The GG: Brass vs Stainless Steel

Ok,help a confused GG nOOb here.

Full brand new stainless GGs are more expensive than their brass counterparts (brass accents);

Yet,brass seems more desirable.
Of course,I know the contrast brass gives to a GG,its sexy,no argument from me.

So based on that,shouldnt the brass be more expensive,or does the price only reflects the cost of materials+manufacturing?

It is more expensive to manufacture the SS

SS harder on tooling

and SS has to be machined at slower speeds than Brass so each piece takes more machine time.

So:

SS material more expensive
SS harder on tooling
SS machine time higher per piece.

= More expensive SS GG's

It's just a matter of supply and demand. Even though brass is cheaper and easier to manufacture, there's still a higher demand for brass accents than there is supply. Subsequently, people are willing to pay more for the brass.

Which is exactly oposite what we use to see. It wasn't that long ago that people were begging for all SSGGTS

[Few months ago when I bought my Brass telescope it was 40.00 minus the 10% on COV site. Don't forget exchange rates flucuate wildly too. Much cheaper now, but could go back up. You never know.

Yes Stainless is much more expensive to machine and thus the higher price as noted. I have to say though that with all the spare parts thaqt have been available over the last few months, I like to have both.

A nice polished brass accented look on my #008 and all stainless on the workhorse #1376. Great to be able to have it both ways!
