going. Had a similar problem on another brand Mod a while back. I have a suggestion on a simpler fix if you would like.
Remove the switch screw. Match up a washer(or 2/3) that will slip over the screw threads and fit the opening in the Delron. Add the washers as needed for height and tighten the screw. Button throw will remain the same(no longer) and no loose parts.

This will leave everything intact in case you switch to a different battery with a length change.
I have 18650's from 64.5mm to over 68mm long.

Ok, much of the following rant is not directed at you personally, but at a trend that has been forming for a while here and over in the FT forums.

Why is it that you refer to FT as "a purveyor of cheap crap" and yet you STILL buy?

Do you have that little respect for your money and yourself that you buy what you term as "cheap crap" with it? Are you that ambivalent about purchasing something inexpensive? Would you buy the same thing locally, at 2 or 3 times the price, and call it "cheap crap"?

Nothing I have purchased so far from FT, and that is quite a bit over the last 6 months, has been "cheap crap". I buy inexpensively, but never knowingly 'crap'. If you knowingly buy something you consider to be 'cheap crap' before you even order it, then you deserve to get ripped off.

Same thing about the 're-stocking' rants. If you think FT is lying to you, or you don't like the conditions, cancel your orders asap and stop buying from them. If not, stop using words like 'lying'.

It's getting ludicrous what some people are yelling about. There was a guy over on the forums having a hissy fit because his order went from "ready to ship" to "packaging" and he couldn't understand why something that was ready to ship wouldn't be in a package already...Then there are those who seem to think that FT manufactures the stuff they sell...and those that think that FT is guilty of every shipping delay on the planet.

And don't get me started on people boiling things for hours before they even use them...if you think something is that unhygienic, don't buy it for heaven's sakes.

Maggie's First Law of Intelligent Buying: You don't get what you pay for, you get what you purchase.

Speaking of grit ... I almost ordered a bunch (120-1000 grit) two weeks ago because I was playing with the idea of brushing the finish on one of my other mods, but I didn't buy it. I get what you are saying about making sure that the contact remains isolated from the bottom of the battery ... this is getting intense folks. And it wasn't a friend, it was a member of the forums on FT that sanded down their delrin insulator, and I just recall seeing pics of it.

I don't know what the manufacturer was thinking because the delrin is much too thick and/or the length of the threaded part of the contact is too short, which I would think would be obvious upon installing the pieces for the bottom button. I have modded the switch, and shortened the throw on another Mod I have, but aside from sanding down the delrin, not sure what else I can do to fix this one, but there has to be something. I am so spent from all the excitement today that I don't have the energy to figure it out tonight

I put in a ticket at FT, but not for the switch, only for the short 18500 tube, the broken battery case, and the ill fitting Ego adapters ... but my oh my those JM tubes are so pretty!

Maggie to be fair, not everything I got from Fasttech has been fantastic and I am betting you can say the same. We do our homework and make the best selections possible but sometimes the dice come up craps. I can say that the one time I felt something was worth the effort of returning the fasttech people handled it efficiently and well with no arguments.

Not everything on Fasttech is top notch goods but it is on the consumer to figure out what is worth a shot for them personally.

You know I was thinking that (washers) ... and I may have some laying around in my big tool box in the basement, but I gotta pull it out and see ... but I was thinking that, so if I do have some washers, I will give it a go. Or go to Home Depot and buy some, I was planning to make a trip to pick up some copper tubes for the center post on one of my Gennies. So yeah, thanks. :)

I definitely agree with you - at least some of us seem to do our homework, and then what happens, happens. I've had stuff that I haven't liked, but that's my reaction, not necessarily the thing in itself.

My bubbling-over irritation comes from the attitude that from the get-go you're going to get 'cheap crap'...that FT is just out to find ways to lie, thieve and steal your money, so you'd better shoot first and ask questions later...and yet those same people keep on ordering.

It reminds me of the old joke about the two little old ladies in the restaurant..."This is awful, horrible, tastes like something the cat dragged in..." Yeah, and the portions are so smallllll."

Somewhere out there
Kayfun 3.1 clone in da house! Ordered 12/25, shipped 12/31, delivered 1/9 via China epacket. https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10006473/1494700-svoemesto-kayfun-v3-1-es-styled-rebuildable

Washed it out quickly in dawn dishwashing liquid, but there was still a bit of machine oil taste in the air flow tube, it had to go for a second bath. In a hurry to try it, I made hasty 32ga 5 wrap coil over 3 strands of silica (a method I saw in someone's youtube review). I was afraid it would be hard to setup, but it's a breeze.

Anyone want to buy a couple of protanks? (just KIDDING, this is NOT really an offer to sell, but I see why the people rave about the KF)

There is one flaw, I can't get the fill screw out. There's nothing for a hex key to grab on, the screw head socket is round. I was planning on top filling anyway, but WT??

I also have a KF lite on the way, it's in town, so maybe tomorrow.

3rd order placed around the same time was the first shipped, but seems to be stuck in customs. Just some drip tips and o-rings and other little stuff.

Fasttech reports shopping has begun on my order. I used Speedpost Global , paid a lot for it. Let's see how long it takes from being reported "shipped" to getting to my door. Fingers crossed that it is worth the money. I'll report back with info.

Curt.

I used this shipping method myself. Hope it's better than last time I ordered but for me it's ok. I have plenty to hold me off until my order arrives. eBay keeps me buying stuff in the meantime lol

Go for it!!!

A lot of the guys I used to run with when I was into knife-making used 600 grit as their satin finish. We would polish out any marks down to about 1000 grit, then carefully, being sure to make all long strokes in one direction, with no J-hooking at the end, go over the 1000 finish with 600. Bordered between satin and semi gloss. Just a gorgeous finish for something that you don't want to be a fingerprint magnet.

Heck it is tempting to do this to my vamo V2 SS

That thing is so darn slippery I have to keep orings on it to keep it from sliding out of my hand.

The fill hole is a needle valve it doesnt unscrew, or your screwed.....

Use a needle bottle and push on it carefully to fill.

Good Luck! :toast:
