I have a FNP-9 from FN Herstal. I really like it as you can see by my avatar. I also have a High Standard .22LR Sport King. This is the original SK100 series. It was my Dad's when he was 14 years old!! (He is now 69 by the way) Hope to get a Kahr CW9 in the future. You know, as soon as I get done stocking up on ejuice and atomizers!! HAHA

Nope...ZERO only missed it by 48mm. Its a M155H, 155mm Howitzer projectile (not a live round FEDS,relax). My dad saw a farmer dragging it behind a harrow for weight and asked him if he knew what it was. The farmer had no idea. Dad asked him if he could have it since he was a gunner in the Korean war and wanted another keepsake. Of course after dad passed away I just had to have it.

No ZERO...unfortunately I was J/K about the one in the back yard... but I suppose salesmenn do wonder, if he has that..what else might he have in there. LOL

I think you will enjoy the Kahr. We have had 2 of them in both the poly and stainless frames in 40 cal. A lot of fun to shoot.

Hello there--

My wife and I are both CCP holders and Life members of the NRA. When I carry, it's a Glock 30 (.45 sub-compact, double stack mag) and for The Wife, it's a hammerless Taurus .38.

My father in law insisted that our boys be Life Members as well. (Good idea) Although it was pretty funny as he was trying to sign up our youngest when asked about his SS#, my father in law replied...
"Well he isn't due for another couple months..."
"Sir, do you mean to tell me you are getting a LM for someone who isn't born yet?"
"Well...."

The lady was very impressed and nice about it. He DID have to wait to be born, though... :)

Any 1911 shooters?
I'm fanatical when it comes to 1911's. My first carry gun was a Glock 27 which I absolutely hated. Then I got a Kahr K9 in nickel. After that I discovered the wonders of the 1911 and my first was a Para 14-45LDA (sorry no pic), then I had a STI Lawman, and now I've got a Dan Wesson Cbob in 10mm. Don't get me wrong, I love my Cbob but the Lawman is the gun I should never have sold. That thing would shoot a hair off a gnats a*s. I was hoping I could get the same accuracy out of the Cbob and get the added fun of full power 10mm. But it's lacking quite a bit compared to the Lawman.

Doh, I guess I've got to get 15 posts before I can post pics. I'll post em up as soon as I can.

Edit, pics added:

I don't know what kind of guns we had out the other day, some shot guns some 22's and not sure what else, I only own a 22. But here's a video of us shooting... well, my friends shooting. There is about 5 seconds in the video where I'm shooting (you'll notice the annotation where I say it's me) one of my friends guns, you can see the kick it gave me. He calls it his "John Wayne" gun, so I'm not sure if it's a 45-70 or not but anyway, here's the vid.

Just outside my comfort zone.
While I am aware that this thread will mostly apply to those of us in the United States, I've always found firearms discussions to be very enlightening, educational and idea inspiring.

DISCLAIMER : THIS THREAD IS NOT HERE IN ORDER TO START A DEBATE OVER GUN CONTROL, GUN VIOLENCE, DRACONIC LAWS, CRIME RATES, SHOOTING SPREES, POLITICS, FIREARMS BANS, ETC

This thread is to discuss firearms and the shooting, thereof.

So, who here owns a firearm? What kind do you own? Do you own more than one? What have you fired? Do you currently possess a concealed carry permit?

I'll start. I own firearms. In the past I have owned several handguns and rifles (9mm to .45 and .22 - .300 win-mag). I currently own an S&W Military and Police series .40 (full size) and a kel tek pocket .32

Here's a pic of the .40

04-07-08_0705.jpg

And here's a pocket .32 (not mine but the same brand / model)

KelTecP32-1.jpg

I have fired MANY different handguns, rifles, assault rifles, sub-machine guns and machine guns.

My next purchase will most likely be a DPMS .308 Assault Rifle

I'm also a Red White and Blue member at Scottsdale Gun Club where I can often be found putting rounds down-range or drooling over their selection of firearms and accessories.

So who's next?
I used to be a DMS dealer and personally had the .308 with bipod, cryo barrel, and flash supressor. They do not have a charging handle. This is a bad thing whether you reload or not. Reloads by the way void your warranty and they sell reloading supplies on their site, sort of like trapping people. Anyway, the .308 has a problem feeding quite often. Without the charging handle, you better hope you are not in a fire fight. I sent it back for repair and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I finally just sold it and bought a Springfield Socom 16. It will feed and fire anything you put through it. You can get higher capacity mags for it. If my life depended on my weapon, there is no way I would use the DPMS.

My hubby helped a friend move recently, and in exchange was given a Mossberg 12 ga. shotgun. Hubby of course promptly gave it to me, given my continuing obsession with firearms.
Anyway, since I've never owned one and don't know anything about them, I'm thinking that the best thing to do would be to take it to someone who does know (gunsmith ?) and have it cleaned & checked. Also, the part you pump (forestock ?) doesn't slide back & forth easily, so it's awkward to use (for me, a woman with less than ideal arm strength).
I intend to learn how to use it properly, but I'm wondering: Is this gun going to be difficult for me to shoot, especially regarding recoil ? Is it going to be especially loud, comparatively speaking ?

When getting a used firearm that you don't know the history on, yes, getting it checked out by a gunsmith would be a good idea. S/He can check for any mechanical problems it has or might develop and let you know what needs to be done to correct it. As far as it being a good 'house gun', any gun will do if YOU will do. Load it up with upland/field loads for practice and defense. The MOST important thing a firearm has to do is hit it's target and be able to do so again if needed until another hit is no longer needed. Short version of that is: A hit is a hit and don't stop until they quit. A good guideline is 1-2 shots to the chest with a large caliber handgun or 2-3 in the area between mustache and eyebrows with a small caliber (.22-.380) handgun. For a shotgun, 1 to the chest should do it but be prepared for a follow up if needed. You don't need buckshot inside the house unless there's a rabid deer in there. People have much thinner hides and regular 7-8 shot works just fine without too much over penetration problems. It might go through a wall but it normally won't go through 4 or 5 sheets of drywall like a centerfire pistol or rifle will.

Get it checked out, then get into a good NRA firearm safety and shooting class so you can gain the skills you'll need to safely use the tools at your disposal.f

Oh, for reference I've been shooting for just about 30 years. Grew up with Marlin .22LR's and Savage 20 gauge. Since then I've owned a lot of former military weapons, I even had a ak74 before they were cool ;). I only own a few firearms now: XD45, Mossberg 12g w/top folding stock, Remington 1100 slick barrel in 12g and the Marlin 336 my dad bought me on my 16th b-day in .35 Rem (the only gun I'll never sell, the rest are just tools). I've owned/sold a Tanfoglio in .380, Colt preban Ar15, Hungarian SA85, Romanian AK74 Factory Sporterized SKS (took AK magazines instead of SKS, HUGE improvement), a half dozen Schmidt-Rubin's including 1889, 89/96, 96/11, K11's, K31's. Straight pull bolt actions are interesting and I liked the accuracy of the 7.5x55 round. Ruger 10/22 (should have never sold it either) in stainless/synthetic stock. Left in my trunk for those times when someone would say those magic words, "You know, I haven't been shooting in a while". I can't even remember how many different people I introduced or re-introduced to shooting with that rifle, and I made a point of NOT cleaning it to boot. I'm sure I'm leaving some out but I feel like I'm writing a book here as it is!

We had a small skeet shoot last weekend and we went through about 1500 rounds, not including the pistol range. I put about 60 rounds or so through a mossberg 12 ga. I wouldn't say it kicked like a mule but my shoulder is still bruised. One round at a time isn't bad but if I shoot doubles the second shot is the one that gets me. They are loud, so if you're going to be shooting a lot ear plugs or hearing protection is a must.

As I have gotten older I find that I like a 16 gauge the best then the 20 then the 12. However, it depends what I'm hunting as well. For an affordable 12 gauge the mossburg is not too bad. However, if you cant rack a round properly you will get jams and that is a pain.

Woman to woman, a shotgun has kick. It will bruise your shoulder. The thing I learned the hard way is that if you're nervous with it, it will hurt you more. Pull it in to your shoulder as tight as you can. If you're nervous and hold it a bit away from your shoulder it will punch you. If you know it will kick and pull it in tight anyway, it will only "shove" you.
We have several guns. Two shotguns, one standard 12 gauge, one with pump action and a pistol grip, three handguns (two .9mm and a .41), and my favorite an SKS. I qualified as a sharpshooter while I was in the service, but I'm not into the technical stuff. I know how to re-load bullets, clean my gun, and hit what I aim at. That's as far as I can hold my interest. I love shooting, but specs get lost on me.
I don't carry concealed, but dh will as soon as the new law here goes into effect. If I ever get a gun I can conceivably conceal, I may carry when we go to bigger cities. My .9mm is way too big though. I'm a very petite woman, and it's an '80s police issue S&W.
