That is well said T-Bob. Ecigs did have some pretty sloppy marketing. I think this is because of the way it became available. You have a bunch of mico-suppliers doing their own thing without centralized financial backing.

*EDIT* ADDENDUM:
This ASH person makes me want to go to his office and light up a pack of Camel non-filters.

Washington DC: LAW PROF SMOKED BY ANGRY CROWD

Pubic interest law professor John Halfbent, self-proclaimed "Father of Potty Partying," fell victim today to his own loquaciousness. Armed with Marlboros, Pell Mells, Winstons, Kools, Benson & Hedges, Virginia Slims, Camels, Newports, and many other leading brands, an angry crowd of former ex-smokers lit up and exposed "Mr. No-no-no-Smoking" to the predictable results of his most recent smear campaign.

Halfbent led a successful campaign to remove Arty-Cigs from the market, resulting in the resumption of tobacco smoking by zillions of Arty-Cig customers. "Let's see how he likes having to breathe this foul stuff," yelled one woman.

The crowd trapped Halfbent in his Lincoln Town Car, jammed one window open a crack and took turns filling up his car with smoke. Halfbent found out first hand just how deadly second hand smoke can be.

this tells me that more than ever, people like this are not fighting a war because they believe in their mission. it is because in some sick, perverted way, they are obsessed (putting Ahab to shame) with controlling NOT tobacco for the general populace's welfare. they do this because they get off controlling BEHAVIOR. they dont like smokers. they dont care about saving lives. they have a jolly great time telling people how to live because they think they know better than you. theyre smarter than you (being an activist is not a job), and feel the need to shape your life.

this, to me, is more offensive than a little second hand smoke.

The man is definitely a trip...or maybe that's a tripper?

Anyhow this is from his "look at me" site: Prof. John F. Banzhaf III of George Washington University Law School and Action on Smoking and Health (ASH)

Banzhaf has also been called — usually by his enemies — a "Legal Terrorist," the "Osama bin Laden of Torts," a "Legal Bomb-Thrower," and a "Legal Flamethrower," and he has frequently been attacked on web sites (which are often inaccurate) [see, e.g., BanzhafWatch.com] by those who opposed his activities — clear indications, he says, that his many targets fear him and his legal actions.

Oh my. What a f***ing do***ebag. Reading the "press release" propaganda and the info on the PayPal letter, homeboy here thinks he's a dutiful warrior when in reality I'd say a c***sucking m***erf***er. Some words that come to mind: arrogant, egomaniacal, misguided, and totally full of himself piece of s**t.

Sorry for the overuse of asterisks.

ASH (Banzhaf) is a total menace.

But, for the record, any promotion or sales of e-...... on the forum are completely prohibited and those found to be doing so will receive an instant, permanent ban.

Perhaps this should be a sticky somewhere or displayed for everyone to see just so there isn't an accidental mention of it.

The evidence now indicates that Banzhaf is trolling this site rather extensively. The group now claims responsibility for this paypal travesty...just as a terrorist group is prone to claim responsibility after the fact.

I submit this change in methodology has more to do with a desire for perceived power by the lobby group rather than real power. Interestingly, Banzhaf did not offer a copy or transcript of his letters that would demonstrate he, and his ilk, have initiated this action. No he is merely claiming after the fact that paypal/facebook, etc was "warned". Warned by who....is not answered, it is alluded to.:sneaky:

I apologize to all for posting the ecialis ad that ASH trolled for. I merely thought it was interesting how the product was becoming more popular but I evidently lacked the foresight to see how ASH would spin this. I will be more circumspect in the future.-Ruth Ann

The pity, to me, is that ASH should be our ally.

If e-cigarettes are demonstrably healthier than tobacco counterparts, as we all believe they are, then ASH should promote e-cig use, not oppose it. But have you ever seen sloppier marketing than that done for e-cigs? Did anyone think to approach influential health organizations, show the e-cig, explain its benefits, ask for cooperation in helping addicted smokers move to a safer alternative?

Apparently not. To our chagrin now.

It doesn't take the FDA to shut down expansion or continuation of e-smoking. All that is needed is to shut down payment and delivery systems. Can't buy, can't take delivery. Go play with your mods. We can see the start of that de facto ban happening right now.

I take this as yet another blow to any hope that e-smoking will stick around.

They tried that with online poker. They though if they could cut off the funding they would cut off the play (if and when the Gov figures out how to tax it then I will quit just to keep those greedy .......s away from my money). see the UIGEA. People are still playing online, because they can go buy pre-paid credit cards and use them. I would suggest that the Vendors get set up to take credit cards and people start paying with prepaid cards. The problem that this really created for online poker was not being able to get money transfered back onto the Prepaid Credit Card like they could an e-wallet, but we don't have that problem here.

Does anyone know of, or have information on, the oh, so humble beginnings of ASH?

Just curious - they bear a striking resemblance (in name, goal, and tactics) to a fringe group I remember reading about as a kid: ASHES (American Society to Harass and Embarass Smokers).... their goal was about the same as ASH's goal is - prohibition, demonization, cultural prejudice...

Unfortunately, this fringe group of my childhood exists only in remembrance, as I can't find anything on the web to prove its existence... but I do know it was spawned in the 70's.

Still, I find humor in the fact that there are e-cig. advertisements in the margins of this very article.

IMHO I think it is too late for a ban on these products and the cat is out of the bag. One way or another this is the future of smoking! It may be that we will have set backs, and a monolithic corporation might well be needed for tax purposes and to regulate nicotine content, but one way or another e-cig.'s are here to stay.

hahaha, those ads are hitting my screen too, sooooo ironic! this article wrote by a freak control person been used to promote e-smoking and not only on the pr-inside.com site, even in the article ash.org is promoting from their home page, there are e-cigarette ads :D PayPal Warned About E-Cigarette Legal Liability | Tobacco Facts. way to go ads by Google!!!

There is no way back, vaping is the future of smoking, they like it or not.

Thanks CJsKee, I needed that because I was shocked when I saw the reference by ASH and the mere thought that I had aided and abetted their endeavor against the e-cig. 8-o  Now I truly understand what the term "troll" means.
