Ok I guess where smoking is not allowed, would be my problem. By the way my vp looks just like a real one, so that is a good idea. I just wished I would see more people using the e- cigs too, that would make me feel better. Do you just ask when you go into a place or just do it and hope no one will say anything to you? I did not know some places you could not use them. I thought you could use them anywhere. Thanks

Being new to vaping, it's understandable at first to be tenative. Those who have been vaping for quite a while to suggest hiding in bathrooms to vape is a problem.

One of the big advantages to using a model that does NOT look like the real thing is you easily gain more acceptance. I advocate vaping openly almost "everywhere" but respectfully. When I vape in a restaurant or sports bar, I show/demonstrate my PV to the server or manager and explain that it is water vapor. 99% of the time I get the thumbs up. I don't blow plumbs of vapor into the center of the room.

I vape in both my doctor and dentist offices and have shown/explained it to both of them and they are now big supporters. My dentist even ask me to do a write up for his patients who smoke. I now carry a small cards I made up on the computer with advice and web sites because I get so many requests for more information. Since I am in courthouse frequently, most of the requests I get there are from sheriff's deputies.

Vape openly but respectfully and consider a non-analog like model and you will be surprised how much acceptance you will find.

I'm getting over that stage myself. For the most part you get more questions than strange looks.... and if someone does make some sort of comment just tell em to screw off :) You're not going to change the mind of a closed minded zealot.

Hehehe, I go outside and vape when I am out in public. One guy on monday joked around and asked me why I was going outside to do it with the smokers (he's a smoker). Just explained that some folks get just as bent about vaping inside as they do about smoking and I didn't want to get the folks in trouble with the VFW (was a VFW Hall they rented).

I've had this issue myself. I've been vaping for about 6 months now, but still find that I only vape in my home, my car, or my parents' home (who also vape). My parents tend to be more open about it, they vape in restaurants and in public like they are at home, but I can't seem to get past the smoker's mindset of being away from people when I vape.

My strategy was to just act like I wasn't doing anything abnormal. I vaped in public for the first time this weekend. I went holiday shopping in a variety of stores, stopping in an Anne Sathers for some coffee, vaping on and off the entire time. No one said anything, gave me any looks or even asked questions. Yesterday while vaping in a restaurant, two cops sat behind me. I kept vaping but prepared myself in case they asked me to stop. I don't believe they even noticed.

I've used it at work various times, never vaping in front of clients or patients. No one seems to mind. I've even had a co-worker or two try it.

You're not doing anything wrong and if anything, you could be in a position to turn someone else onto it, helping them to finally stop smoking. How awesome would that be? Most of all, just be brave. It'll be just fine.

BTW - if you are afraid people will come up to you outside or elsewhere that smoking is allowed - I was afraid of that too but everyone just ignores me. The only time anyone asks about it is if I am someplace crowded where almost nobody smokes and I see a lone smoker away from others smoking somewhere comfortable, I will go join them (just because I am used to hanging with the lepers) and then the smoker will usually ask "is that one of those things?" and I will tell them about it.

And I never vape in places that never allowed smoking - so unlikely they would allow it and I don't like confrontation (though I will stealth vape in their bathroom - like if I am stuck for hours at a bar mitzvah or wedding reception or visiting someone in a hospital or visiting relatives - I use non-tobacco flavors that leave little aroma). If I was in a bar or elsewhere that used to allow smoking, I might ask if I could vape.

i'm already labeled as kind of an "eccentric," i ride a highly modified puch moped, i dress a little odd, so puffing on a chrome rod w/ a blue light on the end in public is fun for me. i throw pizza in an open kitchen so little kids are always watching me. i used to go a block away to smoke so they wouldn't see me. i don't know about vaping tho, it's better than smoking, but that might make little kids more likely to want to try it. i still take a little walk on my break.

but as for regular people, people in bars, and the general public, i'll vape right in your face! and fake burn you with my led!

I have been vaping for 12 months now and honestly never felt embarrased about vaping in public. Why be embarrassed when you are doing it for the better of your health and everything/everyone else around you? In fact, it shouldn't bother anyone since the smell is not offensive in most cases (unless you are vaping some weird flavors). In fact most people are intrigued with it and asks me questions about and how did it help me and where they can get it for a friend or colleague. I am using an eGo with a 1100mah battery so my ecig looks like a cuban cigar!

I am a firm believer in vaping and the success rate it has with people quitting analogs all together. I am proof alone that it helps and funny part of all, I never truly intended on quitting analogs while using these. It was something I wanted to try for fun and not to mention it was freakishly cold last year here in NYC so I didn't want to go outside to have a cig. I just decided one day I didn't need analogs at all and never looked back.

In closing. You may actually be helping more people out by not being a closet vaper and spread the joy of vaping. I have met friends along the way while vaping in the streets, mainly women. ;)

The other day I was waiting for my chinese food in the middle of a take out restaurant! It was packed too! I tried to hold it in to reduce the vapor but it didn't work. Then used the sleeve method and worked like a charm. The place was packed to and no one questioned or even noticed, or at least I think.

I liked dormouse's response about how some of us first try to fit in and then it's like "That red battery with the blue LED ... sweeet!".

I don't hide. I don't see any reason for hiding. Just the contrary: I'm thrilled when someone asks questions about "where the smoke is coming from". I figure, the more people are aware of that e-cigarettes are a very real chance to quit analogs the better and the only way to show that vaping is just as natural as smoking is: Show'em!

I will vape anywhere i want, even in restaurants but wont be blowing big pufs of vapour around just for the fun of it (in the office i'll hapily blow smoke circles and stuf).

A few weeks ago me and my brother in law were in a restaurant and we are both vapers. The waiter walked past, saw the "smoke" , asked "Those arent cigarettes are they" ..with a certain tone, so we both held up our ego's (mine black, my brother's titanium, and hapily announced nope these are e-cig. The waiter nodded smiled, said "I've heard of those, that perfectly fine, enjoy your meal" and walked off.

Not having the thing look like a cig helps, so e-cig makers: no red/orange leds please :)

cheers
Hans

I'm really comfy "smoking" one that looks like a cig. I use a volt but there's also the halo g6 and the bloog maxx fusion which I think are currently the best slim ecigs on the market right now. All three are the exact same, just different branding.

Even smaller is the SD keyring which you can definately hide in your hand.

I have several large PVs I just don't use in public because I'm tired of the flack, stupid comments and being stopped by the police. To each their own.

It's the exact opposite here in the states. The less the model being used looks like the real thing, the more positive reaction one gets. The more it looks like the real thing, the more negative the reaction. And police have better things to do over here.

I walk into stores and restaurants with my PV hanging from my teeth. Act like you are doing something wrong, and the assumption will be that you are. If the establishment asks me to put it up, I will. So far, I mostly get ignored. The few responses have been great opportunities to save another life, and dispel the disinformation that the public has about what we do.

We have nothing to hide. Why act like it?
We have found the "holy grail" of smoking cessation methods. Why not share what we have found?
